I don't think that sentence was a question.

in what way?  Rather than buying a disc?  I don't think that would be a decider either way, but it's a nice feature.  In Sony's commercial it only showed downloading a piece, like MP or SP and then playing once done - didn't show the same type of "play while downloading" like say Blizzard does.

Maybe you can only be logged into live on one or the other and not simultaneously?  It's impossible to "control" the 360 from the XB1 because HDMI is incapable of transferring actual data, only audio and video.  It would be cool if they were both connected to the same router that you could control your 360 through the XB1 using the XB1 controller and live account.  Then when you press a button on the XB1 controller, the information goes from your controller to the XB1 to the router and then to the 360 where the button press is executed.  I wonder if there would be any lag in this scenario.

just FYI, HDMI can transfer data, but only if the device is CEC compliant.  That's actually how it's going to use the cable box data to create the Xbox TV menus.

Here's a tradeoff question then:

If you could DL the next HALO the day before the game released, but it remained locked until that night would you pay for that convinience rather than going to a store and hanging out for release of that title?

Might that idea make the 24 hour check in a little  more pallettable to ensure that people were not playing that game illegally?

I don't see why they couldn't do that, like Steam/Blizzard.  Considering you need to check in online anyway, they could unlock it.

I would say yes for a lot of people. But I am one of the shmoo's that like getting the little extra stuff for pre orders.

[Sarcasm]

but then you still have the guy on the submarine or the chick in the middle of the serengeti plains that could not use it so it must be bad.

I'd love this. While the midnight lineups were cool to do once, I've completely given up on it. Chances are it will be just like you suggest.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this added perk. No more scratched disks floating around in poorly tested pre-order promotional cases. I.E. Halo 3 LE.

It would also dstribute the First day download traffic a bit, ease it up.

If I could pre-load it, maybe use part of it as a demo until release night then I'd find it acceptable to the idea that a 24 hour check in to make sure I haven't tried to crack the game and play it early would be needed.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/19/rumor-steam-beta-update-file-suggests-game-sharing-is-coming/

"Those who opted into the Steam client beta may see some interesting language alluding to game sharing in the "steamui_english" file of the latest update. It's suggested that Steam users will be able to set a shared game library – when the original owner logs into the game, the game sharer gets a prompt to quit out.

look like Sony might be the odd one out here.

AN article i thought was good on IGN today, talking about why ONE is not like Steam, the differences and why people are so pissed at Microsoft's policies.

Very good article and even states the same reason I mentioned for XBLive Games on Demand being so high priced. All in all, that article gives me hope the XB1 download system will eventually lead to cheaper games similar to Steam. Not immediately though, as long as the majority of people are still into discs.

I read an article last night somewhere that stated Microsoft might not allow games to be played before release date, even if they are purchased early.  Breaking street date will simply mean you paid for it early, but still can't play it yet :P

If I run into that article again I'll link it if someone hasn't already by then

I would assume that would be adjusted for authorized reviewers of the games. Maybe they would authorize a set number of Ms tags to be used to review games or something.

Just a thought that crossed my mind.

I'm not worried if they do not let me play them early even if I buy them before release date. What I'd like is to have it pre-downloaded. Once midnight hits on release day I can hit the start button and play that minute.

yeah that would be an easy way to let reviewers have early games without having to have special systems, or worry about others playing them before street date.  Until then they are a coaster.

You mean like green discs on the 360?

I'd say if they don't want you playing on their ONLINE system until release date, they simply won't turn on the servers until they want to?

It's all piddly crap for the most part, semantics on a lot of it, posturing on some media claims and double talk in places.

Biggest point it simply the check in/single player thing and that's the single most deciding factor for a lot of people. If you don't want the check in/24 hr and it shuts off thing, go PS. It truly is the deciding factor. However, the sharing of the game across 10 peeps is a part of it as well, it's a value vrs risk issue, based solely on your specific situation, no one elses.

The PS vs XB used game thing is BS from the get go. PS saying "we're not stopping you from playing, trading" is completely true and the biggest load of horse crap I've seen in a long time. It's the developers call, period, and 90% of everything out there's cross platform, and you know what,  if the developer says no on M$, it'll be no on PS too. Take it to the bank, it's just a question of how it's implemented.

So...Giant Bomb is reporting that MS may be set to do a 180 on DRM and always online:

http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/microsoft-to-pull-complete-reversal-on-xbox-one-dr/1100-4673/

Quote:
What does this mean?

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

If they get rid of the Family Sharing system they were talking about, I'd rather MS keep the new DRM polices.  That sounded awesome and I could care less about used games.
