Its great that people can play Xbox One deep in a woods or under the ocean now.  However, this change will cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

I'm not going to buy any disc games to avoid the disc switching at least.

Like all of us, you've been following the events as they happened. Microsoft did not falter until Sony made their play. Microsoft even went as far as to tell the Navy that they could just keep playing their 360's... They actually shirked the Navy off!

Since you're at least as sharp as I am, putting 1+1 together shouldn't be hard. It was Sony who suplexed microsoft, we were just pissing in the wind.

Maybe MS/Mattrick read my post on peer pressure/bullying and how it could ruin the Friend and Family game sharing plans? Maybe I caused all of this! Fuck, sorry everybody. ;)

I will completely agree the PR team fubared then entire presentation of things AND the way Sony used that failure to their advantage was a PR Fail Max Level.. I do not think anyone here thinks they went about it correctly.

But to think MS scrapped probably the BEST perks they had for the XB 1 (remote sharing AND remote access) because Sony said Nanner nanner boo boo, we don't have DRM (which they do, it is just having the disc in the console and not a interent based system). So people did what people do and freaked out about an issue that effected mabye 10 percent of their player pop, instead of taking a step back and looking what they would be gettting. Now instead of the minor incovienence of having to check in once every 24 hrs via an internet connection. you get to share your game with a buddy by mailing it to him, but now you can't play it because you don't have the disc to put into the system and now if you wanted to play that game while your buddy has it, you get to sit around and wait for it to be sent back, if it gets sent back, doesn't get lost in the mail or your buddy kids use it to play Naruto VS. Sasuke on the street (Japanese Anime reference level up!!!)

Not yelling at you Cryptic, I am just frustrated that people do not look at the overall big picture.

As Microsoft's DRM scheme was originally announced, this wouldn't have worked anyway so you wouldn't be 'getting' that as a perc.  If you gave the game you purchased to your buddy, the license transfers to him and becomes permanently assigned to him at that point (only 2 activations per game).  When your console checks in, it sees the license is transfered and shuts you down.  I'm not sure if they changed that any from original announcement to todays announcement, but back just before E3 anyway, your scenario wouldn't have been allowed.

It would be allowed if he/she was in my "game share option ". I would not have to send/give them the disc. This option  was announced during E3 and a several articles stating so since then. Yes if I sold the game then they would not have access to it, but as long as I kept it, they could play it. Or I could access my game library remotely from a friends/family members house if I did not bring the game with me.

Don't worry, I really do understand your frustration about MS' reversal. It's a surprise to me too, but more because nothing in MS' stance leading up the E3 gave any illusion they would reverse course, it sooner looked as if MS was buttoning the hatches and got ready for a trenchwar until the fated Sony presentation.

E3 is over, Microsoft turns around. They could have had a glorious homecoming on the E3 if they had changed course before that... basically leave Sony defenseless.

The outcry was worldwide, but when the dollarvote swung to Sony (or the popular vote, whatever, don't pick it apart), that's when the fire reached the armory.

But I think it's already too late to change anything for Microsoft. The damage is done. The opposers are still shrugging and now they alienate the people like you who stuck with them. It's a murky mourass, that's for damn sure.

Honestly the console was just shown off fully a week ago.  There's 5 months until it even launches.

At times like this I'm happy I'm just a retired disabled nobody. Imagine being the guy in charge to repair the company's reputation and having only 5 months to do it in...

I'm sorry, but I would like to have discussion once in a while where a defense is not based on semantics and one-uppance. I'm sure you understand.

The reversal in dumb ass policies gives me something to consdier because i had jumped ship.  But i think at this point, if you didn't pre-order already you're shit out of luck for a launch day console.  Then there's still the fact that for games, the xbox is 5 cores and 5 gigs of DDR3 ram vs 8 cores and 8 gigs of DDR5 ram on the PS4.  Probalby not a big deal for the first year or two but as the devs push these things harder, the PS4 has more resources to play with. Only the ONEs cloud processing can really make up that difference if devs figure out how to use it well.  Of coure that relies on internet connectivity so people offline are shit out of luck.

Still... something to ponder.  I wish they would have come to this decision prior to E3 though so pre-orders would have been viable.  I doubt they are at this point, not that i'm saying i'm switching back, i need to think about it.  Indies still can't self publish on ONE, they didn't fix that issue and I have more faith and enthusiasm for indies at this point than AAA devs just pushing out the same rehased shit year after year that i've become bored with.

again, PS4's OS ain't running on 0 cores and 0GBs of RAM...

I think Microsoft cared more about what thousands of people and pre-order numbers were indicating than what Sony said on stage.

After all, if Sony had said what they did, and Xbox One was devastating in pre-orders and people were all happy about it, they woudln't have changed.

That's why I disagree with your assessment, Cryptic.

That's also why I agree with Lbsutke.

Excellent news!  No 24-hour check in and used games!  115  Still won't purchase day 1 (never do for consoles), but am more willing to buy the xbone a year down the road when Halo 5 launches.  Now if they can get rid of the kinect always being on when you turn your system on.  And I'm still not happy that my $265 headset is pretty much useless for the xbone.  I'm hoping that in the year after launch, m$ reneges on the kinect 2.0 being always on, especially for games that don't utilize it.  And I still see a loophole in the 'don't have to be connected to play anymore':

m$ to developer: Hey, could you make your game utilize our cloud based computing?

developer:  Actually, we don't need to.  The game works wonderfully using the system specs.

m$:  Just have it draw a few extra trees or boxes in a person's FOV.

developer:  Yeah, I guess we can do that.

Go to purchase games and back cover states:  This game takes advantage of m$'s cloud computing for the most realistic looking environments!

Install the game and go to play offline:  Unfortunately, to be able to take full advantage of the cloud computing system, you must be connected to the internet to play this game.

indecision

But we'll see.

So kinda like the difference between minimum system requirements and recommended system requirements on a PC game.

Thanks, maybe i'll go pre-order on amazon.  Doesn't cost anything and I can cancel it and just see how this shit shakes out.

Do you think MS's cloud computing can keep up with it though? Console specs have always been fairly similar, always released around the same time. This is the only time I've seen specs so vastly different.

CrypticCat you did bring up a great point I agree with just a bit ago.

If Microsoft had changed this just before E3 and announced no used game restrictions etc at E3, alongside all those games, it would really have left Sony with barely anything to say.  They'd have to scramble to change a portion of what they said as it would no longer apply.

Anyways, its fun to think about but no going back now.  My name isn't John Titor after all.

I hope this allows more people to play games they wanted to play but wouldn't have been able to with the previous restrictions.  Its always nice to have more opponents to crush under the mighty steel foot of a Titan :P

You bunch of Jack Asses/Arses.

MS just pulled off Machiavellian tactics the likes of which you people would scratch your heads bald trying to figure out. The depth and breadth of their plans were so deep and so wide you could put 10 Valles Marineris in there and still have room for the vacant confusion you think is your rational thought. Let me make this simple for your bland minds. This was MS's plan all along. Bait and switch man, bait and switch.

You people are so STOOPID!    j/k  ;)

Maybe MS did plan this. Maybe.

Plans within plans. If the sales suddenly increase, it won't matter how pissed the masses are. Wait, watch and behold. This is just the being. Soon MS is going to apply some serious salve on our burns and later they'll butter our bread with real butter. Then they'll deploy the final coup de gras.
