Just done a few laps chasing Paps ghost...much mutterng of "how the hell does he carry all that speed through the first corner" 20 laps later I'm none the wiser. Get any number of corners wrong here and it's slippy slideyville. Should be a fun race smiley

I don't brake so much laugh  The real way?  Trail-braking.  The straight after the first corner is short so exit speed is less important as carrying as much speed from the straight into the corner.

Mugello has high crowns in the road so you need to take the corners a little deeper, and don't miss your apexes.  Miss your apexes by even a little bit, or take them too shallow, and the off camber corners will have you sliding right off the track. Be aware of this, and if you do miss your corner you can delay your throttle application until you know you're gonna stick.  It's slower when you have to delay, but it's faster than going into the kitty litter.

I seem to have most the corners down, though you still gain a little in the first half...but that first one if I start to brake where you do whether I trail brake or not it all goes pear shaped LOL I'll have another look tomorrow.

Remember to use the brakes without dropping gears...

I just like to remind people that it's my personal preference to bias the brakes so all four wheels are working equally.  If you add too much additional engine braking it's going to get ugly.  I would simply do a few threshold braking drills without downshifting, and see how quickly you can stop.  I think you'll be surprised.

Ah! see I use engine braking a lot, hang over from real world driving. It is when changing down it tends to go wrong and the back steps out. So that is the first thing I'll investigate tomorrow.

Thanks mate your help is always appreciated smiley

Yeah you don't have to wait until the last moment to downshift, but certainly wait until most of your braking is done.

One of the big points they drill in the racing books is that downshifting is not for braking, your brakes are for braking.  Downshifting is to be in the proper gear to exit the corner.

Believe me you're not the only one who struggles with my brake setup.  Tourni hates it cheeky

The problem, the way I see it, is that the brake bias is so far forward in stock setups that it encourages using engine braking to stop in the shortest distance.  Even the tune calculators out there bias far to the front so they don't do anything to change that behavior.

Even if you don't like my setup, and you prefer to use large amounts of engine brake, it's a good exercise in adapting your driving style to the car.  Obviously not all cars I get to drive have my ideal brake setup so I have to adapt my driving style to those cars, and slam down through the gears.

The cars you'll see the most improvement in braking using my setup are the FWD cars.  That C1 of mine that you drive has pretty strong rear bias to enable all 4 tires to do equal braking.  In the publics I can go MUCH deeper into a corner than the guy beside me with stock bias.  Once he hits the limit of traction he can't get anymore braking using the engine brake because it's applied to the already overloaded front wheels.  Result: understeer, and take a super wide line around the corner allowing me to tuck in on the inside.

Enough rambling.  Just giving you a bit of insight into my thought process on the whole thing.

You ramble away Pap, what your saying makes sense...leastways it does now I am starting to get a handle on this Sim Racing malarkey. It was all part of the original idea I had from the start, to work with a tuner and understand why they do what they do and how to get the best out of a single car. I forsee much cursing tomorrow as I try to sort this out, but another tool in the box when I do smiley Funny because I make it work in that C1 as you know, so maybe I'll do a few laps in that and analyze what I am doing there. I must be using less engine braking when I drive that...out of interest do you hold the clutch in while braking?

Nope.  Any small amount of engine braking I get from simply lifting isn't enough to cause a huge upset in the car.

Well just spent 20 mins practicing for tomorrow. Managed to get a 1.096 clean and a 1.091 dirty. Loaded Tourni's ghost and Paps and tried to get a clean 1.091 but seemed to go backwards!  Think I will give iT another try tomorrow without ABS and see if I can pickup that extra few tenths!

Think tomorrow is going to be a close one, can't wait!

Yeah man up and get that assist off LOL it is actually about the easiest to get rid of and leaves you with more control. I am much faster since I ditched them all...why am I telling you that? D'oh

Tonight is the night and on paper it looks like another close one, Cyber and me are neck and neck, while Church is an unknown quantity and Ant is always dogging my heels whenever he is on track, quietly and persistently.  Please remember pit stops are not obligatory cheeky

Thanks to Church for jazzing up the result sheet as well.

See you later guys smiley

Unless Knight decides that you need a visit....

Might actually get away from work on time tonight so will not be eating my dinner as I race.

See you at 8.30 for the EUSL practice and then at 9 for the Fairlady Cup. Hopefully tonight will see a few more participants!.

No Minis though.

Sorry I wont be doing any more of this series, I know you have put a lot of work into this event Knight, but I cannot see the point of only giving points to the first 3 places, I know where my score will be at end of series = 0, you could have someone finish 4th in every race and be beaten by someone who does one race and gets on the podium, I see no incentive in this what so ever, I know I was never going to win the series, but its good to see how many points you can score and give less skilled people a chance to fight with someone else at the bottom of the league, for pride if nothing else. good luck to the four or five of you who can win this series, the rest I'm affraid your just also rans.

If that is your only issue I can score all the way to last place, the whole idea is race experience in a less serious set up. You could have brought this up at the start instead of now, I was always open to input.  I have done all I can to prepare folk for this and would hate to see you drop out just because of a few numbers. I was just trying to keep thing simple for my very non mathematical mind. Church has rejigged the result sheet to make it easier so it's up to you...

Sorry I did not see your post #90 of this thread stating the new points system, or I may have said something at the time, if my post sounds defeatest I apollogise its just I have had a right royal load of RL shite dumped on me this week and I'm feeling life is just to short for this, I think I need to step away for a while, it was not meant in away as a slur on your organisation of this event, I think you have done a great job and put so much effort into it and you are to be praised. roll on my holiday next week, think I need it.

Yeah I kinda figured there was something...All the information is on the first page, this is the norm and you may well not be aware of that. As series information changes the first post of the series thread is updated to reflect that. Just as an aside I was an also ran this week, did terrible so you never know it was never a sure thing I was always going to score...well except that Church will probebly win LOL. People will drop in and out of this series same as all series, so when your feeling more yourself your welcome to join in again.

Anyhoo despite my poor perfomance I had fun and hardly a bang or knock in either race for anyone so that is great...I have no idea who was on the podium totally forgot to take notes so if someone could post the results that would be...well, useful laugh

Well that was great fun again.

Finally took away my last crutch (abs) after a little ribbing from Knight and, after forgetting that I had switched it off, got the feel for it and now cant understand why I had it turned on!

The racing was not as close as last week but still plenty of opportunity to dice and overtake when mistakes were made, I got as great run on OldSchool coming out of the first corner as he was battling with the old bloke Knight but was concentrating so hard forgot to call I was on his outside and ended up in the wall! Ended up running as hard as I could and on the last corner of the last lap OldSchool made a mistake and I pounced! Just as we crossed the finishing line....

For those that are not signed up for this you really are missing a treat. Close racing, no real pressure and a huge amount of Banter with some of the best tuned cars out there. Shadders, hope that RL issues allow you to come back as I feel that this series and the EUSL have made me a better Forza driver and, whilst not at the level of 'them' am close enough that I can have a dice with the mid field chaps and get my heart rate up! You will be missed.

Right! What is it next week as I have some points to make up!

Any pictures by the way? or a replay as there are a number of bits that are worthy of sharing.

Ok, back to work as I have been up since 5.30 and need some more coffee, in fact can I get that intravenously?

P.

Church has the replays, I don't want to see them crying Told you you wouldn't miss ABS smiley Now you will just get faster, the difference chasing you in the Mini after the Fairlaidy was chalk and cheese. Before I could just cruise past you, after I couldn't. Should make the EUSL this week far more interesting for the Cameros.

I took second in the first heat and maybe 5th in the second, that one I'm not too sure of.

BTW, in case no one could tell, I had a blast!
