Anyone running the Daytona 2.4 this coming weekend?  Cars are GT3 class McLaren and the Riley Prototype.

Sounds like Sheldon and myself will be running the Saturday race.  So I'll be missing the R07 event this coming Saturday.

Not likely over $70 of added content needed...

You "should" only need the track and 1 car.....but still almost $30US.  You download the "updates" for the other cars so you can see them in the race (at least when the system works like it should).

But still a chunk of change for a single race...so understandable.  I happened to have both the car & track from an earlier series (& fiasco), otherwise I may have passed as well.

helios do you know if you can host a multi class/cars in a series or is that only applicable by iracing for there series?

The cost is $10 for a league and $1 for a 2hr session......i would like to do multi to give people an option and draw more, but if i cant it seems kinda pointless to start up another spec series?

That I don't know for certain.  Give Craig or Dale a shout.  They will probably know.

But I would think you can.

Just come second in a race yay.

Although I did lead the race from lap 3 to 24 and got shunted a bit by a back marker and lost first on the last lap.

Funny feeling happy and pissed at the same time lol

This afternoon is the switchover to week 13.  They may not have all the races up and scheduled yet.

Sound advice from Jarhead on how the work on your SR to fasttrack to a higher licence fast.

A little advice for moving up the license classes. I am not an iRacing expert by no means, but I joined on December 28th, 2012 and will have my A license in both Oval and Road categories on January 28th, 2013. Exactly one month after I joined. Now I can concentrate on racing in any series I like and race to win if I am in a position to do so. I am still going to try to keep my SR up, but I won't cry about a small bump here and there.

First of all, to rank up, forget about winning or placing high in the event. Concentrate on running a completely clean race. One of the best ways to do this is to start from the pits. You do this by not hitting the Green Grid button while it is counting down. Wait until after it has reached zero and says "missed start". When you click on it, you will be placed in your pit stall.

If it is a standing start race, you will be allowed to start after a start penalty which will ensure you come out of the pits in last place. If it is a rolling start, you will be held in the pits until after the parade lap(s) and then given a countdown timer to again make sure you come out at the end. Make sure you don't exceed the pit speed when leaving the pits to avoid a black flag.

Once out on the track concentrate only on avoiding all incidents and staying on the track. Stay 2-3 seconds behind the last car. Don't worry, you won't finish last because plenty of idiots will take themselves and others out and you just have to tiptoe through the mess to stay clean. Use your relative position screen to keep track of drivers coming up behind you, especially at the short oval tracks. When they get within one second of you, purposely slow down and give them plenty of room to get by cleanly. Show them no intention of racing.

In the street stocks, you can pick up .08 to .14 SR per race by doing this. You can get up to .20 SR in some of the higher license oval races with more cars on track. For the nVidia cup, you can usually get .13 to .20 SR per race.

Once you get past rookie class, you will have to do your MPR in other races than Street Stocks or nVidia Cup to get promoted. You can still use those races to get SR though. I used the nVidia cup all the way through B class to boost my SR since those races run every hour and there are always plenty of participants. MPR is Minimum Participation Requirement if you don't already know. You can find out what you need by holding your mouse cursor over the MPR symbol next to your helmet in the upper right corner of the screen. I did mostly time trials once I got past D since it was hard to get official races at the times I could race.

I went into an oval practice session and my god it's hard!!

I've never done any proper oval stuff before so I guess I'll just stick to road for now. My SR is up to 2.82 and I've not even joined a race yet!

I've got a week to get above SR 3.00 as I've completed my MPR doing time trials!

3.72 here for road, want to get that to 4 then crack away at the ovals, not sure how into them I am, all this turning left and my first race was a disaster, but I'm going to follow Jarheads advice and see if |I can get that SR up as well before promotion day.

Jarhead's advice is sound, but keep in mind that once you level up, the quality of driving is better in the higher license series.  If I were you, I would not continue to use the street stocks and/or Nvidia Cup to get your SR.  Rather, use the races that require higher licenses.

Content limited at the moment and it's going to take a long time to build it, maybe a track and or car a month. But yes when I get out the Rookie league then time to see whats avaliable to me. Slowly slowly catchee monkey, as they say .

Hello, I didn't know you had so many iRacers over here.  I notice this thread just started last week.

My take on iRacing.  I have only had it about 3 weeks and I am hooked.  For me, it has the best physics, FFB and tracks of any sim I have tried so far.  I also like the way they separate the good clean racers from the dirty racers.

I have spent my first month working mainly on getting my A license in both road and oval categories.  I currently have a B license in both with an SR around 3.50 and MPR completed, so both will be A next week when they do promotions.  Then I can concentrate on the racing.  Knight already posted my tips on getting promoted, so no need to repeat here.

The main reason I wanted to get to A class was not to race in the A class series, but to have every series in the game available to me (except the pro series which I don't ever expect to join).  I also want to have the blue stripes on the back of my car.  For next season I plan to run the Mustang series which is a D class series for road.  I also plan to run the D class National series, C class trucks, and C class IndyCar Fixed cars for Oval series.  I got a chance to run a few races in these series last season and I really liked them.

As for cost, the initial start up costs are a lot, but for me it is worth it for the great physics and laser scanned highly detailed tracks.  I already have a few hundred invested in cars and tracks.  As for the subscription fees, I consider that free.  I paid $89.95 for a 2 year subscription on their year end promotion so that works out to around $45 per year.  For each season, you can get up to $10 credit for participating in the series and there are 4 seasons a year so that is $40.  Plus they give you a $5 credit for each continuous year you have the service so that adds up to $45 per year, subscription paid.  I just have to renew on their black Friday deal so I can keep it going for half price.

Jaysus you swing from one extreme to the other every day, sometimes several times a day. Rome wasn't built in a day, stop trying to win and work on your SR to get out the rookie league, and in to a better class of racers. Then get back to trying to win.

Not because of the racing or anything.

I'm actually really enjoying that, It just the cost, and Cara says no on another "Game" (She really does not understand!)

Although the racing incident last night might have been avoidable if I had my headset set up as I would have been able to tell him to move out of the way indecision

Ah sorry dude that's a fecker...I suppose from Cara's point of view a racing game is a racing game and how many do you need...Never mind see out your three months and maybe you'll win the lottery...Is this a bad time to say I have just been promoted to my D class licence smiley

Good man, I'm getting slower around there not faster...it's this bloddy SR rating, I'm just to nervouse to push...At least that is what I think. Ah well just climb the licence ladder and hope tto settle down by the race.

You will never get over the nervousness entirely, that is part of the beauty of iRacing.  Crashing into folks has consequences.  That being said, you will build up SR such that you can afford to take some chances.  I don't mean going three wide in the first turn, but you might decide to defend your line on an oval even though you have a maniac on your tail.  That sometimes means a 4x because the dude crashes into you, but if your SR is built up, and if you avoid rage quitting, you will be fine.  My SR in both road and oval is up past 4.0, which means I have some buffer during Season 1 when we do tracks that tend to be wreckfests.

ive tried doing the drive slow and safely but seems i start thinking about things too much than i screw up...altho my first win came from the pits lol, but as of late my best races have come when iam battling in the top 5......seems to all fall apart when i start in the middle of the pack :(

My theory seems to be reverse.....just go out and race your race and once you start feeling comfortable with the car push it some more!

My first few races i was having 10-15 incidents, but if iam correct my last 10 have been 1-3 avg besides 1 disasterous race.....sitting in D class with 3.93

i havent payed much attention to the ratings and iam not sure which are which.....is 3.93 my safety rating or class rating?

My biggest nemisis in this game or the damn icy curbs......so affraid of them i let off the gas when iam on them in fear of spinning out

Yeah 3.93 is your SR I'm in D with an SR of 3.48 a drop thanks to a bad race earlier...well good race but not for my SR. Problem is I am not realy a fast driver I suppose, so need to stop chasing times that are out my skill set, just settle where I fit in the midfield and take my sweet time, after all I'm only just a year into sim racing and what? 6 months on PC.

I wish you never told me of that TAB thing though Knight!

I have a bloody bar telling me when I'm not pushing fast enough now indecision

Red = I'm going slow than a previous lap so I "must" push harder.

I will get there though, totally different ball game this iRacing job.

I still need to get a bit of dead zone on the pad though. The cars are extremely extremely twitch, especially under braking.

Keep in mind too Knight, when your class goes up (R to D for example), your SR will drop accordingly.  So your 4.2 in Rookie, will likely drop down to a 3.2 in D class.  So your "horrible race", may really not have been quite so bad.  161
