Ipod Apps and Podcasts

I finally arrived in the 21st century and bought an iPod Touch.  I really don't listen to music so not sure why I bought it.  I saw a few apps that I thought would be good for the boys to practice their math.  I have since found a few others.  My 7 year old loves an app called Pocket Frogs.  My 8 year old loves Let's Golf.  So here is my questions for you all.  What apps do you guys like?  Which ones are must haves and which ones are a waste of time?

Labor Day Tradition

Four day weekend for me. Got me to thinking. My wife who teaches in a different district than me had to work so I got up this morning to go mow her mom's yard. Since her father past away, I took over duties. As I was mowing this morning, I got to thinking about traditions. One of the announcers on ESPN radio was talking about traditions and how people lived life looking through the rearview mirror. His point was we should live life through the windshield and make our own traditions.

Apple Apps Question

Doing a little research.  I don't have an iPhone, iPod, iPad, or iAnything.  Basicall I am iIgnorant.  I am a high school teacher and I am trying to bring some new technology into the classroom for the kids.  I have found an app called Flashcards.  I assume you can put definitions on one side and the word on the other and quiz yourself like many of us did years ago with real flashcards.  My question is this, is this something I can make ahead of time and if the kids want to download it to their iPods, they can or is this something the kids will have to do on their own?  I figure they might

Podcasting In The Classroom

Any podcasters out there?  I am interested in podcasting in the classroom.  I bought a nice microphone a couple of years ago and downloaded a free program called Audacity to mix with.  Works well and we have used it in the classroom with some success.  The problem is turning it into an actual podcast.  What we have done in the past is record it and mix it and I stick it on the schools website and if you know the site, the students can go and click a play button and listen to it.  I want to make an actual podcast that people can subscribe to and download to their mp3 players.  I need to lear

Hardwood vs Laminate

Refinanced the house yesterday.  Interest rates are really low.  Saved 2% on my interest rate. Anyways, decided to take a little extra out while we were doing it to do a few things around the house.  I am looking to put down some new flooring but not sure which way to go.  Do I go with real hardwood or do I go with a laminate of some sort?  Keep in mind two boys and  a labrador will be using this floor.
