Got my first lesson

Mark Kistler sent me the rough draft of the first two chapters of his upcoming book, You Can Learn How-To-Draw in 30 Days! last night.  The lessons are definitely geared toward the adult who is just trying to draw for the first time.  Mark wants me to time how long it takes me to complete each lesson, as his promise to busy adults is that it will only take a 20 minute commitment per day to learn how to draw.  I'll get the first lesson completed and I'll post the results later today.

Busier than work

I'm currently in some seminars with Right Management, the outplacement agency that my (former) company connected me with.  Besides having these classes three days a week, they give us a ton of "home work" to do.  Part of it involves a lengthy self-assessment that takes around 20 hours to complete.  In addition, we have all these outside reading assignments to do.

This is really cutting into my gaming time -- actually, it's cutting into everything -- but I guess if I land a high paying job here in short order it will all be worth it.

I think I start today

I got an email yesterday afternoon from Mark Kistler asking me to call him later this morning to kick off work on his drawing book for adults.  He told me the book needs to be submitted to the publisher by January 2nd.   I told him that his timing couldn't be any more perfect, as my schedule has been freed up a lot lately.

All of the drawings I've posted so far were done in 10-30 minutes.  I'm really looking forward to what I might come up with when I start really investing some time in my drawings.

What led to my lay-off part 2

When we last saw our heroes, it was 2005. The business was doing $140 million in net income and believed by 2008, it would hit $200 million. Along the way, some things started to go wrong.

What led to my lay-off part 1

I'm going to spend a couple of blogs discussing the events that led to my layoff. Maybe it will clue you into some of the "red flags" that I missed.

A bit about what I do (or did)

I've had a number of people ask me, either in comments or via PM, what I did for GE and what led to my layoff.  I think both of these topics are deserving of their own blogs, and while this one won't include a drawing, the next one will.
