Hulk cover finished

Well, here it is. Took a whole hell of a lot longer than I intended. Honestly, I got about 3/4 of the way done and just got really bored with this pic. I forced myself to just finish it up last night and now that it is I am pretty happy with it. There are parts that didn't come out great and parts I hate, but overall a good practice piece for digital painting. I think I now have the confidence to start working on putting together a submission to Marvel for a Cover Artist gig. I have about 6 pieces thumbnailed out and started painting two of 'em already.

Sketchbook quickies

Just a few doodles from my sketchbook that I did in the last couple days. Some messing around with pen and watercolors and a fast sketch using Sharpie markers.  The scans for the watercolor stuff are horrible.

Thor Vs. Hulk WIP 2

Yeah, so, this shoulda been finished by now. Was hard to find time to work on it this week and honestly I got a little bored with it at one point. Needed to just work on something else for a few days. But here's my progress so far: Hulk is close to being done, I'm mostly happy with how he looks. Thor is a half-finished mess right now, somewhat happy with his arm, but not digging the rest, gotta rework it. The background is still very, very rough. It's been an interesting process so far, though I don't think I'd attempt to do any more paintover's of other people's work after this.

Thor V. Hulk W.I.P.

This is a small section of a digital painting I just started.  It started out as just another practice/portfolio piece when I found this kickass line art from Olivier Coipel and Mark Morales online, but as soon as I started it I thought it would be a nice challenge to turn it into a painting with my own feel to it.  I guess I was kinda inspired by the recent Marko Djurdevic paintover of one of Coipel's Thor covers.  Digital painting is something I've really gotten into and would love to get good enough to do freelance illustrations and possible cover work for Marvel and DC, so hopefully thi

Zombies: Final

Took my pencil sketch into Painter X to do digital inks. The first time I've really tried to ink a piece digitally, not too bad, kinda liked it. I then brought the inked version into Photoshop 7 to apply the grayscale colors. Text done in Illustrator. I'm really happy with this piece, though I'm probably not quite finished with it. I'll probably do a proper background for the version that will appear in the comic book. I did kind of incorporate the more gruesome idea I first had, though it's not nearly as graphic as I had originally intended.
