Community Updates, Contests and So Much More

Wow, it has been less than a week since I took on the responsibilities of Community Manager here at 2old2play and so much has happened that I wanted to give everyone an update. I will also post the conclusion to my article on Red 5 Studios and the future of MMOG’s later today. However, let’s catch up on what is going on in the world of 2old2play first.

New Horizons and a Contest

Doodirock, in his infinite (if sometimes confounding) wisdom has seen fit to give the title of Community Manager here at 2oldplay. My main focus in this new position will be to help promote 2old2play to the greater gaming universe outside and to help organize 2old2play events. This will include events such as the upcoming "Grudge Match" South Florida gaming community SFX360 & the 2old2play Community Playdate on Xbox Live (February 2nd), in addition to various fund-raisers, in-house programs and of course our annual Chi-LAN to be held each summer.

Back in Bussiness!

I would like to extend a hearty public "Thank You" to Bricktop for sending me a back-up 360 and getting me back online and ready to rumble. It is the presence of folks like Brick that make this community so very cool. And thanks as well to everyone else who offered up help in my time of need.

Also, there is alot of cool stuff coming down the pike. I will have a fairly majore announcement coming soon that will affect everyone on this site in a positive manner, so stay tuned to this blog for updates soon.

Red 5 Studios - Can Blizzard Expats Bring MMOG's to Consoles and Slay the WOW Dragon?

MMOG's (Massive Multi-player Online Games) have dominated the PC gaming environment in recent years. Led by the mammoth popularity of World of Warcraft (WOW), which boasts a mind-boggling 7 million plus unique players since its debut in 2004, gaming franchises such as Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Guild Wars and LOTR Online have led the computer gaming industry, both in terms of sales and gamer loyalty. However, MMOG's have not faired as well in the realm of gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

Fable II and Canadian Cinema - Ties Between Film and Video Games

While paging through a recent issue of GameInformer magazine (http://www.gameinformer.com/default.htm), I came across a reference to Fable II indicating that the artistic design of the characters in Lionhead Studios' new Opus was based on the world created in the 2001 Canadian Film The Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups) - http://www.brotherhoodofthewolf.com/ .

Irony and the DirtyDiva

When I came home from work today, I found a rather non-descript package on my doorsteop. Being like every other gamer out there, I frequently order various gaming related items online at random and love the thrill of getting a new delivery upon returning home. As my schedule, personal and professional life have been beyond chaotic lately, I was unsure what treasure would be hiding underneath the plain manilla packaging. I had but one option - Rip into it and see what goodies had arrived.
