Agree with a lot of that, though I haven't tried party chat - only heard of the issues.
So far as the chat pad - always had one, never used it. I hated gaming with it, made the pad too bulky. Plus if I wanted to toss on my original mic with the mute/volume on the thumb, you can't use both. It's not absent, they just want people to use the Smart Glass app, which is way better anyway.
Smart glass requires another device to be sitting around though, that's not as convenient as a thumbpad stuck right to your controller. Persoanlly I prefer physical keys anyway not tapping glass when i type. I wonder if ONE supports USB keyboards like 360 did, haven't tried that. Actually i'm not even sure I have any wired USB keyboards around anymore, maybe i can borrow one from work.
Microsoft has decided to shun people with Windows Phone 7.x like lepers. They'd rather offer it to Android and iOS people than to customers they already have.
Maybe it's a good idea Microsoft dealyed Twitch broadcasting. I guess there's a bit of a Porn problem going on with the PS4s now on Twitch

I'll double check, I know there was an option specifically to enable the 'xbox on' in the poweron/startup settings that I have checked. I don't know about the standby mode thing though, will check tonight.
cool. yeah I think it's two different things. One to allow it to work at all with Xbox On, and the other is so it'll be in standby and listen. You'd need both on.
One other observation I forgot to add to the above :
They hyped up all this stuff with Kinect being able to ID you and instantly load your customized settings. Which ok that sounds great, but changing my color theme on the dashboard is hardly what I'd call a worth while use of this technology. Where are the global settings for controller sensitivity and inverted look and shit like that? All abscent at the moment.

Wouldn't that be something the developer adds in as a funtionality since it is game based?
No, the xbox 360 had a universal preferences setting for stuff like that. You could then in the game go in and override the global settings if they weren't quite right for that particular game.
the entire system seems built around using Kinect, and it differentiates the system from PS4. It'd be like selling the Wii U without the tablet.
True but you don't need to have it to use the X1... so like I said never say never. This is business and they want to make money so "super awesome" tech aside, if push comes to shove and that puts them over the competition, they'll do it.
Now this is all speculation, but we all know that when the internet speaks Microsoft likes to listen. So if the demand is high enough and Kinect is no longer mandatory or needed to run the hardware it COULD be possible.
Alright, got to GS yesterday with headphones in hand said "WTF?" Well actually it was more like hey can you help me out, but you get what I was feeling. I asked if they had an Xbox one to test this on. Nope. Do you have anyway to test them to see if they work. Nope. Do you have any headsets. Nope. So home I went. I decided to try a different controller and viola they worked. Ahhhh, I can have a conversation again.......if I could only connect with SOMEONE!!!! I havent tried the original controller, I'll do that tonight.
Tank enlightened me to a new multistep streamlined process that is making the rounds in order to connect via party chat. It involves removing the disc from the tray etc... I'll download the operational manual on this method, study it for hours, test it endlessly and then beta test it and let you guys know how it goes.
It appears there is a certain amount of fumbling, mumbling, tweaking and different gyrations one must do before the Xbox gremlins will allow something to work as it should. I can hardly wait to setup Kinect. Oh joy.
I saw this comment about party chat from a guy I know. Thought it might be helpfull
Quote:
When you first join a party, you are not in party chat. It's like in the 360 where you had the choice of "party chat" or "game chat", but in the X1 you default to "game chat" so every time you accept a party invite, you have to also turn on party chat.
You can do this by opening the party app on the dashboard (you may need to go into my games and apps to find it). Once in there, it will show the party you are in and have an option to turn on party chat.
Others pointed out last night that with kinect, you can also say "xbox snap party" to open the party, so that's a good option if party chat is available.
Thanks Yem, but this isn't anything new. Figured this out first 15 minutes. This is the way its supposed to work but "connecting" is the problem. And since "connecting" is paramount here, if you don't your left with, "does my shit work or not?" and you spend needless time fiddle farting around with connections saying shit like "can you bastards hear me?".
And let me be clear, it worked for me just fine the first day.
Since I neglected to read the starting post of this thread where the auther would like positive input I will add this:
The disc slot is a great addition.
The wireless controllers are great although they take some getting used to. It seems the sensitivity is alot higher in these thus my settings are lower than before.
Lots of new stuff to play with in regards to features.
The problem with Party Chat isn't adjusting to the fact that if you join a party you're not actually in party chat unless you also select 'turn on party chat'. The problem is pressing that 'turn on party chat' results in an error that says something like "Can't join party chat right now, try again later". WTF does that even mean?! IN my own extensive testing of this problem, I still get it even if I plug my ONE directly into my cable modem bypassing my router/firewall altogether. Party chat still doens't fucking work. IT's rediculous.
However, it seems like true cross game chat isn't on X1, at least yet. If you try to join a game while in a party, it pulls your whole party with whether they want to or not, or it switches the party game to that new game.
I've been able to get party chat to work once. Otherwise it's been bitched. As a work-around, my friends have simply changed our privacy settings to only voice-communicate with people on our friends list. I don't want to hear or talk to random XBL jokers anyway.
I was pretty excited about the Xbox On/Xbox Turn Off commands, especially when I figured out how to get Xbox to talk to my receiver and TV. But I could not get Xbox On to work at all and I know I checked every setting and followed all the pre-requisites on the Xbox One support page. It also seemed to confuse my harmony remote because stuff would randomly turn on/off - like commands were getting queued up or something. So I just turned it off and will try it again after patches come through. (Or not since my 2-year old kept saying "xbox on" and his pronunciation isn't too bad and only improving...)
And I think the controllers are more prone to interference. I had my baby monitor on the coffee table and my controller kept dropping. As soon as I moved the monitor and opened the door on my component cabinet, I didn't have a problem.
All and all these are minor complaints and to-be-expected launch hiccups from my perspective....Otherwise, I'm happy with the system. I'm looking forward to a few months out when everything works and some new games that are built from the ground up for Xbox One are released.
Update on the Party Chat, popping out the Battlefield 4 disc so it's not running at all and then turning on part chat seemes to work around problems turning on party chat.
Also on the 'xbox on' thing, the only way you can select to enable xbox on is if you're power mode is set to instant on. So both are set for me, but it still doesn't work.

I have some buddies who have had success with party chat doing something similar

Figured out today that If you start the x1 party and get set up. Then start bf4 you can make it work. Annoying but works
I dont know what works and what doesnt work anymore. No one is willing to try to do party chat anymore in BF4 and I have just settled on broke game chat. I have been able to make xbox turn on,but I have no idea how that woked after 5 days without my system wanting to turn on. Overall, I am happy, and as soon as party chat is fixed I will be set.
I guess if you don't have the disc, you can load a different game that doesn't interfear with chat. That would probalby be the same thing as ejecting the disc to terminate BF4 running in the background.
I paid $60 for BF4, but have largely barely opened it. I played one game, after a couple attempts to connect. I died like 10 times and maybe got 1 kill. I suck at it, but also the game does not work well yet. I don't really want to play until they've worked their issues out.

You don't always have your phone sitting next to you? What is this, 1996? ;)

It's not just porn, people are broadcasting doing the stupidest shit while playing playroom. Twitch supposedly is going to crack down. We shall see.
The comments of people watching hasn't been much better. Lots of "SHO ME YO TITTIES". Sigh.
#5 - TANK have you made sure you set your X1 to quick start/suspend?
Use the system's standby modeP
Your Xbox One will boot up faster and the machine will be able to be turned on with a verbal command.
I'll double check, I know there was an option specifically to enable the 'xbox on' in the poweron/startup settings that I have checked. I don't know about the standby mode thing though, will check tonight.

@Evilclaw setting up Kinect was a breeze, takes one minute.
