problem was the original Kinect wasn't that great, but the new Kinect is - yet is not utilized to its potential. I mean, HD skype that zooms in on who is talking? Instant profile switching by handing over a controller to someone else? Heartbeat monitoring through video? That stuff is amazing.
The Wii sold millions when it was released, and look where they are now. Kinect is Microsoft's Wii, and not just because of the obvious motion gaming gimmick, because of the fact that it was a massive success at first, and then it turned around and flopped. I thought my Kinect for the 360 was great at first, but then it was only useful to pause Netflix after I realized how shitty motion gaming is. You'll never play Halo with anything but a controller, and there never was going to be an alternative. The most interesting game released for Kinect was probably Steel Batallion, but even after tons of time invested in making the game it turned out to be an unplayable turd. The fact that Microsoft decided to reverse their policy on Kinect says they realize they made a big mistake, they want to move forward, and they want to continue to be taken seriously. Now every policy that either Sony kicked them in the balls over at E3, or every qualm gamers had over the Xbone are gone and Microsoft can truly compete with Sony to see which console really is preferred. If anyone is a victim here, its game companies like Harmonix who had Kinect dependant games in the works, but hopefully they can get their title in stores while everyone still has their Kinect units.
Easily Increase Games Capacity with External Storage Support
It couldn’t be easier to increase your storage capacity of games and apps with the external storage support features we’re bringing in June. Your Xbox One system will soon support up to two external hard drives at once. Simply plug in your 256 GB or larger USB 3.0 external hard drive and once formatted, copy and move games, apps and game add-ons to increase your storage capacity at home.
This is also a great way to take your content to a friend’s house and get straight into a game directly from an external drive. You’ll need to sign in to Xbox Live if you’ve purchased your content digitally or insert a disc to verify your game ownership when you take your content on the road. The great benefit here is there’s no need to wait to re-download your game and all the DLC. With external storage support in June, you can also choose to copy full games and all of the associated content in one easy step.
I never owned a Kinect 1, but I don't think there's any debate that Dance Central was the best Kinect game by far. Kinect is a peripheral, not a system. You can compare to the Wiimote, but not the Wii. You could still play regular games with the Wii, without motion.
Has anyone seen if MS has confirmed if you can use a HDD docking station and HD for the external storage option. I assume you could, but I know what happens when I assume things.
This is what I mean by an HDD docking station:
Yeah I know I can get a 3tb ext HD for like 90 bucks, but I like adding the extra usb ports to help power my headphones and Astro Mix amp.
So everthing appears to be working fine. I have a WD 2tb 7200rpm drive in the docking station and hooked it all up last night. Formating was super quick (primarily due to it being a brand new drive) and I was able to assign a name to the drive, transfer a saved game from the xb1 drive to the ext and I was able to hook up my headphones and astro mix amp to the usb ports on the external.
I actually looked for this 2 days ago and couldnt find shit. I'm digital only and it scares me how fast this is filling up. I just can't believe MS would not think this through.
It's sort of confirmed on NeoGaf that USB 3.0 drives also improve tame loading times.
Doodirock, I don't think MS could have provided enough data storage to serve everyone. The add-on option is probably the best option for individual requirements and budgets.

I agree. I wasnt saying that there should have been more on the unit. Just that options to connect outside storage. It looks like you can so im a happy camper.
The only time my Kinect ever got used on the 360 was when I first got it to play a few games, after that it was just for my daughter. On the Xbone, I just use it for voice commands.
Turned on the X1 yesterday after nearly 2 weeks of neglect. The first thing it said was that it needed to begin a nearly 2Gb download or it wouldn't connect to XBL. OK, so I let it do it...
Interesting that included in the link you posted about the update it said:
"Bandwidth Usage Display: Bandwidth Usage will show users how much bandwidth their Xbox One is consuming over a period of time, a useful tool for those who want to track against bandwidth caps set by ISPs in certain markets."
Seems the X1 doesn't actually turn off when you power it down, and continues to access the network. I see it on our data plan. It also appears to be a bandwidth hog while you're playing a game (i.e. Destiny's Beta). Our data plan's bandwidth cap could get interesting.

Is your XB1 set to be completely off? I.E. No auto updating?
After that, updates are done through Settings/System/Updates.
Was going to suggest that. Set Power option to Energy Saver which should completely shut down the XBONE. You will have to use the controller to fire it up and it will do a complete boot from the green screen.
Data caps suck. We have to watch our usage too. Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Twitch, updates (cpu, xbone, phones, etc), it all adds up. We can average around 8.0-8.25gb per day depending on the month. Anything more than that average and we'll go over our ISP's limit.
So, I have had my XBONE w/Kinect for a few weeks, but have just started using it recently. I have to say, I am sold.
NFL app is awesome. All news snips for just my team taken from the NFL network and put in one single playlist I can access at any time? Awesome.
Smartglass - just started messing with it, but so much better than the default channel guide. Keyboard for typing messages on XBL? Sending friend messages? All cool.
I am just getting used to the voice commands, but being able to mute or watch tv or game or skype or search without having to fumble for a remote? Im loving it. I can hide all remotes from my 2 year old now.
My only issue so far is that it has stopped responding to "XBOX turn On." Turn off and all other voice commands work, but that one doesnt anymore. Any ideas?
Id love to hear tips and other cool stuff that people have found.

only game I ever liked on the Kinect was Fruit Ninja, and that's a drinking game...

yeah. So if you have slow internet you still only need to download a game once, and then you can use it anywhere.

Just wanted to update in case anyone was curious.

USB 3.0 docking stations are confirmed working, by some over at AVS that are in the preview program. (Think SSD's, and their higher transfer rates...)
Also small-ish USB RAID arrays are purported to work.
This is very good news. Thanks G-40!
What about this post here though?

Can I use a flash drive or an external hard drive?
No. The Xbox One does not support external storage devices.
Never mind, I just read this

I was reading the above few posts with confusion, since they announced the external storage mid May.

nice, thanks LB
