The new Star Wars was pretty decent.  I'm glad I went to see it.  I pretty much had be be drug to it as I had zero interest in watching after the first prequals.  Absolutely hated Episode 1, and fell asleep halfway through Episode 2.  I never saw Episode 3 because of the 2 prior.

Hey everybody

Sherb I fell asleep during 2 too. Still haven't seen the new one.

Still never watched GoT. Gave up on TWD. Upset that this is Banshee's last season.

The weather is hot and dry all day every day.

My birdbath, which I used to love, has now become a pool of horrors. This giant fucking crow keeps killing things, dunking them in the birdbath, then shredding them right there in front of my kitchen window. Occasionally it leaves half a dead bird or frog in the bath. It also leaves toast, tortillas, ketchup packets, and little containers of coleslaw.

Going to a cardiologist for the first time next week. I'm trying not to freak out, and I'm telling myself it's NOT scleroderma or lupus related heart issues.

Scleroderma sounds quite nasty, from reading up on it.

It is. I've been fighting it for 20 years now. The last few years they've added a new diagnosis every year. Lupus was the last big one-but it was (and hopefully still is) just discoid lupus. My mom has had the systemic lupus since 1986.

Looks like I will be having hip replacement surgery.  Right hip joint is bone on bone.  Surgeon left it up to me when to schedule.  Hopefully cortisone injection today will get me thru the summer.

Oh, wait...Outpatient eye procedure in 2 weeks called an "SLT" (too long to spell it out) to hopefully reduce pressure in my right eye and avoid full on surgery.

Not exactly skipping down the sidewalk these days.

Hopefully the cortisone shot helps you man ..did the doctor say the outpatient SLT will solve the pressure problem?

Yeah, been kinda busy and hampered by the death of my laptop that had all my passwords on. The new studio has been my main focus and getting back to music making and of course as Chris alluded to, the new ride. Joined the three wheeled fraternity as herself despite being my pillion for many years has lost all faith in the safety of two wheels, not helped by the loss of friends and the amount of local deaths...So this was a compromise. It is fun though and it is good to be back in the wind after a long layoff.

Damn Achy, you just be falling apart!  surprise

In all seriousness, I hope the upcoming "work" goes well and can provide you more comfort afterwards than what you've been dealing with lately.

Cortisone shot appears to be helping for now.  I hope it gets me thru the summer, but surgery is not an if but a when.

The SLT procedure should help bring down the pressure in my right eye, knock on wood.  If not then it is major surgery.  This procedure is scheduled for 6/16.

Don't overdo it. Steroid shots can make you feel better than you are sometimes and lead to further injuries. Be safe.

Thanx.  I did check with the surgeon about injury and he said I couldn't cause anymore damage, it was more of how much pain I could manage.  The shot is giving me some more flexibility to pivot in the hip (golf), but there is some pain still there.  I am thinking now that surgery will be sooner than later.  Talked with the surgeon's PA yesterday about scheduling.  Looks like they are scheduling one month out.  As soon as I feel discomfort levels rise again I will schedule and back off most activities.

Planning this out will be a bit of a challenge.  I live alone, have no family in the area, and cannot rely on my golfing buddies.  I won't be able to drive for a couple of weeks -- Uber (registered today) will take of rides back and forth to physical therapy and the doctor.  Peapod is a food delivery service for Giant so that takes care of food.  Right now it looks the ride home from the hospital (and getting prescriptions filled) is the only issue that needs to be resolved.  I may use a Home Health Care agency for that.

P.S. It's a bitch getting old.

Hey Achy ask your doctor if you qualify for rides through your insurance this way it's a little easier on your pocket . I think you should definitely use Home Health care you really are gonna need it . My dad had his hip replaced he got hurt on the job and my mom still had a home health aide come in made it a lot easier for everyone . You can call your insurance company and see how many days you're allowed for the aide service .Ask the doctor if there's a service that can deliver your prescriptions

A current murder trial in Canada. Apparently, the games you play cannot be used against you. Good to hear.

Quote:
Goodman (judge) tells the jury that Dungey (lawyer) kept calling Halo "killing games." "You are not to draw any adverse inference ... in respect to the nature of these games."

It's probably not meant to be 'the' replacement for XB1.

Pretty sure it is a console. Also expect it to be $$$. I expect casual gamers will still find XB1 S quite viable.

Fresh Lobster for supper. Yum.

Bought them off a local truck. When the bin was opened for perusal, it was like a pit of alien hell, they were so lively. Anxious to be boiled I suppose.  devil

Just bagged up a 40 year old wet suit for the garbage. The stuff you keep is crazy.

More of the same in the next garbage cycle.

Tried on one of my diving gloves. Shit, I must have been strong back then!

Still have my 40+ year old full 3mm wetsuit used for cold water surfing (along with a "shorty" and a vest).  Amazed that it still fits.  Jury is out on whether I will ever use it again.  Maybe after hip surgery next month...

The past few weeks have been downright crazy for me. Here is truly the "short" version:

Almost 3 weeks ago, my dad had a heart attack and then open heart surgery. This was his second open procedure - the first was back in 2009 for a aortic dissection.

Next, a week ago, I fell off a ladder and broke a bone in my foot. Now I have a hard cast, but go back next week in hopes I've healed enough for a walking cast. Of course, it's my driving foot, so I have to rely on others to get around. I'll probably start driving with my left foot once they put me in a walking cast.

This past weekend, a storm came through our area. The result? A huge oak tree fell and crushed BOTH of my parent's cars. Tree didn't touch the house and nobody was hurt, but their cars are totaled. Now my dad can't drive, nor does he have the energy, and my mom doesn't really know enough to do any car shopping. At least they have a rental to get by until some decisions can be made.

Then, on Father's day, my dad had to go back into the hospital for very low BP and dehydration due to some new meds and him not drinking enough water. Stayed about 24 hours and they tweaked his meds and gave him better instructions about staying hydrated. He seems to doing much better.

Also on Father's Day, we went to visit my wife's dad and when leaving, her car battery is dead. When we tried to pull his car around to jump it off - yep - his car is dead too! We finally got the issue resolved, but it was stressful.

I'm ready for something good to happen. Yes, all of the above instances could have been a LOT worse, but it still wears you down.

Achy, good luck with your health woes and the pending procedures! Joint replacement surgery ain't no joke, but if the doctor does a good job and recovery/rehab go well, your quality of life should greatly improve.

My Mom was moved to a nursing home early this week. All went well until yesterday. Dad was visiting her then decided to make an unscheduled walk home. He walked in the wrong direction until he got exhausted then fell in a ditch and hit his head. Thankfully a good Samaritan helped him out and called my brother.
