We're some of the new games listed at limits of 32 and 64 players in a multiplayer setting? If yes, then maybe the party sizes will grow with that. My guess is yes.

As for the random dropping, we know that MS is touting the Cloud based dedicated servers. That could easily mean that fewer people would be dropped but I don't think even MS could reliably answer that.

Definately maybe........

I'm looking for details but most of the time I have to watch a video.

Home page article on EA games lists BF 4 at 64. Not an answer, just an indicator of likelihood.

It will be 64 people in a match, but as far as a specific party (that joins a match), I am not sure. Currently BF3 only lets you do 4 (squad) in a party. I did read BF4 is uping a squad to 5, but that article did not mention how many people or squads you could have all in one party.

Nothing announced on party size, but I doubt Microsoft would say they didn't improve or worsened chat connections :P

So first part is - nothing official yet

Second part is - we won't know until actual customers have the console.

A possible scenerio for not launching in Japan and other countries is to concentrate the projected available stock at the time of launch to the most popular Xbox regions and avoiding a PR backlash of "Why are you sending boxes to Japan, Poland, and Korea when they are just going to sit on the selves and could have be sold in the US/etc."

Xbox has tried to do everthing to get a foothold in all markets for over 8 years and I think they know by now which markets want them or not. It makes zero sense to waste limited stock at launch in markets that do not want you.

Does the same hold true for Sony's Playstation 4, and it not launching in Japan right away?

Updated list of differences, though the PS4 does not have analog output so I'm not sure why that's still on there.  The Aux will be for the Eye.

http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/162/f/e/8th_gen_console_compariso...

Basically, benefits of both systems:

PS4 = borrow disc games, sell them on ebay/craigslist.  No online check, if that bothers you.  Exclusive franchises.  Internally upgradeable HD.  Cheaper starting price of $399.  Slightly better hardware, but not enough to make games drastically different for cross-plat.  game streaming from PS4 to Vita.  Motion controller with speaker.  Region free.

Xbox One = borrow digital/disc games through "10 friends", anywhere anytime (except when the owner is playing that game).  Exclusive franchises.  Includes Kinect for motion, voice, video chat.  Can plug in any USB 3.0 hard drive.  Can use to watch TV through HDMI input swapping.  Instant game pause/resume/swap for any program (since all disc games are fully installed).  Cloud computing for additional processing power.  Impulse triggers

The exclusives seem to be tipped in Xbox One's favor on that infographic.  Of course both companies have more games in the works, but for now... more games you can't get on PS4 than there are games you can't get on Xbox One.  Considering I use a console for games...

I like that I can use any USB hard drive if I want with Xbox One.  There aren't any details on if the hard drive upgrading in PS4 is any, or propriatery is there?

I also like that I don't have to buy a Vita for a second screen experience on first party games.  I use things I own already.  It saves money, and I do use smartglass features already today so it actually applies to me.

Same as the PS3, any 2.5" laptop HD will do.  Not sure if there are max size or speed limitations.  I think the max on the PS3 might have been 750 Gig or 1 TB.

not quite "any" in the PS3 - has to be a certain height max.  Found that out the hard way.  Some drives are 9.5mm and some are more like 10.5mm.

my momentus hybrid worked fine on my PS3. Very rare will you find a 10.5mm SSD or Hybrid, or SATA.
I'm sure I'll have a while before needing a new drive in my PS4, but when I do, I'll go w/ SSD or at least Hybrid.

tried a couple year old 1TB drive and it didn't fit in my PS3 phat.  Had to use a 500GB I had on hand instead.

For sure it's rare, but just saying it's not necessarily "all."

I doubt SSD vs. HDD is going to make much difference.  Most of the game will be running from the RAM anyway.

Ah, that's not terrible then.  More hassle than Xbox One storage, but still not bad.

That is a great question. (Autarch question to me..sorry did not quote)

I am also in the camp that find it almost impossible that the ps4 will not launch in Japan at the same time (even though Sony has said that, they back track or change their stance on a ton of statements all the time). I could see them do a launch shortly after a US launch (like a month max).

But I could surmise that they want to have as much stock as possilble availble at launch in those countries where they are the number 2 of console sales. They will want to grab as much market share as possible to create and cary momentum for them in the months that follow. Nothing helps sales better then press releases saying a company is selling out constantnly of product, creating more desire for something that is perceived as the must have item. Even though it maybe be lacking in options or performace compared to other products.

Just a theory.

Another possible reason is the figure they have Japan's console market cornered, focus on the "battleground" markets at launch with their not unlimited supply.

I see what you're saying, and it makes sense Lbsutke

Nintendo says, If devs are worried about used game sales they should make better games.

Yeah that's why Nintendo is is last place, they can't make good games, they're stuck in the gaming niche that got them a name for decades now. How many third party games have become blockbuster hits on a Nin system in 3 decades compared to Sony and M$?

Nintendo has the lowest occurance of games being resold and are very good at what they do. Why is concentrating on games that are simply fun and don't take themselves so seriously a bad thing? Personally I think Nintendo is doing exactly what Nintendo has always done and I hope they never change.

One of the biggest buzzes coming out of E3 this year was for the new Super Smash Bros and I am definitely going to snag a Wii U when the price goes down to play some of these titles with the family. We also enjoy the "failed" Wii on a regular basis.

Edit* Just read another great article on Used games and DRM.

lol.  BAM!

I think the One's challenge system will extend the life of game so people keep them longer, but it's not going to stop some people from selling to Gamestop.

I see your point Azure, but how many versions of Smash Bros. or Super Mario/Donkey Kong/ Yoshi/ Pokemon are we going to get? the only thing that changes is the genre it's created in, you've got platform and racers for the most part. Nintendo does not have a high turnaround in game sales because in part they do make good games, but they also don't support 3rd party devs. to make games for their console.

The franchises you named could be remade forever and it's fans will keep buying them. I'm sad to say that my family is included in that assesment. We buy anything Mario,Sonic or Donkey Kong. Not proud of it lol, just being honest.

I agree that they aren't in the same league with PS4 and Xbone, but were they really expecting to be? They did announce 14 3rd party games at E3 and some like Scribblenauts will work great on their system.

I think the discussion isn't really about Nintendo though and should instead be about the publishers trying to make the consumers out to be the bad guys. The industry as a whole is becoming inflated and messy, reminisent of Hollywood and the music industry. I think the last article from Destructoid said it best. If the games are becoming too expensive to make, don't blame the consumers.

It's not our fault games have gotten so expensive, and I resent the implication that it is. The fact this industry seems utterly fucking incapable of taking some damn responsibility for itself continues to disgust me, and I refuse to shoulder the blame for companies that cannot demonstrate one iota of self-reflection. If something you're doing is not working, change what you're doing! Stop trying to bend and break the world around you to try and manufacture an environment where your failed tactics could achieve some perverse form of success.

Good article.

"If so-called "AAA" games and the used market actually are incompatible, then I say that's a good friggin' thing. Anything to dispossesses publishers of the notion that they need to keep dumping truckloads of cash into games to the point where they need to sell more copies than the laws of reality allow. Despite what demagogues and mouthpieces will tell you, the market is not demanding all its games be so expensive to produce. As I've said before, the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and Wii would not have dominated their respective generations if the market put graphics over everything else. People want good games, not these overproduced, pompous, unsustainable exercises in wanton overspending. "

But I think I'm the opposite of his final point. I say cut the costs of games, and also cut the price - by taking used games out of the equation. Why is buying a $55 used game from gamestop better than buying a $30 copy of a game you can't sell? You'd get $30 for a $60 game the next day anyway. Why not make it $30 from the start, and then just keep it forever?

If Mario still sells amazingly after so many years, why would they decide to not make more Mario games?  I mean... seriously?

What is "uh..." about what I wrote?

I think Nintendo has a money making franchise in Mario and should make more games around Mario because it is successful.
