Sony is getting my money - hands down the system more inline with how me and my family like to game and use our gaming system.  I'm not super excited for it though - PC gaming is still the real place to be :) the PS4 will just be a little distraction from that from time to time.

Sony's got that steampunk game left as an exclusive they announced yesterday at least.  Any others from yesterday?

I know they have more in total, but not good to see the list shrinking and especially with key franchises and titles.

To me exclusives are a determining factor when buying a gaming console - because they mark which games I can only play on a certain console.  If I were buying a console to only play multiplatform games from a used game bin, then maybe I'd consider a PS4.  However, I am interested in many exclusive titles on Xbox One, and saving a few bucks at launch on a PS4 won't let me play those.

Watching the gametrailers stream...rumored idea that since the xbox one requires internet that MS may try to work out a deal with broadband compnies to get buyers a subsidy plan....not sure how feasible that is, but interesting concept none the less.

^^ wouldn't removing the fee for live or reducing the fee for live be a heck of a lot easier.....that seems pretty far fetched.

Good, let the publishers determine their own DRM.

This let's US (the game players, consumers, fans, etc) Determine what games we buy...

We can choose whether we want to play with a season pass or not...

DRM Publisher: "You can't share this game!"
Consumer (me):  "You can't have my money!"

very simple.

Its Sony altering their tune - they said no DRM to more applause than their game announcements at the E3 stage, then later quietly reveal that third parties can do it.

If I didn't care what games were on a system (exclusives) but just cared that it has games, is relatively inexpensive, and doesn't need internet, I'd be buying a graphing calculator.

Update: Sony responded to our query, reiterating that all disc-based games will be able to be traded and resold at the owner's discretion, regardless of whether it's first or third party.

"Similar to PS3, we will not dictate the online used game strategy (the ability to play used games online) of its publishing partners," a Sony representative told Polygon. "As announced last night, PS4 will not have any gating restrictions for used disc-based games. When a gamer buys a PS4 disc they have right to use that copy of the game, so they can trade-in the game at retail, sell it to another person, lend it to a friend, or keep it forever."

The Sony representative also confirmed that the Online Pass program used in some Sony first-party games on PS3 would not be used at all for its titles on PS4.

Is it bad if I make the console decision solely based off the controller?  I just really like XBox's controller.  I'm not too bent about always on as my current box is always online.  The only reason I have it is to play MP with guys on the site.

Its a good point Lala.

Also, for those of you who are going to buy a PS4 and do NOT live in the USA - if you want to avoid being screwed by exchange rates and such, buy it through Amazon.  Since its region free, this can be a way to save money.

This is not the case at all.

I'm in Canada, Best Buy's Canadian Price is $399.99

all in with regional taxes, I'm paying ~ $465

*that may incl. expedited delivery, I can't recall

Amazon.com will likely not ship PS3, or XBOne to Canada, as is the usual deal with certain electronics.

Amazon.ca exists for this reason... and they're slow, and last I checked they had 15 employees (this may have since increased)

Right now, Best Buy or Game Stop are the way to go.

Warehouse date for Best Buy is 12/31/2013

Sony said they would not impose restrictions of de-valuing the users PS4 purchases....which is exaclty the opposite of what MS said and why the applause ensued.   Sony didn't say they were going to stop companies from using online passes etc. which is what companies already do.

@Lala I think that's totally valid.  I know PS owners that have tried to find a 360 like controller for the PS3 and have fallen short in finding one that they like as much.  One of the main reasons I PC game is because I still think the K+M is vastly superior to controller based gaming (for me anyway).  I think if you can play what you like playing with the friends that you want to play with then you win! :)

I know K+M is supposedly superior when it comes to shooters and such on pc, but I have to say even on pc I love it when I can use my wireless xbox controller still.  My work day is me draped over my K+M all day and for comfort level and the ability to kick back and relax..the controller is able to give me that.

Does it seem to you guys that both the Xbone and the PS4 are seeing the value in a "Steam" like marketplace? I know there was little mention of it, but MS has stated that any game would be available for DL on release date. If that's the case, then the only thing to be proven is if the games listed go on sale as quickly as Steam does. I stopped going into GameStop long ago when I signed up for Gamefly or I buy from Amazon or BB day one.

Sony said they will have digital available for their physical games, but not sure if that was on release date.  Also, not sure if that requires their cloud service, which isn't going to be available until some undetermined time next year.

Now, the real burning question about digital games is will there be official (Microsoft or Sony run) trade ins or rentals?  Such as, not a demo, but included with a PS+ or Gold subscription is the ability to "rent" a game as long as you want, one at a time?  Just for example.  Will they let people trade in a digital game to get stored value or to immediately purchase a different title?

Who knows, but I'd enjoy that.

I would settle for maybe like a 5 day rental with option to buy...like hey pay $5 for a 5 day rental..like it...add on the remainder and its yours.

Sony has same-day digital titles now for the PS3 and Vita.

I don't know how many titles they have had as same-day releases, but Assassin's Creed 3, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, and Resident Evil 6 were definitely release day digital downloads.  I know there have been a lot more recently, I just don't pay attention to them.  --  I usually buy my stuff on disc.  PS+ has me filling up my HD with the free titles so any chance I can offload some storage with a disc is welcomed.

Not sure about the renting bit, but currently with PS+ there are a lot of "timed demos".  This gives you sixy minutes of the full game to try it out, not just a demo.

Anything they do with the PS4 and PS+ is a mystery at this point.

This is main reason I purchased a 750GB Hybrid Drive for my PS3 at the tail end of last year. I had the 120GB HDD, and filled it up w/ all of the free stuff, and couldn't continue...

I've already installed ~160gb of games (free and otherwise) onto this new drive. That is on top of the, already present, game saves and other data I had. Not to mention the additional Vita games I'm storing there as a backup, since I have only a 16GB card for that, which is likely around the 20gb mark.  I can't be bothered to buy a 32GB card when they're still @ $99.  This is the only real complaint about the Vita I have... Stupid proprietary media cards that cost an arm & leg.

But I digress...
Sony has (and has had) it's faults, but the way things look right now... they are going to make a bloody killing on this new platform, and existing (ps3, vita) for years to come. In my eyes, Sony is being very realistic with their intentions. Microsoft on the other hand... I'm not so sure right now.

I would think that would be an option they'd like to explore but I'm sure Gamefly might be a bit upset with that. But a limited rental service would be well received I think.

You can purchase and download many games (full versions) already on the PS3 through the standard PSN service (ie: not PSN+).  I would be surprised if the "cloud" has to be in place before you can purchase digital versions.

edit: mdl beat me to it!  154

Yeah, Nintendo for not even being at E3 showed many exclusives, didn't have crazy drm stuff, and didn't do politics style mud slinging.  Winner?

I don't consider games mine and haven't for years.  After all, if it were mine and I really did own it, why couldn't I copy it and sell it to my friends?  I can do that just fine with a terrible song I myself create, or a terrible game I write.  If I truly own a game, why is this not allowed?

This stuff isn't new at all.

You own the physical media that the game resides, and you own the device that plays the game.
You don't own the "game", the game IP or the right to sell it and make a profit from that sale (Wholly) on your own.

You could easily sell the original media, but you can't (legally) create multiple copies and make money off of that, and you shouldn't be able to.

As far as Microsoft being unrealistic I'd like to mention the price as a great example of that.

If they are targetting media focused sales from people who don't want to buy games but would use it for the TV, entertainment, Skype etc stuff, how does a $500 price encourage that at all?

They seemed to cripple their ability to capture the new market they wanted to gain with that price.

When you consider that the XBone isn't actually a Set Top Box, it's a passthru device for those, you really have to wonder where the value add is (to the non-gamer market)?

One less remote to deal w/?
Buy a Logitech Harmony remote...

Well, no remote required is nice, but not worth 500 dollars I'd say.  Exclusive TV shows sounds cool, until you realize that non-gamers wouldn't care as much for those to be literally about games (Halo, Quantum Break).  Skype is neat, but again not worth buying a whole console over.  Just as you say twitchy - where is the value?

I guess still no clarification on third party online passes, but at least those games can be resold or traded in for sure.  Sony still has a bit more to detail it seems.
