Great point to make.  This new site would be light years away from the old site in terms of ideals.  I don't feel the need to get into the hows and whys of V2 and V3 becasuse frankly its been beeten to death, but it should be understood that V4 is a completely different animal in terms of direction.  We would be focusing almost no time into clans and far more into the individual.

However don't get caught up on those that have already left.  As I said in the beginning:

They have made the choice to take a convo else where and I see no reason to try and convince them other wise.  In fact, the changes to the site really wont be for the old school people at 2o2p.

It adds nothing to the conversasion to pick up the sword against others and things have actually been quite civil so far.

For sure.  I think gamificaiton is a great step to take.  The only thing I would say is that bonus features would come probably later on once we get a solid foundation as to what 2o2p really is.

The bucket of forum users will always have holes in it. People will leave for whatever reasons. We just need to keep refilling the bucket with new members.

Shut your mouth and stop making sense.

Doodi, the changes sound like a real positive step forward. I'm really liking the new proposed direction Make it happen! Also, seek out help from the community. We have a lot of smart fuckers here that would love to assist.

I stopped reading here to just congratulate stungun on hitting the nail on the head.  Loves me a good metaphor and this one stopped me in my tracks.

This site came from somewhere else.  I have fond memories of our parent site but our community moved on.  I think any good community will eventually emancipate itself from whence it came and develop it's own tools to grow into its' ideal shape.  If 2o2p went on in perpetuity bringing older gamers together to form strong bonds and and then have those strongly bonded members move out into the world to develop their own sites and online homes it would be a pretty fitting tribute to the spirit of the group of guys I came here with in the first place.

If the aforementioned strongly bonded ship jumpers would for five fucking seconds remember what brought them together in the first place and showed a goddamn lick of gratitude instead of continually popping up to piss in the cheerios and whine about how bad it was for them it would be nice, but-  That would not be in keeping with the spirit of the original group I came here with.

We pissed and moaned like pouty ten year olds and aired our dirty laundry on every third party site that would let us.  As we grew as a site and some clans assimilated more successfully than others we played favorites and lashed out at those we deemed inferior with all of the righteous indignation our overly-entitled fever brains could manage.

We made this shitty little bed and now we get to lie in it.  I don't come around often enough to be called an elder statesman anymore but I'm not going anywhere else either.  Doodi is lazy and Smooth is a tool but they keep the lights on and the thankless job of moderating this place keeps getting done by people I abuse at every possible opportunity.

Thanks to all of you that built, sustained, tore down and rebuilt this place over and over again.

The rest of you shitbirds can go fuck yourselves.

Haha.

You used "your" indicating a singular possessive as a modifier for "vernacular" a collective noun that describes the common tongue of a body of people.

This is the reason people have fled the site.  There is a persistent culture where any criticism whatsoever of the site, or the owner, is rewarded with a "Fuck you" attitude.

There is outright denial of any issue, or shortcoming.

I really enjoy the show Kitchen Nightmares, not so much for the cooking aspect, but because it is about business.  It applies here.  It's amazing to see restaurant owners so openly and deeply in denial about their own shortcomings that they literally will become violent if you try to make them face the reality of it.

They will vehemently argue their food is good, their service is great, they just don't get enough customers.  If it wasn't for the damn stupid customers, being too stupid to see how great the food and service were, they would be a success.

The truth is, if you have stellar food and service, you don't need to worry about customers.  The most successful restaurants have wait lists going into months ahead of time, and do zero advertising.

And so we compare to 2old2play.

We are told the implementation of V3 was great.

We are told the functionality improved.

We are told that the site is actually easier to use.

We are told the content is great.

And so here we are, in near empty room, blaming those damn users for not having the good sense to enjoy the awesomeness here.

The only people left are those with no taste buds, or just plain bizarre food fetishes.

The site traffic and activity didn't drop for any other reason than bad content, and bad service.

Everyone can argue the nuances in here all they want....but if the food was good, there would be a line out the door.

NO, there is no problem with dissent and conversation.  This poster came out of nowhere after apparently the pwn clan has already moved on from the site and ranted and then left, again.

That's not constructive.  That's showing up to shit on a positive change brewing, complain about things long past, and then leave again.  It's pointless other than masterbation.

Seems like the fact that I didn't know the user and I've been here almost as long, goes to show that clans are too insulated as it is and makes the point for opening up everything.

Thus is the nature of internet forums. People get their panties in a wad and "leave" only to lurk and troll or return to let us know about how they got butt-hurt over an internet video game forum. If you've moved on to a place that is better suited to your needs, good for you, but don't troll and isult the people left behind that may be trying to bring things back.

When I first started on XBL about 5 years ago, I was frustrated playing with randoms. I eventually got plugged-in with a couple of groups (some since gone bye-bye due to loss of interest) and found out having friends on XBL was actually fun.

I used the forums as a means to an end - that being finding gamers to hang out with and play games. Use the forums to shoot the shit and get to know one another. You know, a way to communicate and find like-minded individuals.

I'm not really sure what kind of "features" and "functionality" people expect from a forum. I mean, what is the purpose of this site? Is it to offer a place to find gamers? Is it a place where people hide in private forums and form "clans"? Is 2o2p inclusionary or exclusionary?

I have no idea as I have only really been active hear over the past year. All of this other drama with private groups and people coming back to trash the site is just stupid. I think the internet is big enough for people to find their niche and be happy. There is nothing to be gained by holding grudges and dredging up past failures (or what you consider a failure in your world).

Absolutely...I was actually researching that particular subject as a possible topic for a future article and I would love to include a quote or two, but not here. I have cheerleaders on Twitter and no moderators...it's Shangri-La for the morally imbalanced.

Yeah, phone posting, while not impossible is a tad rough. I did it a while back whille on the road, literally, and it wasn't as easy as it could have been.

No, lets please not derail the conversation. That was just an attempt at humor. Sorry. To seriously answer the question about another site as an example, I'm not aware of one. What I think doodi is after is something new. At least for the older gaming community specifically. The other thing I will say about the new site development is that it would pay to look at the new MP system the next gen consoles are putting out and see what the community system lacks. This site should fill the gaps and complement what they have going on there. Because that's what sent me here in the first place. If XBL had an option to "only play with older players" I would have selected that to begin with and never started a search for an online community.

Yeah, we kinda primed it for derailment, didn't we? I would imagine that the new consoles won't change much regarding the MP aspect of games, except maybe increase lobby size and hopefully reduce lag, but we won't know for sure until we get in some play time. I don't necessarily think that 2o2p should act as a matchmaking site, but it should lubricate the process of finding mature, like-minded gamers.
