[GT5] Thursday Nights (Discussion Thread) [FINISHED]

Welcome to the official GT5 Thursday night discussion thread where general discussions about the Thursday night races (spec cars, how person X did you wrong last night sad etc) can be discussed.

JUNE 1, 2013 Update: Until further notice GT5 Thursday night races are being held in a public room. Find my name and join via that or find the lobby I'm hosting...title = "clean recomen only"

Below link is to the spec cars spreadsheet. See what this is about by reviewing the unofficial guidelines below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiaZK9drHM9AdDFEME1FVjExUU9FUHcxYjVvSzdhZVE&authkey=CIf98IwC&hl=en_US#gid=69

Unofficial 2O4F GT5 racing League Guidelines (which isn’t a league)

These GT5 races are run every Thursday starting at 7:00 pm EST until we stop racing (3-5 hours).  For more details keep reading but all you need to know to join is follow sections “How to join” and “Spec Cars”.

How to Join:

1.    Send a friend request to “Parcells2” and join my lounge any time after 7:00 EST on Thursday night. You access your own and your friend’s lounges via the Community tab of the main GT Auto screen.

Spec Cars

1.    Each week we usually run a specific built spec car on 4-5 tracks. The link below takes you to the Google spreadsheet where we store each week’s car/tracks. Look for the correct dated sheet. We usually try to keep it on the far left – copy/paste each week. If something is not obvious about the spreadsheet please post your question in this thread.

2.    The spec car cannot be built with an oil change (Race Mod and aero packages allowed) and it must be purchased in either…

                  a.   The standard dealership (preferably not DLC)

                  b.   The on-line dealership (with sufficient notice of course)

3.    The spec car must be posted no later than 4 days before the scheduled event (That’s 7:00 on Sunday). If no spec car is assigned by the cut off time we run standard races that week (this is to give people time to build and tune/test each weeks car)

4.     Any participant can build a spec car/track. Simply fill in the spreadsheet or tell us what you want and we’ll make it happen. Its first come first serve and you can build spec cars for multiple weeks in advance.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiaZK9drHM9AdDFEME1FVjExUU9FUHcxYjVvSzdhZVE&authkey=CIf98IwC&hl=en_US#gid=69

General (nice to know) Points of interest…dynamic as Parcells sees fit – its my post Smile

  1. 1.     1.    While not running the aforementioned spec cars we race whatever we want to. Typically we run recommended cars or shuffle races.

    2.    When racing recommended cars all participants use the same tyre compound as voted by the majority (or loudest). We usually stick with the default.

    3.    We either vote for or decide what tracks to race throughout the night. Predetermined Spec races being the exception.

    4.    Spec races start at 9:00 or shortly thereafter (allow west coast participants barely enough time to hurry home and race).

    5.    You can use any driving/game assist you want.

  2.

    6.   There are no points awarded or any type of awards whatsoever except the pure joy of giving your competition a solid beat down and then rubbing his face in it. The goal is fun but we all take our SIM racing semi-serious.

    7.    If you don’t have a working mic, we know from experience that you can hear us so just follow along (with car and tyre choices)

Borderline Minutia

  1. 1.       The above rules/guidelines may seem overwhelming but that’s mostly Parcells anal traits coming to the surface. It’s pretty simple stuff and always a great time. A core 7-10 of us have been doing this since Jan, 2011 and we have a riot.
  2.
  3. 2.      The best thing GT5 has over Forza is while on-line racing you can go out on the track and practice before everyone is ready to race. No waiting in the lobby for anything once the car/track has been determined which is top priority after every race.
  4.
  5. 3.      Parcells tries to schedule the races long enough to give last place on the grid a “reasonable” chance to finish first and to do it cleanly (7-12 minutes depending on the # of participants, spec races sometimes longer). With too many people obviously this isn’t very realistic so be careful.
  6.
  7. 4.     The only DLC to date that we’ve used is the Spa track. For 4-5 bucks this is almost stealing the best track in the World. June, 2012 update - all of us purchased the Motegi track pack.
  8.
  9. 5.     I’m pretty sure we only have one controller user (note the section of this info.)
  10.
  11. 6.     The rare week Parcells can’t make it I’m pretty sure the boys still race in my on-line lounge for simplicity sake. It seems the host has no more control over game settings than any of the participants do.
  12.

OK guys, updated the OP, let me know if I missed anything.

Also updated the spec car for next weeks race (link in OP). Last week right out of the gate Todd picked the Peugeot 207 and we had such a great time with that car we raced it for over an hour. So Parcells regurgitated the same car for next week (with some minor add-ons) that we raced a year ago.

Not sure Boza but the build is definitely correct. It'll all work out in the end, hope to see you later on.

Parcells, I want to build the car for next week.  A Jag XJR race car, premium, from the recent DLC.  Tracks will include Spa, Le Mans La Sarthe, the Ring, Suzuka and Fuji.

Back up car is the Mazda 787.

Parcells did not buy the most recent DLC and did not intend to (I find 1000+ cars is plenty for me) BUT I will buy it if you build it. However, I cannot speak for the rest of the regulars so I guess I can only say be forewarned there's a chance we all might not have it???

ANYONE not able to buy this car?

Great racing last night fellas, again had some great battles with most people especially Boza and btw Boza...

1) Sorry about pushing you into the sand on laguna. That crazy man XXSitement was coming through the two of us with his faster car come hell or high water and I wasn't prepared for him coming up on the inside of me and simply carried too much speed when I ducked in behind (on top) of you. I can guarantee you this will never happen again until quite possibly some time next Thursday evening. wink

2) I'll send you a PM detailing the real truth about our regular participants smiley

Parcells is still amazed we made it through the entire Madrid race without so much as one real incident. Of course we were all bundling it up inside as minor chaos ensued on the next and much more forgiving track. Oh well.

Parcells, I am out of town for work next Thursday, and so I would prefer to do the Jag for March 22.  You do not need to the premium DLC necessarily, although that is the easiest and best way to get the car.  It also is a standard that can be purchased at the UCD (not the OCD).  Assuming its OK with you, I will build the car this weekend and post the specs.  That will give each of us almost two weeks to purchase and/or build the car (premium or standard), and/or come up with an alternative race car that has the same PP.  Sound like a plan Stan?

I don't have the DLC, nor am I sure if I'll even purchase it.  If on the off chance I do make the race, I'll pluck something out of my garage that is close in PP.

Which leads into my next topic...due to a wonky work schedule (1am - 12pm PST) I'm going to be intermittent on making races for the next couple months...depends if I'm up or not.  Rest assured I'll be back to reclaim my position in the back of the field once my schedule returns to "normal".  Keep my spot warm.  cheeky

Parcells don't who this Stan person you speak of is but he sounds suspicious if you ask me.

The following week sounds better Stan but I still can't speak for the majority.

The Jag specs for March 22 are posted.  You can get the car via the DLC, by buying it from the new car dealership or by buying it from the used car dealership.  Best way to get it is via the DLC.

Look at the new guy being all respectful and such smiley

Whether we want to run it or not is irrelevant (Craig makes Parcells drive cars he's not overly fond of on a regular basis). Fact is if you build it we will run it. So if you can get the spreadsheet updated by 7:00 on Sunday that is next weeks car, end of discussion.

Let me know if you want assistance filling out the spreadsheet AND you make wish to take a look at previously built spec cars...we did run this car some time ago (6- 8 months???) so in the interest of easily filling out the spreadsheet (copy/paste) you may like the build Dan did for this car ages ago? or at least copy that sheet, rename it and alter the build to your desire.

Giddy up.

Updated the original post guys and created the corresponding series event thread in "Racing Events & Series Information" sub-forum. This thread is now the discussion thread and if I did this the way Cotter envisioned the series event thread will be locked down.

Parcells can you post this to the spreadsheet.......The car is going to be the Lexus ISF Racing Concept 08 and the only upgrade is the mid rpm turbo. Racing hard tires and the PP should be 578.    Tracks are Spa, Monza, Suzuki, Nurburgring Nordschleife, and Rome.  Cya you guys Thursday night!!!

Done Boza...spreadsheet updated with next weeks car.

FYI...I did not include the Rome track but will put it back on if you say to do so. Reason I did this is to allow an extra lap or two on the first 4 (awesome) tracks and still run the spec races within the 1.5 hours I usually try to get them run under. No big deal to add it back (or keep rome and remove a different one? - its your call) just thinking out loud.

The car "sounds" expensive so as always if anyone needs financial assistance in purchasing this weeks car, let us know, we'll fix you up.

And should anyone care, (how could you not?), the tournament starts on Thursday so you can bet Parcells will have the bedroom TV moved to the living room to keep track of the madness. Its go time!

You can leave Rome off Parcells and I'm glad you like the car.   I took it for a spin on SPA and was blown away by the way it handles, but you have be easy on the tires!!!  They can wear pretty fast if you drive too aggressively.

Just hit 1000 cars in my GT5 garage last night, and in doing so, got the Car Collector Trophy.  Now I just need to find the time over the next few years to try out all of the cars.  I am sitting on almost 20 million in credits, and have about 30 or so cars left to buy.

I will cry if my game save gets corrupted and I have to start over again!!!  sad

Parcells passed 170 cars a couple weeks back when I bought about 25 cars in one night.

Was another good night of racing last evening. Ask Boza about the first race of the night on Spa wink

Ahh, you're just being kind Boza aaaannd deflecting away from the truth...you totally butchered that last corner and handed me the race smiley

You're right though, somehow the race was even better than the practise session I didn't want to end we were so evenly matched.

Anyone want to do some dirt/snow tracks in the coming weeks? May entice Fantomas to show up and Mark and I are certainly always up for GT5 dirt racing...with a good wheel it's amazing!!!!

I got triple screen GT5 set up on Friday night.  It looks amazing, and the set up was very straightforward.  Here is a set up guide at gtplanet.net, if any of you are interested.  The most complicated part is buying the two additional PS3s, since the used ones are not heavily discounted.  I could not get anyone on craigslist to respond to my inquiries.  Game Stop had them, but they only discounted the used PS3s $20 per unit.
