This is my setup! Nothing fancy but it gets the job done - I did have a 37" Panny LCD but replaced it with my older 32" Panny LZD85 which is a better screen.

Thanks guys!

I love my GT2 Brnt - I've had it almost 2 years and it's never missed a beat, unlike my Clubsports which have had several sensor problems (2 throttle sensors and a clutch sensor replaced to date) and I think my load cell is on the way out too! Fanatec list it as out of stock so I have to make do with slightly erratic brakes for now!

You'll need to upload your pics to a phot hosting site (i.e. photobucket.com) Once you've uploade the pic to the hosting site, you'll see several links for posting said pic. Copy the direct link. In the text entry box here, you should see a row of boxes across the top of the text entry box. Hover your mouse over them & it will tell you what each one does. One of them is the post picture button. It will bring up a pop up window. Just paste the direct link you copied there & click ok.

Over the last year I've been slowly upgrading my racing setup. First thing was upgrading the TV from SD to HD.  Then I replaced my Office Chair/Speedblack Stand with a Playseat Evolution.  The last piece is the wheel.

My good old MS wheel has served me well, but after three years of use (or abuse) it's starting to show it's age.  The right paddle has broken and I've noticed the steering column seems to be a wee bit wobbly.

I've been eyeing the CSR XL value pack but I'm thinking of using my Xmas/B-Day money to splurge on the CSR Elite wheel and pedals instead.

Stupid question time...

At almost three times the price is Elite that much better than the regular CSR wheel to justify the cost?

The Elite manual lists an "XBox 360 headset Adapter cable." Will that allow me to use my existing Turtle Beach headset with the wheel for both game audio and voice chat or would I still need to jury rig something up?

I'm assuming I'll need to drill holes to mount the wheel to the Playseat, yes?

Shaggy, I have had an Elite for a year now, plus I owned a CSR wheel for a while as well.  There is no question that the Elite is the superior wheel.  The force feedback is far more powerful and subtle than the CSR.  You can better detect wheels losing grip and better correct for it.  The Elite is a clear step up, but it has its faults.  First, I have had terrible problems with reliability.  Since December, I have had three Elites fail.  It has been the same problem every time - burnt out motors.  I am currently working with Fanatec to replace the burnt out motors on my replacement Elite.  Second, the Elite only works with the M$ standard headset, the M$ wireless headset or the Triton Warhead Headset (which bypasses the wheel for chat entirely).  Your Turtle Beach headset will not play well with the Elite.  Trust me, I have tried.  For whatever reason, the chat does not work with the Turtle Beach and Elite and Fanatec cannot/will not fix that, since the Elite does work with the stock M$ headset and the wireless options I mention above.

If you decide to get the CSR Elite, don't skimp on the pedals.  The Clubsport pedals are the best, but the CSR Elite pedals are also good.  Both have the superb load cell brake.  The cheaper CSR pedals lack the load cell brake.

Shaggy, another option you might consider is the Porsche 911 GT2 Wheel - Clubsport edition XXL special bundle they are currently offering on the web site.  It comes with :

GT2 wheel

Club Sport V2 pedals

Porsche wheel shifter set

wireless dongle

carbon paddle shifters

I ordered mine on Christmas Eve (upgrading from the MS Wheel/pedals as well). I would have been fine with either the Porsche or CSR wheel (although the Porsche wheel with the Alcantara was appealing), but really wanted the Club Sport pedals, since everyone I have talked with are really happy with them.

I don't know if it will solve the Turtle Beach headset issue or not (I have a Turtle Beach too, so I guess I'll find out in a week or so...)

I have a GT2 with the original V681 firmware and my Turtle Beach mic works fine! I had considered upgrading to the CSR Elite but I love my GT2 so much that unless it fails then I'm sticking with it!

Parcells knows nothing of the Turtle Beach stuff but my advise is if you can afford the Elite thats plenty of justification for a SIM freak like yourself. Is it really worth it? At twice the price Parcells is skeptical but the build quality is far superior and it definitely feels a lot smoother than my Turbo S which was awesome (and still is - backup wheel) . I never had the CSR but I think it was a very similar build to the Turbo S or GT2 even. All fanatec wheels have the same bolt pattern and yes you'll have to drill some holes. I\m very happy with my Elite wheel (zero problems almost a year now) as I was with my Turbo S, in other words don't feel ripped off with the slightly excuberant costs of the Elite.

If it comes down to a question of buying the Elite and foregoing the clubsport pedals go with the CSR wheel and get the pedals cause they'rs fucken excellent!

My GT2 went straight on to my PlaySeat frame with no drilling required (same pattern as G27) and I'm assuming the CSR will be the same. My GT2 is coming up for 2 years old and it's never missed a beat, but I would expect that from any Fanatec wheel. The problem for me buying a CSR was the additional £200 cost of replacing my Turtle Beaches for a set of truly wireless Tritons, but if money wasn't an issue I'd probably buy a CSR and a set of Tritons. I'm sure you'll be very happy with any Fanatec wheel to be honest!

I have just gone from the CSR to the Elite, the first thing I noticed was not the feedback but the pinpoint precision. The CSR was good, very good, but the Elite is another world. The bottom line is, you can buy a CSR, it will be so much better than the MS you will be more than happy. If you buy the Elite you have to take the word of other users it is worth the extra bucks. Same goes for the CSR pedals, such a step up from the MS you will not miss the load cell to start, but you will be thinking about it. So the bottom line here is the Value pack will be a huge improvement over what you have, you will be delighted. Stick it on a PC even more so. But...sooner or later you will be looking at the Elite and the Clubsport Pedals.

So that is my 2 cents.

I think Parcells is right that the FFB hardware is the same between the GT2 and CSR wheel based on what I've seen from Fanatec's site.
I also didn't expect the amount of love for the Clubsport pedals.  Good to know.  I definitely want at least the Elite pedals for the load cell tech.  Should make right foot braking pretty interesting the fist couple of races out, although I might actually try to learn heel toe.

Knight, sooner or later is actually now.  I'm already thinking about Elite/Clubsport combo.  [;)]

Hello,

if anyone changes his setup from CSR to Elite I would be interested in buying your "old" one, because my no-force-feeback-madcatz-plastic-wheel has to leave as soon as I have the money. I race only with ears and eyes and that is not optimal. Someday in 2013 I want a new wheel, with new pedals.

After consulting with the lovely Mrs. Shaggy SoCal I have taken the plunge into the world of Fanatec and placed my order for the Elite wheel and Clubsport pedals.  The wheel is listed as Out of Stock until the end of January so expect a lot of setup questions from me in February.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll post pics once I get everything sorted out.

Will you share some of your consulting skills with me, any form of consulting I try with Mrs Fitzy on anything to do with Forza or gaming in general never goes well for me. If I mentioned spending that sort of cash on a game I could be limping for a least a week.40

In reality I have no consulting skills. I think it's just blind luck that I married a woman that "gets" gaming.  She also knows that Forza and other racing games like it are an extension of my auto racing passion rather than a gaming addiction.

It doesn't give me a blank check by any means. Financial responsibilities must be met first but she's usually pretty supportive of my racing passion, real or virtual, even if I'm reluctant because the cost is way outside my comfort zone for a "Want".

On the flip side I'm similarly supportive of her when it comes to her writing.  She's an opera singer by trade, but over the last couple years she's been writing a series of young adult fantasy novels that we've self-published. The books are important to her so I do what I can to support that.

So in keeping with that theme of mutual support of each other's bliss (and hopefully to help fund my racing career)...
