Put in about 4 hours last night and that was surely entertaining. Big smile on my face when I opened the game and found this gigantic map almost “Skyrim like”. Then I proceeded to die in the very first mission which wasn’t even a mission, I was still playing the prologue LOL.
Graphics are awesome! Dialogue is spot on ghetto, extremely well done. The World is absolutely gigantic. After my first real mission I wanted to see how long it would take to circumvent the entire map so headed up North which took a good 10-12 minutes via the Freeway. I took a wrong turn so decided to lift some of the map’s “fog of war” by driving around some local streets which led to my biggest downfall of the evening.
I noticed a couple of young ladies just standing on the street corner and they were looking pretty good so I stopped my car to see if I could chat up one of them up and maybe get lucky. I got out of the car and approached one of them hoping to engage in a conversation but she didn’t take kind to this and threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave. Apparently I hesitated just a bit too long because the next thing I know she’s on the phone to the pigs and now I’m a wanted man (but totally innocent – geeze).
Having successfully outrun the cops in my first mission I figured I could do it again no problem just get out of this small town and race down the highway until I lose them. Big mistake. I raced away for a while but more and more cop cars starting showing up I just couldn’t get away so I took a side street somewhere hoping to hide but didn’t have a clue where I was going and eventually trapped myself. So I decided to give up. I got out of my car to surrender and by now there are half a dozen cop cars surrounding me plus a fucken helicopter. That’s fine and all but the fuckers were shooting at me (I’m totally unarmed and hugely outmanned) and they didn’t stop until they killed me “WASTED” comes up on the screen and I say “what the fuck?”
Next thing I know I’m walking out of the town’s local hospital with negative amounts of cash no car and I’m still at the top of the map. So I had to steal a car to get back down South.
Couple of observations:
1) They took the time to include rumble strips on the shoulders of the freeway….AWESOME
2) Hell of a lot of traffic around which is awesome but the red lights seem to last forever and it really sucks when you have to wait for more than one red light because the cars ahead of you don’t take off quick enough.
Press down on your dpad to open character selection then use your right stick to select between them. If the little menu is blank they are not selectable yet
If you don't want to be shot by the police be sure to not move when they are on one star. After that you better run and hide. Also make sure you change cars because the car you run in well be marked and if any other fuzz see you in it they will try to pull you over.
Yeah parcells. The other characters become playable as you progress through the story. Wow. This game has exceeded my expectations for GTA. So far its completely awesome. Graphics are beautiful. Movement and fighting sequences are smoother and easier. The cars still drive like crap but its a lot better than previous GTAs. Such a awesome game its ridiculous.
Also you wait for red lights? This is gta msn if anyone gives you shit put some lead through their face. I do like how people stick their arm out of the windows to give you the bird it's just Like real life

I was fairly certain waiting for red lights was a bit anal and not in the spirit of the game but I enjoyed the immersion factor plus at this point I couldn’t figure out what was going to set the cops off because in my first mission I went through a shit load of red lights even committed vehicular homicide but that didn’t get the cops after me yet I innocently confront a person on the side of the road and she calls the cops on me ending in my death…what gives?
However when I failed the side mission to transport a broken down vehicle to the impound because I wasn’t fast enough (first attempt I failed because I got arrested – not quite sure why) I realized I can’t wait for all the red lights.
I mostly bought Horizon because I wanted to just drive around and check out the spectacular World Turn 10 created for us. Huge disappointment to find out the Horizon map was really quite small. But this GTA world will be everything I wanted out of Horizon (by a long shot) and then some except of course not being able to drive with a wheel…been a long time (FM1) since Parcells drove with a controller.

Are you sure about that? Have you ever tried hooking up your wheel to the Xbox while playing a GTA game? I did in GTA IV and it worked fine. The bumper cam worked best for this. I won all the races easily. You won't have a lot of functions like aiming to shoot, but the car should work fine using the wheel and pedals. If you get out of the car, you will have to turn off the wheel, and reconnect the controller. A little cumbersome, but a wheel worked with GTA IV, so I don't see any reason it won't work with GTA V, especially for just driving around and exploring and running the races.
Also if you drive at night with no lights on the police will try to pull you over. Also fighting on the street wil bring the police. Its cool though as people stand around watching you and taking photos on there phones lol
So afte a week or so with this game my impressions are immense. Just the driving part of this game is what horizon should have been. Loads of cars, police, car upgrades, massive map, off-Road driving, awesome races etc etc. The only issue I have is it now raises the bar I expect from games to an impossible high as none but Rockstar cab create a game as extensive and as complete as this. Hell there was no real day one dlc or anything. Kind of makes you think really considering this cost me the same os horizon and halo

If you run through a red light while to cops are there they wil chase you.
But the police present on GTA 5 is a lot lower than the other games and a lot more realistic.
Personally I want to burn through the missions then after that I do all the other stuff like driving around etc.
I completed GTA 4 in 2009 but still played it monthly just driving around and shit.
