2012 ALMS Race Series - Iberien Circuit & Final Results
2012 ALMS Race Series - Iberien Circuit & Final Results
Final Results at bottom of 1st thread. I have decided to suspend the series. My schedule and the low participation are the two main reasons. I want to thank all who ran. I will try to help Gary/insanerc with his ProAm series. I can contribute my extensive knowledge in playing a video game. Unfortunately, he will not accept any of my tuning help as I have none to offer. If you see me on late/early in the eve/morning on FM3, please jump in. I will be running races for fun on tracks that Turn 10 foolishly decided to omit from FM4. We will run all the goodies. Camino Extreme Reverse (much better than forward), NY, Bugatti, Sidewinder and the real Rally de Positano. No brake line (chickens, need not apply) and the leader in the lobby will start from the back. An occasional short sim race when the track has a pit.
2O4F ALMS Race Series
This is a Series which will pit you against other clan members in a Full Sim competition. Much like the one off events we had the last couple of years. It is for those of us who have crappy RL schedules and can't make the plethora of events that occur during normal people's day.
You run at your leisure the race parameters that are provided and submit your time by pm to me at this 2O4F clan site before the race deadline and are placed accordingly. Race one or race them all. It's your choice. You are not required to run in all the races. You could even run just the TT's or just the races. Nothing would make me happier than if I was finishing out of the top 10 places and just got 4 points for running myself. The more the merrier. You then have the opportunity to make fun, get made fun of by other clan members in the spirit of good racing.
It will feature a different car or cars every month to follow the previous months ALMS race.
Full Sim Damage will be used during all races. But not during the Time Trials. Races will be no more than 100 miles. I will try to structure the start so that we always have to start from the back in a 12 man field. You may race with another clan member or just against the AI. All racing assists can/could be used except for the Rewind feature. If participation is good, I may have some others perks for later in the series.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert but have tried to pick cars that are equal and tracks that resemble the RL ones if not avail in FM4. And feedback on my goof-ups is welcome. This is an honor based system. I do not nor intend to spend my life watching replays. But in the spirit of fairness they should be available to all easily for others to watch.
Scoring will be based on the ALMS system for 8 hour races.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_American_Le_Mans_Series_season
Points can be earned for finishing 70% of a race due to damage. All drivers will earn a minimum of 4 points to encourage participation. Clean racing rules apply. You may tune the cars or run them stock. But you must run the PI specified. No corner cutting, etc. Anything that a RL event organizer could and would penalize you for.
You need to do the following to participate.
Run the exact race parameters provided in this post below.
Save your replay (within 15 seconds of the end of the race). "IMPORTANT!"
Save it under name given, ex. ALMS2012SEB
Upload to your SF (for possible review) until the end of the next month's race
Submit your time information with your Clan name and or GT if different.
Only assist that can not be used is the Rewind feature. Forgot about that one. It goes against the whole concept of Full Sim damage.

FYI for All !!!!!! Insanerc/x2O4FxProAm is looking for drivers to do the current and future TT and or races. Talk to him or see his post # 107 in this thread. Perfectly acceptable way to enjoy the madness together. Just submit your TT or race times as usual. And save the replay.
Only assist that can not be used is the Rewind feature. You may drive the cars untuned or with the tunes offered by us or your own tunes as long as they conform to the PI Specs.

You do not have to finish 1st in order to win. You are racing against your clan members, too. My goal here is to provide an enjoyable time. A special invite to all average drivers. You are wanted and welcome. Not everyone can be a speedster. I'm convinced that many average (by clan standards) drivers don't compete because they see the times put up by speedsters in races. I've never agreed to this philosophy. I used to be slow and now I'm not as slow. But I've always enjoyed the racing. It's suppose to be fun.
This round is only 2 weeks. I goofed and didn't realize that the ALMS schedule is gearing up to more than a race a month. You can drive either the 05' #51 Panoz Esperante GTLM or the 10' #33 Jaguar RSR XKR GT both upgraded to R3 800. Both are in the D2NR's garage or shoot me a message and I'll gift them to you. Tuned by ZiggyProline. Are avail on his SF also. Please rate too. Or tune them yourself. Just no engine swaps, please.
There is two(2) required pit stops in this race. The first (1) between laps 12-15 and a second (2) between laps 27-30. You will be running most of the time to catch up and pass the AI. I was able to finish first in my first try without TCS. I noticed that I didn't have it on after about 5 laps and decided to continue. But will probably try it again with it on. Will use the new wheel I got from Soapynuts last week. I have been having a ball and am much slower but will do it again. The race went very quickly. It was done before I knew it because the track is so short. These cars are overpowered for this track. So sliding off the table on the corners is always a possibility. Enjoy.
Please read race info carefully. Change only the areas that are indicated. Leave all others alone!
All assists may/can be used except REWIND.

Random thoughts: I have enjoyed doing these type of races. It is a practiced skill, just like tuning or painting. The more you do them the better you get. A fun time with plenty of deliciously close calls. Surprisingly, the AI seems rather polite as long as you are too. I try to do it one time only. Otherwise it can be grinding. You run it a second time for a lousy 15 second improvement. Once I'm 3 laps into a race I don't restart. You could be there forever trying for the perfect race. I just take my lumps. Remember, it's a long season. And this is just another series to give you some variety. And save your replay for your SF. No replay no points. Put them up right before the deadline.
Have Fun,
Mark aka oldmodelt aka "the sim meister"
That could be fun. :) I might be ale to carve some time out to run something like that, since you can run on your own.
Color me interested!
Me please!
Sounds fun. Put me down please
Me Me Me Me !!!
I'm interested.
I me too
Very interested!
Interested! What are the two cars? Corvette & Aston Martin? Also, do the AI need to be in certain cars? All in the same class (GT1)? 6 GT1 and 6 P1 or P2?

Sounds good I'll give it a go.
And you won't lose 30 points because you have to work on that race night.

Might be fun to have Ford vs Dodge vs Chevy All built to R2 875

1st post in thread updated with Round #1 race info. Have fun! Keep track of the deadline. I will try to send out reminder to all who have expressed an interest or continue to run in the series before each deadline. If you don't want to be pm'd please notify me
Just wait a second or two and the magnifier glass with a + in it appears. Then click and it will get bigger. Sorry. I'm working on it in my spare time between work/work/swimming for the State meet/RL stuff with the wife and kids of course fun with FM4.

Danke Scheon.
I'm interested. Open time schedule will work for me right now.
I have updated all Rules and Regs in 1st post.
Many thanks to Cotter for putting this thread in the Race Schedule section.
Now let's keep it there with a good number of participants. Remember, if nobody runs then I win. Can't have that.
Finished my race at Sebring. Just took my time working my way through the pack. Then just concentrated on making clean and consistent laps. One bigger off on turn 7, lap 8 I think. But no damage credits debited from my race winnings even though AI rubbed me a few times. Had a fun challenge driving with only TCS. And really tried to simulate a RL race by doing the cockpit view, no map, braking line and no speedometer. Just the ahead/behind indicators which is what info the pit crew would normally give me. Got used to the Vette's tough view after a few laps.
My replay up on my SF under ALMS2012SEB for viewing.
I did a dry run of 7 laps. I was not able to keep up with AI. At best I was able to keep up with the last AI, but over shooting the breaking line and missing a couple of turns made it clear to me that I am not at this level yet.
Sorry folks, I am bowing out.
I wish everyone luck. .
Gald I found this thread! I thought it just disappeared, hadn't considered it being moved.
Come on Ziggy, give it a go!
I'm pretty sure I'll not be able to work my way to the front. My plan is to avoid too much damage and finish. If I'm able to hang in the back half of the pack...
Ziggy, Please give it another go. It is learning process. I remember my first race over at GTPlanet back in my GT4 days. Motegi Road course against the speedsters. I finished last place about 3 mins behind the leaders. A humbling experience. http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=116491
Eventually with a lot of practice I was able to work my way into the middle of the pack usually. It does take practice/concentration to run these longer races with the fact that a small screw up could ruin the race. But that's the fun of it. For me at least.
That's what the RL drivers do every week/month. And you can be satisfied that you did what many drivers in this clan won't/don't do. Tip: Do a 10 lapper to practice your positioning. Put it to bed then do the full race the next time with a committment to finish it, good or bad. Generally the AI does small mistakes that will allow you the chance for moving up. And if you don't/can't. What's the big deal. The big question is did you have fun? Screw the results. You'll get at least 10 points for running. Add enough of them up and you beat the occasional speedsters who runs a few.
Anyone can be fast if they don't use Full Sim. They call it NFS. (calculated insult to challenge the speedsters)
edit:
Now that you made me miss my swim workout with only 3 weeks left. A couple of things. I came to love these type of races over at GTP. I was my way of comparing myself to others. I'm not the fastest and old age hasn't helped. But it was nice to see improvement during the series. Those races were run stock and the only thing you could tweak was the top speed/acceleration. But you could change tyres/pit stops strategy. If you screwed up and hit something too hard. Congrats, because next time around the computer rewarded you with a mandatory penalty pit.
I can't/don't have the talent/love for tuning that many here do. But I do love these type of races. And can put them on for others who might also. And it's sort of like tuning in the fact that I have to get all these parameters together to get as level a playing field for all to participate. Go figure. Maybe that's why I chose to get back into swimming. I compete against others of the same age. 55-59. We get two things to use. A suit and goggles. I've had surgeries, they might have had prostrate problems. We're both old. So it's pretty equal, I guess.
At least you don't have to get into a speedo.
NakedRescue
Managed to get the Aston up to 4th place. Damned Zonda driver was plaing bumper cars in 4th-5th and after that battle I had 9,233cr in damageand 3rd place was uncatchable with 6 laps to go...
Total race time: 52:36.801
Ziggy, short, dry runs don't tell you anything about how a longer race will play out. I was in last place until lap 8, but consistently turning 2:03-05s, along with drafting and AI mistakes, made for great racing the rest of the way...
You are not required to post your run time. You can if you want to. Just pm me by the deadline and then put the replay up on your SF. I did it just to get people interested in the series. And I do not open any pm's until after the deadline and will always post mine before I open them up.
