I've said it before and I'll say it again - Titanfall is a Halo killer.  Yeah it has sprint, but it's built like that from the start.  You can also run up walls.  But it's a brand new IP, not trying to change a previously loved IP.

Halo is a Halo-killer.  When you're at the top of the heap, you've got nowhere to go but down, but its the decisions of the Halo franchise that got us where we are.  They could have stopped after 3.  Hell, they could have stopped after Reach.  They could have hired more and increased the production schedule to come out with releases faster.

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

It is impossible to please everyone playing this game.  It’s been happening since Halo began that people have found something to gripe about that they don’t like, the noob combo, super-bouncing, the over-powered sword lunge, button combos, SMG starts, dual-wielding, the pistol, jet packs, armour lock, sprint, no matter what someone is not going to like it.

I like sprint, it only made sense to me since the days of Halo 2 to be able to jog towards the action if I’m not already engaged.  I don’t really understand all the issues with people getting away from a fight.  Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the sprint negated if you are taking fire?  I never even think about using it if I’m already engaged since I’ll just end up in limbo as it is cancelled by the incoming fire.  I use thruster pack to jump around a corner to disengage a fight instead.  If you see someone already in a sprint and aren’t able to finish them before they get to cover I don’t really see that as any different than watching them fly by in a vehicle and getting out of range or someone using cover to advance across the field without taking fire.

Perhaps they will modify sprint for H5 to tone it down a bit.  Reduce the speed slightly and reduce the duration to try to appease those that don’t like it.  Open battlefields that aren’t as cluttered would be nicer too.  And get rid of the infinite sprint armour upgrade.

Exactly.  The people that have abandoned Halo have been playing this game for 10+ years.  That is a long ass run for any game.  And Halo had the added advantage of being the only name in town when Xbox Live launched.  XBC was founded around finding a way to play CE without being at a LAN.  To those that have been playing since the beginning, Halo is getting a little stale, no matter what changes they make to the game it’s still Halo at its core.  People were getting burned out at the end of Halo 2 let alone 3 titles later.  Getting new blood into this game is not an easy thing with the amount of titles out there to capture gamer’s attention and take a chunk out of their disposable incomes.

The only thing that has kept me coming back to this game is its simplicity and the community.  I want to be able to fire it up and play on an equal footing with everyone else, not waste my time unlocking upgrades to get all the extras and playing Barbie dress-up (H4’s system still annoys me that I’m not even at SR100 and haven’t got all of the unlockable upgrades, not that the ones I have left are of that much interest to me).  Without Thursday I would’ve simply abandoned the title altogether since the odd time I get on no one is playing it.  I’ve tried other titles, but I just don’t have the time commitment to be able to get into them, otherwise I’m sure I’d be venturing out like everyone else.  There are many titles I would love to play if I had the time.

This is mostly true. One of the armor mods that came with the Champions Bundle called Resistor allows you to maintain your full mobility while taking fire.

There are times when it does get you in the fight faster.  Getting away wouldn't be as much of an issue to me if the maps were cleaner and factored in the sprint mechanic better.

One example is Skyline before the 4SK update.  According to people who've tried the no-sprint hack, Skyline plays a lot "better" without sprint.  "Better" probably means more like previous halos :)

Another is Adrift.  Sprint gets you in action faster..but if the map were smaller or had more open sightlines, same difference.

THISSSSSSS!!! In Reach, if someone was sprinting away, on many maps they were still somewhat in the open. In H4, there's so much crap on some of the maps, they're INSTANTLY behind something, and you're playing sprint hide and seek. Next thing you know the guy is nowhere near where you expected him to be.

@ Bluestar yes, if I shoot you while you sprint, you stop sprinting. But if you're behind a box I can't shoot at you, cos I'm not Doubke T ;) lol

I'd posit that it gets the average person into more bad situations than it gets them out of bad situations.

Lol Deep take a breath! I know several people who seem to only play halo during your Thursday night thingy. So you're doing your part to keep halo alive, even though you aren't into MM :)

As for the sprint numbers, i just go by the people I play with ;) That's my pool for statistics lol

That's a simple impossibility but there are many in forums who would try to convince you of otherwise. These people are but a fraction of the total Halo player base.

Have you ever played CE multiplayer?

Well, no, but I know how to spell matchmaking, though.  That makes my arguments just as valid.

Yes but not much at all. I was already playing Halo 2 before I tried it out.

Well for ME, you never have to go through the trouble. I go by my memory too, so if someone else does, that's fine by me! Besides, I DO play with some weirdos. I mean some of them used ARMOR LOCK!! So my experience may be "odd" lol

It's funny. I really like sprint but I can see how it has seemingly ruined the 'Halo' experience.

@ Dixon that's true in a way. Those of us who play angry make this mistake: get killed by someone like Double T or Laser, instant respawn, sprint right back to where we were killed, die again.

I'm talking out of my ass with this conjecture.

Average time till death from the first hit, since the Weapon Tune, is shorter than all previous Halos. Average lifespan in Halo 4, before and after Weapon Tune, is shorter than all previous Halos. I bet 343i does have the info, I just wish they would release it.

Part of my conjecture is based on the simple likelihood, as others have said, Sprint is widely used to get you back into the fight. Nobody runs away to stay away. That's no fun for the Sprinter either. I think I die most while trying to get away. I always wait too long and my latency hides some of the incoming hits.

Yet this push to a faster kill time makes sense because of everyone having Sprint, hitscan weapons, and bigger maps.  These are all still unintended consequences of Armor Abilities.  You've got to balance a map for all of them, which is impossible so long as the jetpack exists.  Balance might be able to be had if the jetpack were the default Armor Ability, like Tribes or even Titanfall, it appears.

Just fill your niche, 343.

sprint makes you have to deal with three speeds when in a fight - stopped, walking, running.  it's annoying and makes the fight less enjoyable.

It might help me if I knew if you were trying to convince me and others you are correct or if you are just stating a preference. I'm okay with you not liking Sprint. Fill your boots. :)

You probably saw my post on getting rid of Team armour colours. Almost nobody agrees with me but I know I want personal colours rather than team..

how are you going to tell if someone is on your team in a heated massive fight or at a glance?

Waypoint markers with colour. Halo just needs a little change there. Other games have it and Halo 2 was almost there too. Changes in the reticle can also do the trick. I want it as an option and maybe a playlist could allow it for people who like to dress up a bit.

Black Ops' LMGs with the target finders might be the best weapon for Halo to pick up.

For those who have no clue what this means, they're the machine guns that hold a lot of ammo, are pretty lethal at any range, and have a scope that, when you look through it and an emepy passes by, the game puts hit markers around them, showing you exactly where they are, so you can move to that hit marker and fire.
