Your welcome guys, I did this back in HLR when FTW FatRat used to run a competition. It was always tough at first, but within about 5 tacs i suddenly started laying down good times :)
The tunes helped from the guys, but it was the practice that really made me quick. I hope i can pass it all on to you :)
I'd like to request one of the tracks we do could maybe not be so technical. The C S in Leguna is really tough. For us newer guys, it might be nice to have one of the TACs be a little easier to gauge. Sedona club is tough as well. All good mind you, I'm just sayin'
As you crest the hill, go to the brakes hard and keep to the right. As you tail off the brakes get the car to turn in and your inside tyre MUST touch that curb. Go full throttle the moment you touch that curb and you realise that you can get on the power and touch the other curb. Use this technique to adjust your approach and brake zones until you make it.
All tracks are technical in their own right, especially when you are pushing yourself beyond your known limits. Every track you touch will take a new dimension, god help you when you master it :)
I'll be here to offer advise, as will the other aliens :)
No worries parcells, shame fitzy will end up faster than you heehe :D
Some take to hotlapping to improve their skills, some get frustrated and quit because they dont' see improvements straightaway and some just hate it :D

Which two are you, Parcells? :)
I guess you could say I hate it because its too much like practising and I'm frustrated when I dirty a good lap becuase of two inches giver take...Serenity Now!!!
The reason I hotlap is to improve my skills as a driver. To identify where I can improve, and learn new techniques that make me quicker.
A rivals format such as this is only meant to add a little competition among those who's skills closely match in order to provide that little push to improve.
This is the first event that's ever got me to really practice driving. Frustrating, yes.... But the track is feeling more solid, the car more hooked up. Funny, my best time doesn't seem to change much, but my average time has lowered considerably.
I ran a few more after the Seat races, definitely capable of hitting the 1.35s just need to put all the corners together in the one lap. I got a 1.35.8 but it was dirty. Just need to relax a bit more as I tense up when I know I'm on a quick lap and tend to mess it up.

YES I know how that goes.
About 3/4's or more through the lap my mind starts saying to itself-this is fast, don't screw up, don't screw up, SON OF A BITCH!
As for the screw, the turn in at the top isn't a big deal, I find I can gain a lot of time in the bottom half of it starting at the first big left, actually a good place to pass when the other driver is obliging...
Here's a tip: when you get frustrated, stop. Once you're clouded with rage you're not learning anything anymore.
Take a break and try again later. I find all of my improvement happens after the break, and I've had time to think about what I did.

Now I see my problem, I have found the thinking part difficult.

Just had to take an enforced break, away for the bank holiday weekend with no Internet signal! Lots of time spent thinking about this challenge..........

Unless I'm on a string of flyers I usually only run 10 lap stints with a short break in between. That usually helps keep the frustration level down and allows me to go back over my laps and look for areas of improvement. Even then I may only do two or three stints on a given evening.

This will be even more important in the next challenge. Just finished 12 laps at Sedona in my Elan and not a single clean lap. I did manage times that would put me in the low 50's if I can clean them up, so the car is shaping up well.
If you hated the sticky before... get ready to go to your happy place a lot
That's going to be fun :-)
Tourni6,
thanks for doing this. Its a great motivator.

Well done Tourni!
I still need to get in to the 34s though.

No more for me. I aint going to be able to string it all up. 98th on LB is ok.

And just like that it's a dirty lap

I think I'm done.
Does everyone never want to see Laguna Seca ever again.
Not really, but I have a better tune for it.
