I have a question about gear selection.  I find that I am having a difficult time on what gear to select. You guys have any pointers?

wildbill, happy to help at any time. If you see me on then shoot me an invite.

Ammodawg.  Gear selection is actually quite an easy thing to get right once you know what you are looking for.  The secret is NEVER to change up mid corner, unless its a long accelerating corner.   So you pick the gear that allows you to get on the throttle and not change up whilst trying to keep the car under control with the throttle.   Once you hit the rumble strips on the outside, you can change or you are probably about to.

Ah okay, I've been focusing on the wrong part of the turn to determine my gear selection then.  I finally got to where I no longer change gears while entering the turn.  I'll practice this tonight.

Sometime this weekend I would like to try to get a small session in if possible. I race with a controller. No assists even in higher HP. Manual Clutch. I don't  know what class I'm considered to be in. I usually try to place in top 1000 on the leaderboard when I race. I will take any and all advice possible. Thanks guys.

Hey Captin,

So is there some thing in particular you are looking to improve or are you just trying to bring down your laptimes?

Do you have a recent replay that you could send me? - i'll look at your driving habbits and take it from there :)

Im a pretty decent driver in forza for the most part. I just want to get someone elses opinion on my driving habits. I will get a good replay up sometime soon. I might have one in my storefront but most of them are for contests for the CRS im apart of via FM.net. If you want, I'll add you to my friend list or you add me and I can let you know when I get one up.

CRS = Community Rescue Service. It a group of people who help other people tune, drive, paint, and god forbid they have a profile crash or something we help them get back into their game.

I could get with you before noon central sometime on Saturday for a little bit if you'd like. I've got an appointment at 1 Saturday afternoon to hopefully buy myself some new wheels.

Should be free later Saturday evening if that works better for you. Just let me know.

OK thanks Cotter. If Tourni wants to look at a replay I'll put one up too, I'll take all the advice I can get. I know that I will never beat everyone but I do aim to get some quick times. Since adding you Cotter, I've been trying to beat you while going for my event list completion or rivals events. You are one quick racer. Tuning tips are always welcome too. I prefer a semi-soft suspension. Cotter, I'll let you know about Sat. Is there any particular night where everyone just kinda gets together and races for fun? I don't want to just jump in one of the club members rooms for 2 reasons 1: could be an important race or something. 2: I don't want to jump into a room where I know no one without being invited first. Anyways. I'll let you guys know. I'll try to have a replay up in my SF in the morning.....maybe. depends on work.

First off. Here's my phoone #...615-969-7675

Shoot me a text when you are ready to have a session & I'll get loaded up.

Secondly...Don't ever hesitate to jump into a room if you see one going. everyone is always welcome. Plus you'll never get to know anyone unless you race with them. Don't ever worry about screwing up someone elses race. Everyone understands that accidents happen. Besides, 90% of the time we're running without damage anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.

Hi Tourni, would love to get some of your time if that's ok with you, I really enjoyed my first night of racing with you guys tonight, despite being at the back of the pack for most of the races, it will still the most fun I have had in Forza to date, so refreshing in comparison to the online hoppers!

Thanks Sam

Sure, I tailed you for a while to see what you were like.  Not that much to work on really, just some basic concepts to help you go faster :)

Cotter I'll shoot you a text as soon as I get done doing my running around to get a session going. Hopefully I'll make it back in time. My number will be an 810 number (Michigan) though I live in NJ. Just a heads up. As for joining other people. I did have a number of races with another fellow club member last night. He was a 2oFc fellow newcomer as well. I saved some decent replays last night for Tourni's replay purposes. They are saved in my SF with the names Forza8 and 9 (i think), if the names are off, they were uploaded last night. Keep in mind that I do race with a controller so some of my movements are a little jumpy during steering. I realized looking at my own replays that I need to tune my caster, camber, and tire pressure on both cars a little more.  Cotter I'll let you know. Thanks again guys.

Just finished my session with Cotter. Thanks Cotter for helping me. Like I said, I don't need too much, but I learned areas where I do need work. Now, I think I'll be more confident in racing against others in the club. At least I know where I stand vs Cotter. Kinda gives me an idea where I might stand vs others. I recommend that everyone take some sort of lessons from these 2 guys. They know what they are doing. Whether your a complete beginner up to someone like me who has played and completed every Forza game to date. Everyone needs someone looking from the outside in to see what you can improve on. Even the "Your doing ok, you ran a perfect line through that part" gives you the confidence you need to continue bettering yourself. Thanks again Cotter.

Thanks for the feed back Cooter. Glad you enjoyed your training session, Cotter is an excellent tutor.

I should point out that we run race school on a 1v1 basis, one drivers training is very different to another.

Its often just small adjustments needed for each person, the most common one is learning to manipulate the track to your advantage.

I had a session with Tourni yesterday and it was excellent, I learned a lot :)  You have a great way of getting across the information and it was also brilliant fun, and we managed to gain a few seconds on my laptime at Infineon.  Unfortunately I didn't get any time last night to get back on and practice, and I am now struggling to find those extra seconds again, but I will practice a bit more today!

Cheers Sam

Just remember Sam, keep the car stable on the turn in so you can hit your apex - the rest of the track will fall into place :)

Glad you enjoyed it - T

Tourni, I know you guys run 1v1. I hope you didn't find it intrusive that I sat in on the last portion of your training session with Sam. I actually learned just from sitting in the lobby listening to you coach him through Infineon. I actually knew what turns you were at and could visualize the turns, braking points, hell, even the rumble strips without even phsically seeing the track. I actually chose both Road Atlanta and Infineon Indy for my training session with Cotter partly because of you. Both tracks offer 2 different ranges of turns and really push drivers to fullfill those ranges. Everything from pain-in-the-ass chicane to high speed smooth turns and hairpins. Like I said I learned, just from sitting and listening.

Not at all - it was for the benifit of others who are looking for some training :)  Naming sections of a track for your own reference is a great way to remember them, silly names like pain-in-the-ss chicane reminds you that you've gotta hit apexs dead on!

Had a couple of hours practice today and managing to get consistant clean laps at around the target times we talked about now, so something must have sunk in :)

But you have to admit, that chicane on Infineon Indy is a monster. Could you imagine that chicane in a lobby full of people not knowing what they were doing? Do I smell trouble, dirt, and car parts in the air?

It's going to be a rough 1st few laps if people aren't careful. that's for sure.

Right now I race no assists, manual w/ Clutch.

Love some help,

Chris

Sounds good. just hit me up mate.

Might I also suggest that you do a session with tourni as well. we both have radicaly different teaching styles, & he usually does a better job of trying to explain racing concepts. My style tends to me a little more A.D.D. oriented lol.
