No worries dude. Maybe monday evening sometime then. Feel fre to take church up on his offer too. It never hurts to get input from dfferent people. We all aproach racing differently, so it's really a matter of helping you learn the basics. We can have you going a lot faster in pretty short order. It's when you start trying to shave tenths of a second when things get more difficult & simply require more time in the seat.

Kepp racing in our lobbies. We expect mistakes from the newer guys, & give you a little extra slack in return. Just keep driving & eventually things will start to make more sense.

In the meantime, try to concentrate on drivng & being as smooth as possible with your inputs. Work on driving at a "comfortable" pace for you. If you'll do that & focus on consistency instead of speed, then the speed will come of it's own accord with practice.

Your not pestering me at all. Glad to help as we all are.

As Cotter says its all about driving smooth and within your own pace, once you have mastered that you will find your lap times will drop. Personally, i think your trying too much, just concentrate on hitting your apex's at your own speed and not mine or any of the front runners. If you hit every apex you can then work on braking later and carrying more speed into the corner, until then just go at your own pace and be patient.

I took what you said on board last night, and shock horror (actually to my major surprise) my lap times did start tumbling, i even found myself more consistent while racing than when hot lapping (cant work that one out).  Dont think i caused more than 1 avoidable accident all night either.

I can try and hop on for your session with Pizzy and whoever else, or if the evening is better I can probably do that.

I'll be on cotter, i'll get you a f/r request sent out.

Snoop, im clearly no expert, but from following you (alot) last night in the mazdas, you seem to be getting on the power really early, dont remember many corners where your back end didnt kick out as soon as the car started turning. Thats just my 2 pennies though

That may be true mate but i have no speed out of the corners, my gear changes are sloppy and i basically just cant keep up. and the reason the back end didnt come out was i slowed so much going in i needed to get what power i could getting back out, either that or im just trying to run with the faster guys. To no success may i add

Its just practice Snoop. Concentrate on your race and not running at the front of the pack. The Mazda's are a good car to practice with. Concentrate on hitting your apex's, if you hit them right you get the power on mid corner. Start off slow and build the speed up. Dont try to be the fastest, try to be consistant. If the faster guys are say hitting a 1:05 a lap try to consistantly hit a 1:07, you will find then the times will start to come down a tenth at a time. If you push too hard you will miss your apex and go wide which is what you were doing last night when i followed you, but for a while you were holding your line and keeping me behind you.

Practice. Practice. Practice!

Yep, i was trying really hard to get within 2 seconds (mostly) of Max, gave up after he told me i was trying too hard (see post 4 or 5 above) and i ended up being within 1ish seconds mostly last night.  Also, ive tried practicing on 1 track with 1 car and trying every corner in multiple ways.  Turn 1 at Atlanta had me stumped, then i tried hitting the turn and brake at the same time, downshifted twice and it shaved over a second off my lap and i did it every time without fail, and i really aint very good.

If you see me on man, gimme a shout, im more than willing to practice with you, we seem fairly well matched yesterday

One more thing...If you guys haven't watched the videos in this thread. It's a video series from I-racing, but all of the same concepts still apply. give them a look before todays session if you get a chance.

As we have had a few new guys join the club recently i wanted to offer my services to the race school. So if i can help in anyway to improve your driving to bring your lap times down or help with running in traffic then send me a message to arrange a day and time.

This is not just for the new members, this is open to everyone. So if you need help on a particular track or corner, or just want to find those few extra seconds then send me a message.

Thanks for the link.

I'm currently lapping Silverstone for the BTCC in October. But my lap times (1.36)  are falling way short of the previously mentioned times (1.28) for the course. I've tried several cars: Ford Focus RS, VW Golf GTi, BMW 135i and the Audi A4. All have been modified to operate within the rules and regulations of the competition i.e. 350 BHP, racing brakes, etc. And all have been tuned with mixed results.

I'm really struggling to perfect the tuning side of things. Actually, I'm really struggling to even understand the tuning side of things. Toe in/out, camber, castor... the list goes on and on. Anyway, I digress, I need some basic pointers for tuning -- mainly to improve handling. After I'm happy with that side of things I'll be more adventurous with tuning.

So the main areas I'd like some advice in are:

  • Silverstone tips.
  •
  • Basic tuning tips and advice.
  •
  1. Best upgrades to use for something like the aforementioned BTCC on here.
