Last Television Update (for Now)

So... I didn't get another television. With Halo: Reach around the corner, I won't need the television to capture game footage from it thanks to the theater. So I bought Modern Warfare 2 for the PC from which I can capture with Fraps, use the Hava for Reach and then worry more about it in November when Black Ops drops. I spent $60 today (haven't bought the map packs yet but those can wait) instead of the $340 I had initially spent, and I already have one game I feel comfortable enough to upload.

Mini Update

So despite the fact I got some great help from the ARXV guys and I did get the TV to speed up some, I still opted to return the television and try to replace it with a television that at least had the game mode option.

So I pack up the box, put it in the car, drive the hour to the nearest Best Buy...

only to find out I didn't put the power cable in the box. They wouldn't take it back.

To add insult to injury - they also don't carry replacement power cables for the electronic devices they sell.  Really?

New 26" TV

So I want to get into doing some game capturing with my peeps at ARXV.  Originally I had a 23" LG 1080p Monitor:

It worked beautifully, has 3 connections - hdmi, dvi and vga.  But it seems the more common Capturing devices use componant which it didn't support.  So I upgraded to a 26" 1080p Television:

WASD? Try ESDF!

I was reading through the latest edition of PC Gamer a week or so ago and I read a letter sent into the editor from a man and his son who complained about WASD being the default configuration for games, stating that he thought by moving it over to ESDF it gave you more access to keys among other things. It definitely got my curiosity up so I decided to remap the game I was currently playing, which was battlefield bad company 2. So here's the default layout for bad company 2:

My opinion of Bad Company 2 Campaign

So, I finished the Bad Company 2 Campaign yesterday. I'm sure I'm behind everyone else but in case there are some of you that are not sure if they really want to buy this title or not I thought I'd try to give some spoiler-free info on my opinion of the Campaign.

MMO gear based class changing

I was flipping through the October 09 issue of PC Gamer this morning and came upon the article about Star Trek Online. If I'm reading correctly, STO doesn't have set classes but instead your classes are determined by the gear you pick up along the way.  I've played two mmo's in my lifetime, one called Rappelz from which I was a champion (tank) and World of Warcraft where I tried out most classes but ultimately ended up as a Mage (Damage).  Both mmo's you started as a class and unless you paid ($25 in Rappelz, coming soon in WoW) you were that class from beginning to end.

Bungie did Halo (PC) so right...

Probably the game I've spent the most time in as an adult is Halo 1 for the PC. Something you console guys may not be aware of but the PC version has public server based multiplayer... I've read that the console version only allowed private party multiplayer? Anyway, I've put thousands of hours into that game and was still playing it up until I bought Halo 3 and my 360 back in September of 2008.
