Who needs reality when you have tv?

It wasn't that long ago that I looked down my nose at reality tv. I think it was the crap I was exposed to on MTV that started it. The Real World? Not really. I never really got into Survivor (still don't care for it) and Big Brother didn't hook me either. Then I caught the 2 part season 1 finale of The Apprentice. I was hooked by the coifed one, as well as the villainy (and stupidity) of some the contestants, especially Amarosa. Next thing I knew I was buying the full season on dvd when it came out not long after and watched it for a few seasons still until I couldn't take it anymore.

Hans and Frans

Finally have a weekend with my son for the first time since late May.  He's going into his senior year and has been swamped with wrestling and football camps, and with him living 150 miles away its been tough to find a weekend that worked.  As much as I wanted him to visit I didn't want to force him to miss out on things that would benefit him in the longrun so we just bit the bullet.  Fortunately the family he's staying with were able and willing to get him up here this past Wednesday night, so its been a good last couple of days.

Trainer time

I should have mentioned last time that I had scheduled a session with a trainer for this morning.  As I mentioned I've had 3 shoulder surgeries (which is why I quit lifting before) so last week when I got to my shoulders/traps workout it didn't quite feel right and I wasn't comfortable with the old way I used to do things.  It just seemed like a good idea to ask for help, and as such I scheduled a session with a trainer at 7 this morning.  Normally I'm in the gym a little after 6 but this was the earliest the guy took appointments.

Over agressive training methods

I posted this on the 2oldfortwinkies clan page and thought I'd repost it here. Just something I've been thinking about lately:

I haven't watched a lot of Biggest Loser, but the little I have seen left an impression of far too aggressive training methods for the people that are training.  Generally the contestants on this show are morbidly obese (correct me if I'm wrong, like I said I haven't watched much of it) so it makes me wonder why they would take this boot camp approach from the beginning.

Beyond! (lolz)

I was just looking at the NPD charts for June game sales and was startled to see this:

The single step

First day of lifting is in the books!  I went Saturday and Sunday to the gym just to do some cardio (45 on the treadmill) and to get my feet wet there, feel a little comfortable.  Today was the big one though, the actual weight training.  I haven't picked up a weight (or been in a gym) for 10 years.  In those 10 years I've had 3 shoulder surgeries, herniated a disc, and have dealt with both sleep apnea and hypothyroidism.  The end result from a physical standpoint was me becoming a trainwreck.
