The single step

First day of lifting is in the books!  I went Saturday and Sunday to the gym just to do some cardio (45 on the treadmill) and to get my feet wet there, feel a little comfortable.  Today was the big one though, the actual weight training.  I haven't picked up a weight (or been in a gym) for 10 years.  In those 10 years I've had 3 shoulder surgeries, herniated a disc, and have dealt with both sleep apnea and hypothyroidism.  The end result from a physical standpoint was me becoming a trainwreck.

So yeah, got the first one in.  Did chest and triceps today, felt pretty good except it turns out they don't have any hammer decline press machines which is a bummer.  I saw a decline bench I could've dragged over to the Smith rack but at this point I don't think hanging upside down while trying to manuever weight (regardless of how light) is a good idea.  Down the line I'll get to it though.  The workout itself was a little slower paced than it will be eventually, that was mainly because I wasn't familiar with which machines are where.  I'm going to use mostly machines this time out, very little free weights and when I do use free weights they will be light.  The idea is to control the range of motion because of those shoulder surgeries (thats how I wound up needing them to begin with!) and avoid injury.  I'm also piecing together the workout as I go.  I have a general idea of what I want to do, its just a matter of remembering particular movements.  Topped it off with another 45 on the treadmill so I was out of there in about 90 minutes.

I think the best part of this so far is that my son told me that he's proud of me for getting back into this.  That meant a lot, actually.  Tomorrow is another day, I'm just hoping I didn't overdo it and won't be knotted up with cramps later lol.
