Microsoft announces 'essentials pack' for 360

Seems like a pretty good deal for anyone buying a 360 for the first time or a 2nd/spare system.

Just in time for the upcoming holiday rush, Microsoft has posted news of a new accessory pack, which will wrap up almost everything you need to accompany a new Xbox 360 into one $79.99 kit. The Xbox 360 Essentials pack will include a wireless controller, a media remote, an HDMI cable, and a three-month Xbox Live Gold membership.

Microsoft says you can save a full $55 by buying these items in the pack rather than separately, which does make us wonder where exactly they're shopping. But if you're giving a 360 this year (or know someone who's getting one and could use some extra gear), this might make a nice package under the celebratory symbol of your respective holiday.

I say skip the media remote and sub a play/charge kit. Then again, that media remote is nice when you actually use it.

Given microsoft's shifted focus in turning the 360 into an internet cable box, it's not surprising they chose to include the remote over play and charge.

not to the remote and no to the P&C. i have a remote its called a contoller. the play and charge kit i have used before and i just went with the quick charge kit and i have 3 batteries. as for the HDMI I go to new egg for mine. BUT

estimate

wirelss controler: $40

HDMI cable $3-10

3 month membership $20

its not a terrible deal but MS is definatly not trying to sell this package to us. they are selling it to mom and dad who dont know better or the "i bought the xbox for media not gaming" people
