PTR,

Wow, what a differance!

Went from a 1.29 around Cataluna to a 1.25 on my first attempt and then nipped away at it until I got into the 1.24's when I realised that it was a 6 speed box and not a 4 speed... .Not bad at all for my rather 'exuberant' driving style and looking forward to spending more time on other tracks to improve.

Didnt have a huge amount of time last night but was intrigued as to the differance in damper settings more than anything else when I did a quick comparison. Are you around over the weekend for a chat and drive?

P.

Nice!  5 second improvement with what was essentially a re-tuning.  The build changed very little.

What time are you normally online?  My time is really random, but if I see you when I'm online I'll fire over a party chat request and we'll run the car around.

I've gotta say I was really impressed with the car, and if you hadn't asked me to tune that one I probably would never have driven it.  Thanks!

I thought I'd step into the shallow end and run Knight with something more his speed... cheeky He does go on about FWD, no? I call her "Nellie".

D class...

If you're running FWD in A, I don't see why you can't drive RWD in A? For me FWD stops at C, B in rare instances...RWD is just faster...

Paps, is gonna kill us for hijacking his thread...

Nah, I agree with you.  The problem with the majority of FWD cars is the tire upgrades; they just don't come that wide.  Look at your typical A class RWD cars, and you'll see a lot of them come with rear tires that are or can be made 300+ mm wide.  Those rear tires are only responsible for putting down power, and their share of the cornering load.  The fronts are only used for cornering, and even the fronts on a lot of A class cars can be in the 275mm wide range.

On a FWD car the fronts to ALL the work, they have to split the cornering forces with acceleration forces during the transition phases of cornering.  The backs are very under worked as they are literally only responsible for a small amount of cornering force.  All of this coupled with tires that, if you're lucky, are around 245mm wide.

If you tried the A class hatchback challenge a couple weeks ago, and tried a FWD configuration, you know it's not easy to get the power down.  It's a very steady slow feed just to keep the tires hooked up.  Way too much effort for little reward.

OldSchool: Thanks for the paint mate!  Gonna throw my numbers on it, and we'll hoon them around the track soon cool  In testing I was running times good for top 300 at Silverstone Int.

Until you can throttle steer RWD is just a exersise in frustration, yes I'm sure...well know it has all kind of advantages, but as that skill is still evading me, as a RWD driver I am uncompetitive...As a FWD driver I can hold my own against most, other than the Aliens and very best pro's. so at the moment that is where I am having the most fun. Time will come when throttle steer is in my tool kit and things will change. I no longer shy away from RWD so one of these days the penny will drop.

Don't get me wrong, FWD cars are fun.  I drive them all the time.  Just not in the higher classes.  In the lower classes (car dependant) they are a blast!
