Positive Things added in FM5
Positive Things added in FM5
OK, so with all the bashing, I thought perhaps people could post something new or different that is a positive addition for FM5. This isn't me not wanting to bash the lack of features or my disappointment.... I just want to point out anything new or cool.
If you can name some, great!
1) You can now disable ghosts in Rivals mode!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!
2) Some corners seem to be a little more forgiving as to not be considered dirty. It seems (limited testing) that you get more lee-way on tracks than all other FMs before.
3) Benchmarking in real time when building and tuning is pretty nice.
4) The new controller just makes the whole experience seem better to me. Not really a FM5 thing, but I am sure it goes hand in hand.
5) Overall, I like the feel of driving. It does seem more fluid.
6) Rivals Mode now has all classes and tracks in the mode iteself. Kinda cool to keep the lap times under one main area in the game.
Anyway............
I know with each pro there probably is a con too, but hey, I am trying to be positive here.
cheers!
:D
Totally agree sir by the way don't be afraid to join any the invites we send you :-)
I love how they reinvinted the single player side of it. One thing that always drove me nuts in FM4 was during a season you would do one race in say a Class D and then suddenly the next race would be a Class A. So was constantly having to go buy and tune cars. I love how now you get one car and go through the series with it.
Visiuals are damn nice too. I didn't think it would matter that much when announced but seeing more of the crowd along the tracks makes the tracks feel like their alive.
I like the feedback in the controller. I started responding to the triggers and it has helped me. Throttle vibrates let off a little and get traction back. Brake vibrates let off a little and stop the skid.
I actually like the menu system too. Don't know exactly what it is but I do like it.
A big plus too for me is the forzavista. I actually enjoy getting to look at each car I have and click on all the info spots.
I also liked how they change the wheel selection menu. You now can see all the different rims at once without having to click on each maker's logo to see thier rims.
I think this was pretty positive.

I dont have the game yet (waiting for the phone call to announce my XB1 and Forza 5 is in) but having watched the live twitch.tv and posts on here i am looking forward to the extra layers in paint. This is a big thing for us painters and i for one have painted replicas and have run out of layers in FM4 and have had to make changes and make the replica look right.
Agreed. The paint booth looks to be nicer. At least in the options available to us. I still hope for painting of glass in future FM's but won't get my hopes up.
And the paints look great on cars since the mapped graphic has higher resolution than FM4.
The downside to FM5 painting is, if you are adept at painting and can manipulate the layers, select/deselect, move things around, etc. the response is rather slow. You have to select, wait until the command executes, then do the next command, wait, etc. It is a bit annoying because it slows you down.
Another annoyance is you cannot hold down d-pad to scroll the decals in place; it only takes one (1) click at a time. Stick is used for scrolling (no change there), and d-pad for fine movements/rotations 1 click at a time.
Further annoyance is there is no zoom function (have not found it yet). I use zoom alot for fine, detailed decal placements. This is a bummer.
But the end result of the paint, is glorious.

This one is still work in progress.

If you are a tuner/tester, you are in for a treat.
Which car were you driving, BTW? Brakes are VERY touchy and tires seem to have more resolution at/beyond its traction limit. I drove like a mess too in the first few inaugural races.
I was driving the S2000. I messed around with it last night a bit and started to get the hang of it with the controller but I'm still very slow (even slower than normal with my wheel/pedals
) I'm waiting for some more input from Ink on what he thinks of the Thrustmaster as a fellow Fanatec user on FM4 and then I'll decide if I want to drop another $400 on a wheel or not.
On a positive note, I totally love the graphics and the in car driving view imuch better than FM4 (I usually resort to hood view in FM4, so I can see where I'm going). I can see myself playing FM5 as a "single player" type of game, but won't be giving up my FM4 rig anytime soon until there's more/better support for club racing/sharing/colab in FM5.
To get back on the "Posotive Side"..you can draft a car and not get a dirty lap
I don't think so... Only difference I've noticed is drafting started at 80mph in FM4 and I believe it's 100mph in FM5.
Drafting starts at 100mph in FM4 as well. I watched it happen many times while racing. 98, 99, 100, "blinking triangle".
I did not YET see any changes to drafting dirty lap in FM5. I had an AI follow me and got the lap dirty.
You know what happened in FM3 (or was it FM2)! They exploited the drafting to get faster LB times.
What I am really GLAD about is that the "off-track" incident close to the end of the track resulting in next lap dirty has been significantly improved. Bugatti, for example, would dirty the next lap if you missed the esses; it no longer does that.
Penalty for running a little wide at corner exits is much more lenient but cannot short-cut corners.
@GRD i think you can zoom, when i was watching on twitch tv the guy was zooming in and out
Thank you for the response! I'll look for it.
One other positive. Watching videos when you change brakes you can actually see a visual change on the car.
Also to a gearhead familiar with many of these "upgrade parts" in real life I really appreciate the updates in appearance and realism in the upgrade garage.
GRD you have to press in on I believe the left stick to zoom. Took me a bit to find that.
Thanks, Ammo, was delighted to finally be able to zoom. What on odd place to place the function. I don't like how they mapped the controls, but I am just glad I can now zoom.
Gizmo, I am glad that you like the Fiesta ST . . . but there will be an alternate version of it . . .
Loving that fiesta st livery
im liking the game overall, finding it more difficult with the controller but i will get there
