Hey guys, just trying to keep up with all the discussion lately, and it seems like a good group of people (myself included) would be interested in some Halo 3 customs or matchmaking. With the game being free from 10/16-10/30 I'd expect a pretty decent bump in player population for matchmaking, so this could be fun.
I'm going to attempt to start hosting a (semi) regular customs/MM night for H3 for anyone who is interested. I think people are most accustomed to the Thursday night time slot, so I'll try making a "side party" of 6-8 people to run some 3v3, 4v4, or FFAs. I have all of the MLG v6 gametypes and maps, along with standard variants and a few wacky gametypes and maps for shits n giggles.
I haven't played H3 with any regularity for a few years, so if you can put up with me sucking until I get my legs back, let's have some fun!
This week Thursday won't work, but I could do Wednesday around 8 PM central (that's usually a good time for me), I'll shoot for next Thursday around the same time too. My GT is Ders (zero)ne if you're interested, I'm also on a number of people's FLs and the FoF FL as well.

Are you going to limit the party size to 8 or will you adjust accordingly?
i just might have to look into picking up a used copy since my disc is crap.
right. when they made it free in the marketplace i downloaded it.
the dlc doesn't work with the free version though. it says that the content is for a different version of Halo3.
unless they adjust the playlists, everyone using the free version will be limited to social slayer, rumble pit, and lone wolves.

I could probably be tempted to start really playing H3 again in a feeble attempt to get my rank into the 40s. That's right, the 40s, don't judge me...lol
Actually sitting down with friends and playing ranked TS as we try to inch up our rank was some of the best fun in Halo. I'd have to really start playing again to have any hope of ranking up though, as I'm older and slower than when I used to play a lot.
Anyway, I would be interested in some H3 customs or MM if I'm available to play.
Zombie, I was throwing Wednesday out as a feeler this week to see if people are interested, but will try and do it on Thursday in following weeks.
I wouldn't necessarily cap parties at 4, I would think we could go all the way up to 8 per team if the interest is that high, although my recollection of hosting big matches in halo 3 says that it usually doesn't work so well once you get that big in a custom match. There's also not many large maps in halo 3, though we could use many of the medium sized maps for 6v6 ala squad battle.
Darth, no shame in your rank, it's all about the journey. ;) I too had my best halo playing times trying to claw and scratch to get a 45 in team slayer, playing for hours on end with friends and hoping that you would see your rank tick up magically after each win. Such good memories, I'd like to try it again at some point but I'm not good enough to play even at that level right now. Hopefully I can get that 35 in lone wolves up a bit!
I'm definitely up for playing the MLG variants and will begrudgingly play a game of the BTB stuff here and there :)
can someone post a link to where it's been said that the DLC won't work with the free gold version of H3?
I don't see why it wouldn't, I'm also confused as to how wamam got it free previously, perhaps there was a separate promotion? In either case if it doesn't work I would think re-downloading the DLC should solve any license disagreement issues.
I'll play. I'm also bad, I haven't played it much.

With only one post on our clan forum in the morning, I got a lot of people to play H3 last night. A few non clannies from the site joined too. We had 16 for a while! So you should have good luck getting a decent sized party going!

are you primarily doing the MLG variants and small map gametypes tonight?
If it turns in to BTB customs, I would not be unopposed to dropping out and running some MM in the smaller playlists. Probably not MLG or Ranked Slayer, as my skill will be sorely lacking, but something in the smaller playlists would suit me just fine.
Hopefully I'll be able to make it online tonight.
