GT5 career a grind? That's the understatement of the year. Parcells got close to finishing FM2's career but barely put a dent in the careers of FM3, FM4 and GT5 and thank god I didn't have to.

I think Sarcasmo is starting to accept Parcells :)

GT5's career mode is definitely a grind, in part because it has two 24 hour races, one at Le Mans and one at the Ring, and there is no save feature that allows you to race for a while, save your game, do another series race and then come back to your game save.  Moreover, the higher level series are set such that you need to repeat several of the lower level series multiple times to get the gamer level to qualify for the higher level series.  It's also a pain to get the cars you need for several of the mid to higher level series.  Forza is much more forgiving in this regard.  The seasonal events mitigated this problem, because they have such high experience and monetary payouts.  The license tests in GT5 are not mandatory.  They are just there, but have nothing to do with the career mode.

You make it very difficult for Parcells to poke fun at you when your resort to reason and common sense. Serenity now!

Well I guess I have different views to this coming from the world of flight sim.  With flight sim Microsoft would release a new version every couple of years.  That was it, they released it and there was basically no support after that from them.  So in a way I'm thankful for companies that do DLC.  I know people here see it as a way to milk you for more cash but would you rather they just release the game and never add anything else to it until the next title release?

Second and this is something that isn't possible on the xbox. An industry was pretty much created by people to develope and make addons (DLC) for flight sim that you could buy and add to the software.  You want a really nice 737 go to the PMDG website, its 69.99, FSX was only $50.00.  So this DLC is more than the entire game cost for just one aircraft.

WIth flight sim as in racing there is a group of people that want it to be as close as possible to the real thing.  Anything less is an arcade game and not worthy to be installed.  Screw the casual or beginers, it has to be real or its shit.

I just see a trend where it is easier to pick apart a game title because it doesn't have exactly what YOU wanted and thought should be in the game.  They are trying to sell a game to the masses.  If they make it too much a simulator then you end up pushing casual players away.  If you make it too arcade then you get labled an arcade.  So they have to find a happy middle.

BTW I pretty much only do racing games now becasue MS shutdown their flight sim team after they tried to make the game to casual.  Instead of modeling the entire world like they had in all previous releases they only made the islands of Hawaii.

I dont see anything wrong/inaccurate about your entire post Ammo but why would I care what anybody else wants in a game unless its strictly to give me ideas of what I might want but haven't considered? I'm not buying it for someone else to play.

[EDIT] what I wrote makes sense but in re-reading your statement you're probably just referring to the "trend" that you see which is occurring so ignore my comment if you wish...its societies fault!

Very true indeed Parcells, personnally have been really happy with Forza and can't wait for Forza 5.   I have rFactor and rFactor2, Race07, and iRacing on the pc.  Overall though I prefer playing Forza for the simple fact that I can pick some cars that I would love to own in real life, customize them, attempt to tune them (I suck at it)  and then go race them.

Bingo, that is a huge pro for Forza.  Lots of cars, great tuning options, painting is simple, yet deep and you can race on a lot of awesome tracks.  I expect Forza 5 to continue the trend.

Found this post on FM.net.  Matt Farah interviewed Dan Greenawalt on the Smoking Tire podcast.
http://shoutengine.com/TheSmokingTire/forza-5-196
Listening to it now.  Here's the summary of the interview that was posted on FM.net.

Quote:
All cars from FM4/Horizon that weren't AAA standard were cut and redone.

Drivatar sounds like it's going to be great.
New reverb system with multiple layers(oh yeah!)+7.1 surround sound
No night because of time constraints not technical restraints.
No different tyre compounds.
Ariel Atom and Caterhams seem to be in.
Dan excited about real world tracks.
Tuning and upgrades similar to FM4 with a few additions.
Drag racing still half arsed.
No D1 drifting partnership.
Tyre smoke is more than FM4 but may need to be cut back.
Multiple layers of paint and damage
Car count on track still undecided.(targeting more than ever before)
Offline mode available, Drivatar gets cached every log in to Xbox Live.

Snappy,

It's quite a long podcast (2 hours) and it's structured more like a casual conversation with some FM5 Q&A.  Here's what I could gather about night racing.  These are just Dan's comments.

Quote:
Night was a great investment that was made in the engine on Horizon but when we rebuilt to do...the new cars the new lighting model and the surfaces...not the surfaces the materials we didn't port that over .  A lot of this comes down to timing and rebuilding an engine so those are features..."
"..it's not something we're not interested in..."
"So the issue isn't anything that actually requires performance. You build your content to your performance budget. So you're gonna build a track like Prague to work with the amount of cars the amount of smoke everything that you want and if you wanted to add something like the particles from rain or if you wanted to add the dynamic cast shadows from headlights...multiple projections.  It's not that it's even too much power you just have to take that from something. so what do you take it from?
That takes time. It's not that it's even impossible..."

What was funny was Matt asked if weather or night could be sold as an add-on to the game.

They did ask if night/weather would be in FM6.  Dan didn't make any commitment.  My guess is night racing is a possibility as long as Dan/T10 has the time and resources to tackle it.  Not holding my breath.

Like I said before, I'd rather they waited until after launch of Xbone to make the game better and to be more able to test ability of the new console rather than pushing and cutting to make it to launch day for Xbone. To me launch games get screwed due to the strict date. Just not as good in my opinion. But I may be surprised.....we'll see.

Podcast was recorded during E3. Dan also did an interview with Adam Carolla. Listening to that now. For you track junkies....no Fontana or willow springs.

I really liked the Willow Springs that was in NFS Shift 2 Unleashed.  That could have been a decent game if not for the squishy feeling physics.

I hope I read that wrong...only one tyre compound?

Dan excited about real world tracks...That's good enough for Parcells, I'm in.

It's not that it's even too much power you just have to take that from something. so what do you take it from?...Guess the cloud can't fix everything?

I'm going to guess they're saying only one Race compound? They can't be killing street/sport/etc? Highly doubtful. I think it has been said they've retooled tire wear.

The pics a few pages back has gotta be Turn 1 @ spa :)

iam interested to see where this game ends up, iam a little disappointed that t10 has chosen to cater the masses instead of the racers that made this series. I was really hoping fm5 would fill the gap between consoles racing and the hardcore and just offer that little more options than fm4 but reading some of the post it looks like there doing the opposite :( either way iam sure it will be hella fun and that's all that really matters!

as for new consoles iam sure ill get one for the kiddos but not sure which one yet? I liked the Xbox a lot but iam kinda leaning towards the ps4....guess will see.

regarding the graphics posts ....there's no doubt it will look beautiful and close the gap between consoles and pcs the only advantage of the pcs is more power and the ability to add heavy anti ailliasing to smooth it out and enhance the overall image which brings up the rumor I heard from many during the e3 demo...fm5 was being played on a pc and crashed to the windows home screen during the demo so those beautiful graphics that had us all drooling could of had some heavy AA added so it will be quit interesting to see if the actual gameplay is as sharp and beautiful?

As long as they feature real life tracks and more actual race cars like v8/Dtm/gt ill be happy!

i can deal with no weather and night racing....it's a nice option but like church said it gets old fast

What I want, no NEED, is the ability to use my Fanatec. When, not if, this doesn't happen there wiil be no Xbone in the near future for me. I can't imagine downgrading from my CSP pedals. I'll just have to wait and see what Thrustmaster and maybe (hopefully) Fanatec relese for the Xbone and at witch pricepoint.

Hey guys. The wheel compatability issue looms large over FM5 and I have read some negative comments about Thrustmaster wheels. I am inclined to disagree about that and believe that the T500 RS has gotten some rave reviews. Lawyer, I was wondering if you could cut and paste the review you did to help give some insight. I realize that there is serious opposition to buying a whole new wheel but I'd like to have all of the info.

Here is a clip from the ISR guys:

http://youtu.be/EkgxRNQ7F6g

And a clip of a new GT wheel rim that Thrustmaster came out with:

Hope this helps.
