Imagine running an event at the Nordschelife which is joined to the GP Circuit, like in real life, at night. Then pitting and turning the car over to a teammate. If the day/night cycle could be scaled in the game then a full 24H cycle could be cut down to 2 hours.
They could have at least had night racing for tracks where they do Endurance races i.e. Le Mans, Sebring. You know, places where it made sense. I'm deeply disappointed. Weather, okay, that I can understand. But night racing... I'm heartbroken. I guess they are still hung up on looks to a fault.
The impression I got from Dan is that while FM5 will certainly be a step up from 4 it's really a transitional game that will lay the groundwork for the future Forza titles. It's one thing to get tire data from Pirelli, but I think they're headed to a whole other level working with Calspan. We talk about day/night transitions and weather as separate features but long term I think Dan wants to push the physics to truly interconnect them into overall environmental variables as long as it doesn't compromise their 60 fps or graphics standards.
I can understand that Shaggy. We've known for some time now that T10 does not want to compromise visuals. I'm greatful for that because good visuals help with immersion. Not o mention that I often just ogle the cars in my garage. I just thought that Horizon was the test phase for day/night transitions. I also thought that FM5 would leverage the cloud computing to maximize that process. Instead, they have gone ahead and decided to make the cars look more realistic through imperfections and mimicking minor flaws in the environment and on the cars. Maybe I'll appreciate it when I see it but right now... It doesn't make sense. Oh well.
maybe I'm going through the stages of mourning. LOL
I just watched the FM5 trailer on the 360 dashboard. Gotta say, it's pretty, but it easily could have been a trailer for a new PGR game. I"m kinda bummed. Did not care for the street course in the trailer because it makes me think we're not going to get any/many new real world tracks. And generally, street courses and rovals don't do much for me. The trailer just looked so casual/action/arcade racing with all the drifting and exhaust flame. Meh. I guess you gotta get the masses excited before you drop the real details that only regulars and vets care about.
As far as the Fanatec on the 1 thing goes, I still have hope that my wheel will work. Not that it's a good comparison, but I was still using a Logitech Driving Force (pro?) that I had for PS2 on my PS3 for a while. It worked, mostly. Didn't have the "home" button or whatever that is (like the xbox guide button), but it still worked, turned 900 deg, and had force feedback. So, here's to hoping that all we need to do to use our Fanatec wheels on the 1 is plug in via USB.
No night/weather racing. You guys need to prepare for more disappointment like the lack of SIM racing options we want/expect and especially when the tracks are announced that'll be real disappointing. Parcells is preparing himself.
I still think the fanatec will eventually work with FM5 but if it doesn't the first (and possibly only) thousand will likely go towards a good PC for racing vs. XOne/new wheel
@Parcells - I know GT5 has got it and because of that I am considering picking up a PS3 and GT6 when it releases. I know I will at least try it.
As far as the tracks for FM5. If you watch the E3 trailer "World Famous Circuits" flashes on the screen. Does this hint at an emphasis on adding real world tracks? I hope so.
Wheels, well at this point, I really don't think they will be compatible. Very stupid move by MS and T10 if they are not.
SIM racing options. Who knows but I doubt we'll see much change from what we have now.

Remember FM4, "The offical sim of ALMS"? You could only run a fraction of the cars on an equally small percentage of the actual circuits.....I'm not going to hold my breath. Where's Long Beach, Lime Rock Park, Baltimore, CotA, VIR & Mosport? They've got marketing geniuses working for them that know how to build hype w/o actually providing any details until you actually purchase it.
For you guys, I hope it lives up to the hype. For me, it will be a ways down the road, if at all. The XBone isn't real high on my priority list for this fall (this being the main reason I won't be on FM5 at launch). I may get one eventually, but I'm going to wait until they release and are out for a bit before I make my final decision. I've been getting more and more annoyed w/ the XBL interface with each update, and with the XBone being promoted as a multimedia platform...I suspect it's only going to get worse. I'll probably wind up w/ a PS4 before the XBone, but even that is a ways down the road. I'll probably pick up GT6 this fall, as it's a PS3 release, but that will likely be the only console game I'll be looking at for a bit.
I will likely still be trying to recover the bank account after October's outing to Petit Lemans. A man's got to have his priorities, right?
I know this is a forza forum and hate promoting other games but everything you guys have hoped would be in fm5 and more will be in project c.a.r.s including past wheel support and will be released on x1 , ps4, wii u and the pc version will be even more indepth!
the footage is all in game from the weekly races series held in the beta testing.....best part is its only pre alpha and has tons more to come while having multiple pro drivers like (ben collins The Stig )working with them on feedback for each car.....still has a ways to go but will definitely fill the void for those looking for a more indepth console racer :)

past wheel support so the your saying this will support our fanatecs on the xbox one ?
i would think that would mean that the xbox one supports the fanatec or will that just be the 360 version

kurupt makes a good point. A lot of what we want in Forza 5 is already in Project CARS including incredible graphics, great car selection, including open wheelers, incredibly diverse track selection (two versions of Spa, for example), wheel compatibility across the board, day/night racing and transitions, weather, diverse physics and FFB, triple screen support (at least on PC), large multiplayer lobbies, etc.. I also can tell you that although the graphics are incredible in Forza 5, and yes I am going to buy it, I don't see anything that I already don't get in iRacing, Project CARS or Assetto Corsa in the graphics department.
In summary guys, if you want true sim racing, you gotta switch to PC. If you are looking for simcade racing, then Forza of course is a great way to go.
I was just watching that twitch.tv interview and Dan said there will be dedicated servers and no more peer-to-peer multiplayer so that should make your online races a lot better.
Some news for you Fanatec wheel owners. Thomas is not promising anything yet, but says he is working on making current wheels compatible with the X-Bone.
The Drivatar's will use the person its modeled afters real cars and the paints loaded on them!
Also, the Auction House/Storefronts gone. Apparently anything a painter paints is available ( very unclear here on that, as in, do we post up a paint somewhere? do we actively share a paint?) a nd the more that paint is used on cars actively, the more the painter receives? I dunno exactly how that works, but okay. He says you can actively search for a painter and then pick a apint, but IF there's no storefront where IS this paint, how did it get there, etc? Because I can tell you every painter has some paints they may not want anyone to see...also I wonder if painters will get paid for drivatars using a paint? If my car has my paint and its used on a drivatar for others, will I get paid for the paint? Probably not but apparently I'll make cash from my drivatar simply driving.
He mentioned materials in the customization process, and by that I think he's saying painting, mostly, as he mentioned being able to lay carbon fiber and matt finishes, among others, and I'm really hoping these can be applied on a car at the same time IE brushed aluminum side panels with carbon fiber hood/wing perhaps and slat paint on whats left? I'm gonna start drooling...
I hope the tuning model works as well for players incomes.
This brings up another question, is gifting possible? And if so, would the painter still receive cash, or is it null because it was gifted? So many questions.
No night, no weather, not real bothered there. He did say the new physics engine does leave those doors open down the road. No wheel info other than Thrustmaster/Madcatz so far, but it really looked like he wasn't full up on it and it's far from finalized as in everyone's still working on it IE Fanatec etc.

Power of "The Cloud". What's yours is theirs, and what's theirs is theirs.
GT5 has all of that plus Spa!
No night racing, but daytime running lights.
No weather.
From Q&A with Dan. Thanks for the link Church.
No night or weather doesn't bother me.

yeah, the have info and pics on their news page, I got a notice via Facebook, a couple of the 76 's and some Indy cars, 4 I think.

Great looking IRL car! Very exciting. Great car for a spec series.
Oldschool, I'm hoping those cars aren't to hard to paint. Like some of the R1's in FM4
I hope they put a lower PI open wheel car like a spec racer Ford or something.
If we get Caterhams, I'm good! Love them silly cars.
With ya on the paints, we'll see.
