The always on, instanced world sounds pretty awesome .  It's like a mini MMO with common areas to party up with people i guess and give the world an alive feel.  Plus it'll have a loot finding component kind of like other action RPGs have I guess.  They also hinted at the ability to accumulate credits and buy different ships to travel off world. Wonder how credits will be awarded or if there will be some type of micro transaction thing going on to buy ingame credits with real money.  Given the investment in infrastructure and no fee to play, I am guessing that this game will have a microtransation component.

They officially announced 360/PS3 but they're not saying anything about new consoles.  IT's a 10 year vision though so it probably doesn't make sense to release only on a platform that's gonig to be obsoleted within months before or after the game launches.  I wonder if Microsoft backed up the brink truck and secured an exclusive for 720 launch, that would be a killer app to move new consoles.  Especially if that came out before the 360/PS3 version.

Mass Effect 3 had a little of this with how you could use the iPhone app to play a mini game to keep your Galatic Readiness up. It was pretty neat I used it quite a bit.

Not releasing in 2013:

http://www.vg247.com/2013/02/18/destiny-wont-release-in-2013-activision-confirms/

That sort of explains the lack of in-game footage, but the timing of the announcement yesterday just appears "odd" if the game is so far away.

Wow I love Bungie but preordering a game a year or more out, seems odd.

Guess there goes the thought of a 720 launch title.  Seems kind of odd to release next year though with so much transition in the console market with people migrating from one to another.   On the other hand maybe they'll sell a few more copies as people double tip and buy the 720 version because it'll look better o rhave some feature(s) the 360 version doesn't or maybe there is no back compat on the 720.  who knows.

Kinda wish this were coming to PC though as well.  But i guess they have their hands full learning how to code for PS3/PS4 at this point.

I just got my double sided poster of Destiny from Gamestop when I placed my pre-order.

I did find it odd they partnered with Nvidia to develop a new lighting technology - considering the heavy AMD presence in today's and next gen console graphics chips.

I think it will be a TIMED Xbox exclusive.  I'm basing that on the revelaed contract between Bungie and Activision that stated as much in 2010.  The contract also said that at the time the PS3 was a maybe.  It sounds like from a publisher standpoint, the PS3 is more costly and difficult for developers, and game's don't look as good on it.

I think the lack of a main menu and their huge push for an incredible UI will be great.

That's been known for quite some time, it IS more difficult to program for the Playstation vs the Xbox.  And the Xbox stuff so closely is related to PC that it is reatively easy to port from one to the other if you can deal with the control differences.

I don't know about PS3 not looking as good though, I think they're pretty much on Par.  The graphical difference largely comes down to the experience of the developer on that system.

Yeah, I've not really noticed a large gap between multiplatform games graphics between the PS3 and Xbox 360.  I was just reading through some stuff about that contract between Activision and Bungie that mentioned graphics.  It might simply be in there because Activision figures Bungie has all of its experience in Xbox console development and would have an easier time making the most of that hardware.

Now with regards to next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles with regards to this specific game I thought of a likely scenario.  This game requires an online connection to play - so there will likely be a tie between the game purchase and an account, either an Xbox Live/PSN account or a Bungie specific one.  I'm guessing a bit that if I purchase the game for Xbox 360, I can play my same character on the next Xbox console without a separate game purchase.  I'd just use whatever account credentials would be required.  Now it may also be that if I buy it on Xbox 360, I could log in and play on the Playstation 4 if both Xbox Live and Playstation ID were tied to the same Bungie account.  I'm doubtful buying it on Xbox 360 would allow play on PS3 without a PS3 specific disc though.

Bungie now does allow tying several accounts into one overall Bungie account - Microsoft, Playstation, Google, and Facebook.

Also, as an aside, if you checked out that ARG for Destiny, be sure to head to the final page of it, and do the things listed in the bottom right "note" section.  It will probably unlock some future reward for Destiny, and has a time limit with only four days left to do so.

Simultanious release on PS3 & PS4 with some exclusive content for PS:

http://www.vg247.com/2013/02/21/activision-backing-ps4-big-with-destiny/

The exact quote from Harold Ryan during the presser was:

"at the launch of Destingy, both the PS4 and PS3 versions will be available"

Huge Bungie fan from the days of LAN Marathon and the original Bungie.net with Myth. I really hope Destiny turns out to be a huge success for them. I am concerned a little bit due to Activision's involvement. Time will tell if it all pans out.

It is good though that Bungie will keep the rights to its technology and IP with Destiny.  All the new tools and lighting technology and especially the networking is theirs alone.  So, there's that :)

Eh.  There's nothing here yet.  The cupboard of actual knowledge is pretty bare at this point.  Besides, I got a little burned by ODST and Reach, so I'm very cautiously optimistic.

ODST, really?  ODST was a great campaign, maybe THE greatest.

I have to disagree, ODST was the worst.

I'm looking forward to Destiny. Cant' wait to E3 to get more info about it.

Please explain why ODST campaign was the worst.  I'm assuming it's your opinion because of no Master Chief.  IMO it is the most interesting by far.

The best thing ODST had going for it was all the multiplayer maps on the disc.

So, hype level is up slightly.  So it's Halo Borderlands, from what we've seen.  That's not a bad thing, but it isn't an awesomely amazing thing from what I've seen yet.

I agree with you. The game looks really good, but it didn't look as good as I had expected. That being said, I am definitely going to pick it up.

What I find particularly interesting is that Destiny is going to have its gameplay shown to the world in all its glory at the SONY presentation at E3.

Why do you find that interesting? It really just boils down to $$$$.  They have a deal in place where there is exclusive content only available on the PS3 and PS4

That is why it is interesting then.  Sony has been teetering on the brink of bankruptcy recently, while Microsoft is a company that is actually profitable.  Microsoft has recently spent tons of money to secure deals.  Yet somehow they couldn't get a deal with Bungie even for a bit of exclusive content, or to show a trailer at their show?

Microsoft's deal with the NFL alone is reported to have cost 400 million dollars.  They mentioned at the Xbox One event spending more to ensure exclusives.  Sony liquidated assets including their New York HQ, and a large Tokyo office building just to stay in business.  Yet somehow Sony could spend to get a deal with Bungie... and Microsoft couldn't?

That's why it is interesting to me.

Ah, ok, I get you now.

Maybe Bungie just wanted to "stick it" to MS 106
