Battlefield 3 Premium, update post #15

per battlefieldo

http://battlefieldo.com/threads/bf3-premium-details-the-full-scoop.5782/

This year has been a remarkable year in sales for DICE and EA with Battlefield 3. Last week we first announced the possibility that the previously rumored “Battlefield Premium” feature we had all heard about months earlier could be a reality… We then confirmed that this information would be released at this year’s E3 Press Conference and now we’ve recently come across information through a joint partnership in information sharing with www.battlefield-inside.de , www.battlefield-3.cz , mybattlefield.ru and www.BATTLEFIELDO.com , given to us from a source from within DICE (undisclosed). We’ve seen some pricing information, but at this time do not feel it’s appropriate to speculate and cause any more confusion, as that information becomes more available we will let you know.

Battlefield PREMIUM (most likely a ONE TIME FEE $60 usd)
20 new maps (across all 5 DLCs)
20 new weapons (across all 5 DLCs)
More than 10 new vehicles (across all 5 DLCs)
More than 4 new game modes (across all 5 DLCs)
More than 30 new Assignments (across all 5 DLCs)
More than 20 new Dog Tags (across all 5 DLCs)
World premier: June 4.2012 at 1:00 PM (PST) / 9:00 PM (UTC) - @ E3 Press Event
Two different packages (both include earlier access to DLCs)
Package 1 - BF Premium + B2K
Package 2 - BF Premium + All DLCs

  Update from MP1st

http://mp1st.com/2012/05/25/bf3-more-battlefield-premium-details-surface...

Update 2: coolshop UK lists Battlefield Premium at 34.96 GBP which converts to just under $60.00 as well. (Thanks, Colonel Ramirez.)

Update 1: Danish retailer coolshop lists Battlefield Premium at 369 Danish Kones which converts to around $60.00 USD. The description translated reads:

These maps, weapons, vehicles game modes assignments and dog tags are spread across the following DLC:

  • Back to Karkand
  • Close Quarters in June 2012
  • Armored Kill in Fall 2012
  • Aftermath in late 2012
  • End Game in Spring 2013  (note End Game and Aftermath DLC may be in the WRONG order)

so EA/DIce continue their quest to make Battlefield more like Activision/COD with their COD Elite $service.

the 5 DLCs, weapons, modes, etc INCLUDE BTKs so you are really getting 4 DLCs x $15 = $60

unless they price it at $50 usd to compete with COD Elite, then you save $10.

of course if the DLC becomes watered down crap maps like COD dlc then it's no bargain at all.

EDIT: JohnnyHustler has a Joystiq link on post #15 that says Pricing will be $50 usd and include 2 week early DLC access and other stuff.

I'm sure EA will confirm/deny BF Premium Details at E3 this coming week.

I would really pay it in a blink of an eye, if this played anything like BC2.

But it does not, so I'm really quetsioning if to pay up.

Unfortunately, I agree with you Ekattan. I can't find any reason to justify sinking another $60 into this game. I'd rather save the money and buy a new game. Really kind of sad because I loved BC2 and had high hopes for this one. Just too much wrong with it.

I didn't play BC2 much, as I got started with it way too late and was hopelessly behind on weapons & map knowledge. What is different from BC2 to BF3? I know the choppers were a nightmare in BC2.

Rush Gametype was almost all I played. Maps like Afrika Harbor, Port Valdez, Oasis or Valparaiso were just some of the great maps you could play. You also had Harvest Day which was a brilliant map for Tank Warfare.

Weapons felt more powerful because of hit detection. Its hard to explain, but weapons felt like they worked.

Also Destruction 2.0 was amazing. Taking out a building filled with enemies with C4 was so freaking gratifying. Bringing a building down to destroy an MCOMM. Destruction actually played into the game.

Also classes were much more balanced you could make as much points as a sniper as an engineer woould now on Bf3. Snipers had mortar strikes, C4. Medics had paddles and LMG's. Assault had ammo. Engineers were engineers. All I play in Bf3 is Engineer, its the most powerful class.

Anti-aircraft stationary weapons were actually located in useful spot. In Bf3 they only defend against spawn camping air vehicles.

Tanks required skill.

Quad Bikes.

Knifing worked. period.

A little late for this isn't it?  Something like this would have been a good idea at release.  But for someone like me who has pretty much put this aside for except for the odd clan night it makes no sense at all.

I don't get why they waited so long to do this. I'll probably be getting the first DLC in June, but after that I'm done. By the time the second DLC comes along, it'll be time for new games to start coming out. I'll be passing on this service. Seems like something they should've offered from the start.

I got all the BC2 DLC the day it came out. This I can take or leave. Can someone tell me if I already have B2K, do I actually save money compared to buying all the new DLC separately?

How do you not know if you have Back 2 Karkand? Did you buy the game new when it came out? Have you played on Omen, Karkand, Wake Island, or Sharqi? Do you have assignments?

If yes, then yes wink

I personally feel that BF3 does not play as well or as smooth. For me it's alot of small things such as the hit detection is awful, claymores don't work half the time, etc that add to make the game not fun. I'm not a technical person so I don't know all the problems, but they are there if you play the game long enough to recognize them. The game does not play consistent from one match to the next. There are also some game play mechanics that are different from BF2 (squad leader spawn only, prone, missles and grenades that dissappear after you die) that I am not crazy about. I also think the the maps in BC2 are far superior to the maps we have in BF3.

The CQB maps may change my mind, but I would prefer to see a game patch come out.

I played BBC2 more than all of you and I promise you it had its issues as well! I am a sub par player at best in BF3, but somehow I manage to be at the top or near it every single match. Even when I play alone, core, or hardcore! In other words if I can be  somewhat successfull at the game anyone can!  I am way better at this version of BF than I ever was at BBC2! Dont get me wrong the game has its issues, but you simply cant be one dimentional with this version and expect to be successfull! Adapting your playstyle and loadouts is everything in this version. With another patch and DLC coming in the next couple of weeks. lets hope they can correct some of the more prevalent issues! ( Hit detection and the paper tanks is the main fix for me)

It's not about being successful. I can be successful in any given match. The problem is how inconsistent the game play is. It's turned what should be a fun game into a frustrating experience. If I wanted that I would have kept MoH. I also don't think changing loadouts really changes much with inconsistent game play.

Like I said, I'll try the next map pack and patch. If it stays the same, I'm moving on to something else.

Like Spartan said, it's not about being succesful. Its about how fun and fulfilling the game is.

I mentioned I used to love playing different classes on BC2, now I only play Engineer. Classes are not well balanced.

Maps in BF3 were primarely intended for PC, larger number of players, and Conquest. BC2 maps were catered for consoles, 24 players and Rush specifically.

I don't hate everything about BF3. Javelin > Tracer darts. Love dedicated servers. Absolutely love customizable weapons w/ attachments.

Joystiq is reporting that it's $50, and that Premium subs get priority access to servers and two weeks early access to DLC.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/report-battlefield-3-premium-service-costs-50-one-time-incl/

Thanks EA, for killing this one for me as well with a BS paid for perk.  Guess it's off to GRFS and Halo for me.

Wow! Don't really know how I feel about that. THere really can't be anything better than being the guy that paid $60 for the game like everyone else and then get's bumped out of a que because someone else paid an additional $50 to get preferred server access. Sounds like a sure fire way to split the BF community.

The future of gaming looks bad with this kind of revenue model in place. I really hope the BF3 premium service turns out to be something better than that crap.

I do not like the fact that you can reset your stats and start over on MP!!!!!!I Now that is some serial BULLSHIT! Besides that if you pay for a premium service , why should you not get a few extras? What they are offering will not make anyone any better or worse at the game.. Its mostly customizations, and 2 weeks early access to future DLC.

Your right, a premium service should give you extras. There is nothing premium about giving out maps 2 weeks early (everyone is going to get them anyways), Exlusive XP weekend (who gives a fucK), and preferred qeue status (total BS to your buddies that want to play with you but get kicked from a qeue).

I still hate the fragmentation of the player base into haves and have nots via who gets DLC and when.  Go the Gears route and give a discount and some perks, but staggered releases are BS.  Plus, the reports from a few weeks ago that there were fewer public servers, combined with this priority access is garbage.  Plus, exclusive XP events?  Again, splitting the player base into haves and have nots.  I'm not going to spend nearly as much as the game itself to get better access or more XP.  I hope EA and Activision tank, I'm done with them trying to nickel and dime me to death.

I don't care about early access and exclusive crap but considering I will probably buy all DLC, it's still a discount, 4000 points instead of 4800 or 6000 if you don't have B2K yet, right?

I did Elite with CoD.  Look at how great that is.  I'm done prepaying for promised DLC.  I'll pay for the shit when it actually shows up.  Also, let's not talk about spliting the community.  Nothing sucks worse then getting early access with DLC but having to exclude people from playing because they don't have it.  It sucked with COD and I can't imagine EA and BF3 getting it right either.

well at least it is limited to only 2 weeks. Correct me if I am wrong but, wasn't elite time frame a month or longer? Not trying to hate on anything, just making an observation.

The prefered que thing is kind of meh. I mean if you own the server or your buddy owns the server he is going to drop randoms to let you in anyway. You can get drop from a current server right now just as easily as getting bump from someone having premium.

I am hoping they do offer more bang for your buck with some more details announced at E3. I am 50/50 on this as well. This is the first game (other than the Halo's) I have kept around for a while and not turned in for store credit, but with Borderlands 2, Halo 4 and probably something else coming during xmas I am wondering if I will have time for everything.

Will not be buying this service. As others have said, with more games coming out down the line, I may not need the 3rd, 4th, or 5th DLC. And early access and some stupid knife and dogtag stuff don't interest me. And after seeing the issues CoD Elite has had, it's just not worth it. That being said, i am still excited about the Close Quarters coming out soon, will be buying that as soon as I am "allowed", lol.

I just saw that it was EA tweeted @ a one time fee of $50.

They are claiming a savings over paying for everything seperately, but I was wondering if that is true if you already have the B2K map pack?  Or is it only saving you some money if you do not have the B2K pack?

If it really does save me money in the liong run, then I will probably get it, if not, then I won't.  I care very little for a new knife, camo, or skins or any of the other stuff they are offering; just the maps.

Official pricing only recently came out about the next map pack DLC "Close Quarters" and it's priced at $15/1200 MS Points. I don't think anything official has been released about what the others will cost individually, so everyone's assuming they will continue with the $15 price point.

The names of the (5) DLC are: Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, Armored Kill, Aftermath, and End Game.

With that pricing assumption (and the assumption that you'll stick with the game until the end), you will save $10 if you already have B2K. You will save $25 if you don't have B2K.

Cool. Thanks.  I saw it was tweeted somewhere.  I think it was on the BF blog...?  It said $50.  One time Fee.

I was just curious of the price savings.  It looks like I will be buying it just to save a few bucks in the long run.

Even after watching the vid, still not interested. I just can't say for certain that I am still going to be playing this by the time the 4th or 5th DLC comes out. What about Borderlands 2, Black Ops 2, hell even the next Battlefield Bad Company? So the only advantage is 2 weeks early access. Sorry but it's just not worth it in my opinion.

Side note, I like how they try to make it look like you only get the weapons and stuff if you do the Premium Service. All those weapons, vehicles, and assignments are attached to the DLC< not the service. The only bonus stuff is gun camo, a black knife, and some dog tags.
