After playing the beta on xbox 360 for about 4 days I pre-ordered this one.

Despite the Beta being limited in content and having some issues I thoroughly enjoyed it and can´t wait to start playing the full game. Worst on the beta for me were the frequent console freezes when doing arkfall events. But even if the console crashes won´t be fixed in the first commercial release i´ll be playing it a lot. The first few hours I wasn't too excited or too sure, but after a few days on the Beta I was hooked.

In my experience just about every mmo starts with a variety of bugs, glitches, bad and/or missing menus/interfaces, etc. Same with Defiance; there's definitely room for improvement but I found the Beta well playable already.

It does have similarities to Borderlands but to me Defiance feels a lot more mature in the rpg area. Borderlands had a few flaws that really put me off; worst being the able to get a new lvl 1 char to a max lvl 50 char in under an hour.. that's should not be possible in any rpg, and the amazing ease with which any weapon and item could be duped; kills the fun of grinding for them to see lots of new players running around with a big pile of the very best weapons in the game. We won't be seeing that in Defiance from what I've seen in the Beta.

Defiance to me looks like a decent game at the very least if you like this sort of thing. Not sure how the synergy with the tv will work, but even if the tv show gets cancelled i'm not worried about the game. It has plenty of potential on it's own and I'm pretty sure it won't have any problems surviving without the show.

A few downsides to the (Beta) game to keep in mind;

- The main story line can be played solo or with a team. However, once you've done a main story line quest you can't go and do it again to help someone else with it. Only able to do it with players that are at the same stage.

- Fairly frequent console crashes when a lot of people are around. Hope this will be fixed when the full game will be released but might be an issue.

- Some weapons cause such an abundance of lights, flashes, explosions etc that you can't see anything else when they're being fired in your vicinity. Bit of a nuisance at times, especially at the events that'll have lots of players drawn in.

Hopefully these things have been changed after the Beta.

On the upside;

- Plenty of things to solo while making good progress on your character development

- Open world events you can just walk or drive up to and start participating

- Closed 4 player co-op missions. Shoot your way through lots of mobs to fight a boss at the end.

- Classic 8 vs 8 team deathmatches

- Massive multiplayer pvp with up to 64 players. Unfortunately not been able to try this on the beta due to a lack of people queueing up for it. From what I read it is 8 teams of 8 players competing with eachother.

- Main story quest line, lots of individual and small series of sidequests, small events all over the map you can just choose to ignore or finish when passing by

- Several types of challenges, including races (against the clock) and shoot'm'ups for a ranking on leaderboards

- Wide variety of Pursuits (achievements like kill 1000 enemies with an assault rifle, drive so many miles with a certain vehicle, complete a line of side quests, and many many more) to accomplish which will help you develop your EGO (unlocking perks, and bonuses on weapon types, vehicles, etc as you use them)

- Skill/perk system seems pretty original. As in Borderlands you get to use 1 skill (cloak, decoy, dmg burst or speed burst) at a time but 1 character can get up to all 4 and switch between them whenever you like through the loadout system. Every 1 of these skill is surrounded by perks that can be unlocked as you make progress on your EGO. Yet just unlocking them doesn't activate them. You get more loadouts available as you level up and on each loadout you can specify which perks you want to be using. The higher level you are the more perks you can have active at the same time. Individual perks can be leveled up several times to make them more powerful or you can choose to unlock more different perks for a more customizable character. There's lots of them and the way it's set up it allows for some pretty generic character building, lots of different ways/paths/combinations to get what you want.

- Using weapons/weapon types will level them up and each level will add a little bonus like more dmg, faster reload, less recoil, etc. Same for vehicles; drive so many miles and it will level up giving a little speed boost, or a bit more turbo boost, more hp, etc.

- Also similar to Borderlands you will find vendor machines spread around the world with special offers and mobs can drop items as well.

- There are a bunch of factions you can gain reputation with which can give you access to weapons/items in the vendor machines of that faction (special offers always seem availble tho, not noticed any rep requirements for those in the Beta).

This all being available on release of the game and dlc content already being lined up I'm sure I'll be able to spend lots and lots of time on this game without getting bored. Vast amount of hours can be spend on a single character without reaching a maxed out state, you'll keep getting stronger for a long time. Then you can start multiple characters for different builds/purposes as well.

Solo play, team play, co-op, pvp, closed missions, open world events, weapon modification, leveling up, perks, achievements, leaderboard competitions/challenges, character (looks) customization... April the 2nd will glue me to my couch.

Imo a game not to be missed. Hope to see a lot of you out there soon :)

Just need to clarify a few things. After you beat the main story missions the mission icon won't appear on your map, but as long as you're in a group with your friend when he picks the quest you can do it with him. This doesn't work the other way around though, if you haven't gotten to a story quest in your game and you join a friend doing it you won't see any mission objectives or anything. At least, that's what happened in the beta.

That VOT Plasma Pulse gun was insane, every bullet was like a flashbang going off. According to the Defiance boards they toned that down on the PC's beta and the one we had was 3 months old, so it should be gone. Cause yeah, when someone's shooting that thing it flashes your whole screen blue and you couldn't see.

The big PvP, Shadow Wars, is up to 100 players, teams of 50v50 basically playing domination, but with vehicles. I got in a few matches of it and it's crazy. It feels a little tacked on and needs some polish, but the potential is there.

Haven´t played Borderlands 2 in a while but it used to be.

Just have a friend with a lvl 50 who hasn´t finished the Tiny Tina Teaparty quest in playthrough 2 (or was it 2.5?) yet create a game and go to the zone where Tiny Tina is. Then join with your lvl 1 character. The lvl 1 character stays with Tina while the high lvl friend goes the spawnspot of the guest of honor. Might have to start the quest with the high lvl the first time, can't really remember.

(Re)Start quest with the lvl 1. High lvl friend one-shots the guest of honor. Lvl 1 standing next to Tina restarts quest. High lvl friend immediately one-shots the guest of honor again.

Keep repeating that and your lvl will go straight up to 50 in no time.

Just need to get the lvl 1 char to Tina with the high lvl clearing the way first. Then the high lvl needs to clear the camp where the guest spawns. After that is done the (re)starting of the quest and killing the guy takes a few seconds at best. Pretty sure i was able to do lvl 1 to 50 in well less than hour by myself using two consoles, controllers and accounts (my own and my wifes, having 2 xboxs and tv2 set up next to eachother but doing it with a friend on party chat works just as well).

Think it was bout 35-40 minutes after the lvl 1 is at Tina and the high lvl cleared the camp.

one thing im curious about and that ive found no information on is how detailed can you make your characters, in the beta you could change facial features and the like but you only had the choice between 3 different classes. wondering if in the full game were going to have a broader selection of characters and classes.

Beta offered 4 different classes and I´m pretty sure the full game will start with just that as well.

As far as the classes go they´re cosmetical; no differences in skills and perks, weapon proficiency, etc. Only difference between them is the background story and the start-up outfit and weapon which you will be able to change soon enough after the introduction quests.

Just go with what appeals to you most, no influence on the actual gameplay.

I pre-ordered it over the weekend, just went wth the standard edition though.  If ilike it, i'll spend some money on the xp and money bumps for 7 days but I want that choice, i don't want it bundled.  If the servers all take a shit though, i might not even bother picking it up so we'll see how tomorrow shakes out.

To be fail Reves..... you're exploiting the game to power level in Borderlands.  It hardly seems fair to complain that leveling is too fast/easy when you're using a glitch to do it.  That like running around one shotting everything including bosses on TVHM diff saying it's too easy and you're using the evil smasher glitch to do it.

I picked this up for PC, the Steam pre-order bonuses were too tempting.  PC servers are live as of 10pm EST April 1st.  Created my toon and have been playing for a bit now.

I played Borderlands 2 legit and had all 5 classes at lvl 50. Then I found out about this lvl shortcut and that some of my online friends were lvl 50 with lots of legendary gear without even having finished playthrough 1 once.

I am curious and like to know what I´m up against so when I learned about these things I tried them for myself, after which I decided to quit the game.

Just meant to say that´s why I lost interest in Borderlands 2 and that Defiance so far seems to be a more serious rpg game than Borderlands was for me because of these flaws.

My apologies for posting that borderlands leveling shortcut.
I´m not in favour of cheating/exploiting nor for promoting it.
Can´t seem to edit/remove the post unfortunately.

Oh, no, you're cool.  Post the exploits and what not.  It's on someone else if they want to use it, after all.  I think the point was that you can't blame Borderlands for being too easy to level up in if you use an exploit to get you there, instead of, you know, killing things and completing quests.

If i'm reading the posts right, it seems like peopel who played in the Beta are having connection issues.  You can create your character and roll into the game then you get a critical error.  The last update from Trion was 6 hours ago and they say it 'should' be fixed.  However people are saying the problem is actually not fixed.

Server patches and reboots are rolling out right now to attempt to fix xbox connectivity issues.  It looks like they've put throttling in-place like they did with SimCity while they worked onthe servers.  you'll be put in a waiting Q before you can play right now.

I got "failed server connection" on first try but got right in on second try. Will be interesting to see how this plays out tonight when everyone is home from work.
