Is anyone getting Defiance?

This game has gone completely under my radar, but after watching some gameplay I'm pretty amped for it. It looks like a 3rd person Borderlands MMO, but it's also got a Battlefield-esque pvp mode.

Looks interesting.  I may have to check this out.  You looking at it on the PC or console?

Console maybe? The whole "ties into TV" thing is what has me interested. How the heck is that going to work anyways?

I played in a few phases of testing.  Alpha and Beta.  The gameplay can be quite fun, and PVP could end up being sweet too.

My ability of choice was the hologram (think Halo 4) one.  Send out a decoy that draws fire.  The kicker was, once they realized it was a hologram and turned to me, I can activate it again to switch places with the hologram.  It's like a teleport at that point.

Graphics looked pretty good especially in Eyefinity.  I played on PC, and would probably pick it up for that if I do buy it.  My main reservation about it is the TV tie in.  If the show on TV fails, will the game be impacted significantly?

They've said even if the show fails they still plan to continue support for the game. I'm really hoping this turns into a good game. Consoles have been in need of a decent MMO and this looks like it could be it.

Looks cool.  Always wanted to try a shooter mmo just none really got my interest.  From the way this is built i see a huge lag fest in store for this. especially on consoles unless they are doing dedicated servers.

Is it fun? Yes. The world is huge, even just the bit we're allowed to explore in the beta. The combat feels good and controlls well, if you've ever played an FPS you're right at home.

Is it laggy? Also yes. And it's so, so bad. Press X to talk to a quest giver then wait 20+ seconds for the game to realize you pressed a button. And this happens for everything. Kill a guy, he dies 20 seconds later. Swap weapons and you can't even shoot for 20 seconds while your guy does nothing waiting for the gun to change. Oddly enough grenades respond instantly. Now hopefully this is just day 1 of the beta lag and by tomorrow or so it'll be fine. If this problem persists til Monday, it does not bode well for the game and I may cancel my preorder til I hear the game is fine.

This is brutal.  the lag is unplayable.  It seems like a third person Borderlands, for sure, and seems pretty ambitious.  Maybe it's Destiny before it gets released?

Let's hope this lag clears up and the pvp isn't so Battlefield-y.

I happen to like the Battlefield-y pvp. Too many games just do the close quarters thing, but a 50v50 war should be pretty awesome. But only if this lag goes away. Might just have to write today off and see how it does come Sunday.

They patched the beta today, which I was very surprised to see. It was down for an hour and when it came back, it was lag free. Enemies died when they're supposed to, buttons worked when they should, it's actually playable. I'm inclined to believe it was less a game issue and more something with the server since PS3 and PC never had the problem. If it stays like this the rest of the week I might be back on board with this game.

just finished playing the game for several hours, tried sticking to the main mission of finding that one guy but ended up wondering off, the game plays well and i teamed up with a couple of randoms and we did a whole bunch of missions in the emediate area then we all just went our own directions. i jumped into the 4wheeler and tried to drive from one side of the map to the other but it was taking 4-ever, so i decided to just start doing random quests again. i would have played longer but the game froze on me, i couldnt figure out how the in-game chat feature worked.

I'm enjoying this game.  It pretty much is 3rd person Borderlands, with random shit happening all the time.  Some people might need to be rescued, or a roadblock might have to be cleared as you're driving down the road, but this isn't shabby.  At one time, we had 30 people all trying to kill this bug thing, which was fun until the Xbox froze up.

I haven't done pvp, but, like I said, I'm still ultra wary of it (and I don't know how to get into it).

Hit right on your d-pad, go matchmaking then either shadow wars or quick match. Or you can do the 4 person co-op mission the same way. I'll be playing tonight, I'd like to try and get a group together and run it.

It feels pretty tacked on to me.  I didn't really enjoy it all that much, but I'm up for trying it out a few more times.  If you don't have upgraded weaponry, you're at a disadvantage.

Played a bunch of this today. It's pretty awesome. The beta area is HUGE, and it's only part of the map. There is so much to do.

The game is terribly buggy. Every beta I have done that is this close to launch will have those bugs on the disk.

It took me a good 15 - 20 to figure out the clunky menu system. Once you unlock the mod slots, installing a mod in there does not mean it will be there when you log in next. That especially sucks given the sheer cost of weapon modding. Everytime I would join the leaders group, it resulted in death because I would fall through the map. Of course this game has a death penalty and it hurts more when you are trying to save cash. Constant sound glitches and game freezing. The draw distance is poor. There is nothing I hate more than pop up.

I could really go on and on. The bottom line is it seems to be a fun game but it could be another Two Worlds.

For what it's worth, the talk on their forums is that this beta is several months old

That is what scares me. A beta is not a demo and at this point, this should be nothing more than a load test. An MMO should have everything saved server side. This stuff will hopefully be patched up.

The game is terribly fun to play. I hope it isn't this buggy though.

Any more thoughts? I missed the chance for the beta and I'm really curious.

I still continue to play the beta and it hasn't lost any of it's fun factor. That says alot seeing as I really don't like FPS games anymore. JTG, the best thing I can say is to wait and see. There will be people buying the game here on release day. I would wait and see what they say. I feel like my toon is gimped because I have been unable to mod my equipment. Being a MMORPG/RPG/online RPG player, equipment is everything. You get better equipment to kill off bigger things, so you can get better equipment, so you can kill off bigger things and all the while looking like a pimp.

After reading all of your comments I have pre-ordered this and will be picking it up next week.

LocGaw, your comments were the most infuential. You don't like the bugginess but you continue to play due to the fun factor is out weighing the bugs. That says something.

Hopefully, this will ease some worry

You saw a small fraction of the final game, and in the case of console, put up with older code with issues that we already made fixes for in the launch release, but you also showed us a huge future for Defiance

Well, to be fair, Defiance isn't a FPS, but I get what you are saying. :)

This game does still intrigue me.  The developer seems pretty responsive as well, which is nice.  I'm still on the fence, though.

Well, I'll have it on Tuesday. I'll make sure to post my thoughts

You'll think I say that to all our Beta testers (I do), but it's true - you took a chance and blew us away with top-shelf feedback. You saw a small fractionof the final game, and in the case of console, put up with older code with issues that we already made fixes for in the launch release, but you also showed us a huge future for Defiance™.
Now we look forward to showing you the real, more polished game while we act on your feedback to deliver continuous updates that improves our obsession. That's the beauty of a server-side game - constant updates that are fast like whoa.
Enough rattling on. Thanks again - really - for putting in the hours to push us over the top. We look forward to living up to expectations and to delivering new missions, weapons, challenges and more. Free. Over and over again.
