Rumor - Dancing speeds up Control point capture. Testing says otherwise.

Recently it came to my attention some people believe dancing speeds up control point capture. I didn't believe it and I still don't believe it. My testing, measured to hundredths of a second, do not support dancing as a method to speed up control point capture.

I'll post my measurements soon. In the mean time, if you have evidence to a method that supports the rumor about dancing, please post it here so I can test it.

Update: Statistics added.

I started off measuring just the capture cycle but realized neutralize plus capture would yield better results if the dancing effect was small. The Circle Glide dance held a particular fascination for some folks so I included it too.

In game, I would have considered differences of less than a second to be inconsequential. The results of my measurements are far less than that at hundredths of a second.

Conclusion, except for alleviating boredom, dancing does not speed up control point capturing.

Capture only. No Dancing 10.09, 10.05, 9.75, 10.07, 9.89, 9.99 - Avg 10.07 - Max variation 0.34
Primary Dancing    9.93, 9.73, 10.07 - Avg 9.91 - Max variation 0.34
Secondary Dancing 9.78, 9.92, 9.98 - Avg 9.89 - Max variation 0.2

Neutralize and Capture. No Dancing 20.02, 19.97, 19.83 - Avg 19.94 - Max variation 0.19
Primary Dancing 19.93, 19.94, 19.99 - Avg 19.95 - Max variation 0.06
Secondary Dancing 19.89, 20.15, 19.99- Avg 20.01 - Max variation 0.26
Circle Glide Dancing 19.93, 20.06, 20.07 - Avg 20.02 - Max variation 0.14

Maximum difference between the average of: No Dancing 19.94 - Primary Dancing 19.95 = 0.01
No Dancing 19.94 - Secondary Dancing 20.01 = 0.07
No Dancing 19.94 - Circle Glide Dancing 20.02 = 0.08

First I heard of that.  Seems something a Timmy would do -- dance while the other team is taking him out.

As the story goes, some people remember a Bungie employee joking about dancing on the Control point. That was during the Alpha streams. I can't find the video, yet.

Don't think I've read that one before.  I have read one suggesting you dance on a control point so that you can use the 3rd person view to be able to see more around you. People come up with all kinds of silly things to suggest to others to do.  -

Yes, I've read that to and it's the only valid reason I've heard of.

I've been hearing this for a while and it did appear to make the capture go faster when folks danced on the control point. However testing with a stopwatch confirms DEEP's observations that it doesn't make a difference.

I'm betting someone started dancing once, and someone else came up to dance with him and the capture went faster.  Dancing attracts people and more people makes it capture faster.  So theory proven dancing  makes the capture go faster.      ;)

Added measurements to the OP.

I've heard it mentioned that dancing "might" make it go faster, but never gave any serious thought to the idea. I usually dance just as something to do.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, capture speed caps at 3 people, so if you have more than 3 people in a cap point, you are wasting time. Can anyone confirm this?

Only anecdotally.I remember one of the Bungie streams reminding people that 3 was enough. I can't remember which one.

Confirmed - this is actual factual information provided by Bungie (I heard/read it - don't remember if it was during a stream or TWAB). Capture speed maxes at 3 people, so any more is a waste of time. Can provide an advantage since this is largely ignored by most fireteams.

But points awarded to all at capture?

Actual evidence based testing? How dull! :-)
