The Prison of Elders is looking like a lot of fun. Warlock with Obsiden Mind and Bad JuJu is going to be used a lot by me.
Sounds like you like purple! For those who might not know, Obsidian Mind restores a portion of your super energy when making kills with the Nova bomb and Bad JuJu builds super energy when making kills. Bad JuJu is a pulse rifle. Pulse rifles got a damage buff with 1.1.2.
I tried BJJ in the crucible the other day. Maybe it was just that day or it was just me, but I did better with either the Suros or the Vex. Though, I want to try it again - for the super energy build. Could work for a Titan too.
If anybody needs a new Destiny friend I'm looking for some. Just getting back into it. I have been playing PS4 version and have a 30 Warlock/27 Titan/26 Hunter. I'm getting the Xbone version from Gamefly probably tomorrow :)
Was hoping to do some raiding last night, but that damn 2 gb console update took 90 minutes and crapped out any chance of that. Almost as bad as the no friends list Thursday. I will be around tonight for sure.
While I'm certainly no ninja with a less than .9 k/d, I started doing more Crucible lately, and being a data guy I did some testing to learn more about the guns I like and/or perhaps should be using in the Crucible. Turns out the Vex Mytho and SUROS do best for me as a primary. A Vault of Glass shotgun (Found Verdict) has performed pretty well as a secondary. A tracking void 331 rocket launcher does a better job for me than the Hunger of Crota solar tracker - partly because I get 4 rockets when picking up heavy ammo for it and just 3 rockets when I have Crota's solar tracker up. This is so, I suspect, because the max ammo capacity is also different between the two launchers.
In the testing I've done I learned that a non-critical body shot does about 2/3 the damage of a headshot for most primary weapons. A couple exceptions I've found so far are the SUROS at 80% for non-crits and The Last Word at 57%. I want to get good enough to try to complete the Thorn bounty... That gun is brutal in the Crucible.
I used Omnigul in the "Fist of Crota" Earth mission for the following data. As it turns out, other PvE ultras & majors can produce the same numbers.
Critical hit data:
B-Line Trauma scout: 321
Vision of Confluence solar 300 level Scout: 401
MIDA Multitool scout: 413
The Last Word exotic hand cannon: 706-932 (zoomed-not zoomed, bonus damage when firing from the hip)
Fatebringer 300 level VoG arc hand cannon: 627
Word of Crota void CE hand cannon: 642
Oversoul Edict arc pulse rifle: 157
Bad JuJu pulse rifle: 181
SUROS auto rifle - zoomed: 214
Red Death pulse rifle: 228
Vex Mythoclast solar fusion primary rifle: 288
I haven't given the Red Death a fair test in the Crucible. I really don't like it for PvE, and that opinion carries over into other areas, but I'll try it again sometime soon. I love the hand cannon The Last Word, but haven' t given it much attention in the Crucible either. A combo I'd like to try is the Fatebringer (or Word of Crota) legendary hand cannon and the exotic Invective shotgun (that makes it's own ammo like the Icebreaker), for a run-and-gun or room-clearing combo for an up-armored Titan striker. I'd also like to figure out which gun combo would work for me and would allow carrying the Gjallarhorn..... Any suggestions on this or anything else in this post?
Yes crucible is a different beast from PvE in terms of weapon performance. I much prefer the exotic being a primary as opposed to a heavy, though what I have seen is some people will switch out weapons when waiting on the heavy ammo spawn to use an exotic rocket or machine gun. No point carrying it around the whole match when you have to wait on the ammo spawn for a limited amount of time.
For primaries, Last Word is the way to go for most. Hold the trigger for auto fire and it shreds in close range, or ADS and pull the trigger for mid range. Thorn works better for me for longer range and I find it pulls head shots better than TLW. Red Death is good if you can hit those head shots as well at longer ranges, but I picked up the blue Evergreen II pulse rifle which performs just like Red Death in regular crucible with better stabilitiy, just no health recovery. Haven't really tried scouts since most of the maps leave you close to mid-range.
I find Ice Breaker useless in PvP, but I mostly run shotgun because of the map size unless you get a slightly larger map. Patience and Time is much better with it's stability in case you miss the first headshot, but most legendary snipers like LDR or Longbow will perform the same. Don't have the queen's sniper or Praedyth's to know how they perform.
Praedyth's is the only snipe I use in vanilla crucible. I have a butt load of others but there isn't any substitute for the PR's stability when I'm firing wildly trying to get my two body shots in. I only use a sniper on Matt's Mom and only then when we spawn C side or after we have it locked down. otherwise my loadout stays the same, Vex, found verdict and Corrective Measure for my heavy.
Damage counts can help switch things up when it comes to Iron banner, but Time to Kil is the best benchmark I have. And my time to kill varies grealty from published lists. Bluestar is right about the Last Word (and very little esle- because he's dumb). But to really make it, or thorn, work you need to land headshots.
Forget that.
Hold down the trigger on the Vex and stuff melts. Hide in the corner with the Verdict and unload it in people's earholes. Corrective Measure is a cheat-y good heavy. it's a machine gun sniper. The common denominator on all these guns is that recoil tends to work so that my last shots are hitting the head as I hold down the right trigger from the center mass orientation I start with.
I have a positive KPD in this game unlike every other shooter i have ever played (1.1 vs .97, but positive is positive) and I think the reason why is that the guns provide anough variation to choose the one that fits your play style. The top players will all use the same gun. I'm not a top player so I get to see what works best for me.
The "Time on Target" pulse rifle in the above list is available right now from the Vanguard Quartermaster for 150 marks. It'll likely go away next week with the new DLC. I'll try it in the Crucible soon.
FYI. You can only carry 5 Prison of Elder chest keys. Put your overflow in the Vault. Official.
FYI. After using an Etheric Key, you can go to orbit and rejoin your fireteam and loot the chest again. I read of 3 repeats. Unofficial.
Right - PoE chest key =/= Ether Key. PoE chest keys are pretty rare. I never saw one over the weekend but didn't get to spend much time looting.
The Ether Key is just a timer for how long you have to loot the chest. Don't go to orbit - confirmed that the best is to hop on your sparrow, leave the area and return. I've seen reports of some chests being looted up to 5 times but have only been able to get 2 loots out any one chest myself.

Yes to going out of area. Much better solution. I failed so far though.
I've had Etheric Keys (or didn't get one when I should have) end abrubtly. Couple of times now.
I was wondering what the heck that Etheric Key timer was all about. I'll have to read up on it before running the Wolf patrols again with my other characters.
That is the time you have to find the chest. It would be neat to go out and come back in again using the same key, but with Destiny's slow screen loads these days that may be problematic. On the other hand, one can run the hunt as many times as he/she wants, even after turning in the bounty. Help take down the boss each time and you get the key to open the chest.
The easy way is to get to the chest ASAP, jump on your sparrow, leave the area, turn around and come back and open the chest again. Been doing it all weekend.

If I'm on anytime today, I'll be available.
Applying that big update now.
BTW, the 1.2 update goes live on the 12th.
I'll bet we see open world changes like we did before The Dark Below dropped.

That's a lot of data. Thanks.
Regarding Crucible/Iron Banner. We know Bungie has tweaked weapon characteristics for PvP. I imagine that could swing your results a bit.
Regarding the Last Word. Hip firing gives a 932 value? It's so much higher than anything else it makes me wonder, why use another gun?

This what happens when one team is a single clan with high skill and the other team is completely random. WTF Bungie, where was the skill matching?
https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR?instanceId=2473347744&characterId=2305843009215162973
In case the link does not work, Clash, Bravo 10035, Alpha 770.
OUCH, to put it mildly. Clearly unbalanced skill matchup here, was this really the best pairing the system could come up with at the time?
I know I shouldn't condone quitting, but I probably would have cut my losses and gone to orbit when the score was, say, 5000 to 500...
One of the reasons I don't prefer pvp in Destiny.
FYI. Wait until the 19th to decode Legendary engrams.
Just heard that as well. Since I get 0 purple drops, I will probably keel over if one does.
I managed to get a Wolf Pack loot chest. Lots of stuff but no purple engrams. Boo.
Been keeping my legendary drops to wait. I got a key earlier, but couldn't find the chest :(
At the Embers we had back to back, Wolf Pack, Extraction Crew and Wolf Pack.
Super busy and fun!

Stupid Bungie! Like I want to wait until 1pm to play HoW ;)
Thanks to the weather I won't be on the golf course this afternoon. HOW here I come.
