Not so much an event, as a bunch of uploaded videos.

Videos are a bit choppy. The players are not complaining so it must be the video processing or the internet. Probably better to see them next week.

I have not watched them all yet.

As mentioned, there is a series of about a dozen videos - some with commentary, some from a single player's perspective. I got a better feel for the game watching the single player videos.

I think the maps look stunning and a lot of fun to play. The BR looks to be more like H3, but it's good to see it back in action.

My main concern is that Promethean Vision seems a little too accurate. The range is pretty far, further than I expected. You almost don't need to really worry about callouts with this AA as you can pretty far. If they keep that range, I would say add in some kind of field-of-vision restriction.

We haven't seen everything yet.  I assume one of the perks you can pick is the ability to not be seen on Promothean Vision.  That's part of what makes this so maddening: it's not that they haven't listened or have ruined things, it's just that it appears that there are some major glaring holes in the balance, and they just couldn't have let them go completely, right?  Enter anxiety.

These videos have terrible sound. From what has been said by people who actually played the games, the sound is excellent for these weapons. That being said, these may well not be the final sounds.

This seems to be true. One of the developers noted in the commentary vids that the E3 build does not have the final sounds.

First thing that came to my mind.

Also maps have to many wrap-arounds, I mean closed areas that go nowhere just in and out.

Yeah, If you listen to Neighbor's play it sounds tinny......if you listen to Elamite's it sounds like the BR is one shot lol

Well, this sounds a little more critical and interesting with these comments here.  I'm concerned, but if we can turn off everything if we have to, then perfect.

ETA: Proment YouTube comment: 343 thinks they know what they're doing, but they don't. I can't wait to laugh my ass off when H4 has like 70k people online on a Saturday, then switch over to blops 2 to see over a mill. Should of brought H4 back to it's roots like H2, and H3.

In many ways they want what I want. The primary similarity is that they too want the game to be suitable out of the box for both casual and competitive play.

To me that means speed, gravity, jump height, other movement, shields, health, weapon charateristics and bleed through are default across the board. I understand the sandbox getting reduced a bit for competition. It makes the most sense when something can be exploited.

I'm fairly sure FPS Pro gameplay is going to have to evolve beyond what these guys have known it to be. Audiences need more eye candy and a relatively simple method of understanding what is going on.

I agreed when Elamite said something along the lines of too much customization is not necessarily a good thing.

I do not want a scenario like we have in Reach where you have just too damn many options: Vanilla, TU, Anniversary and MLG. All of them play differently and all of them have their own community of players. Plain and simple, Reach has too many playlists and too many settings.

Sure 343 may be using Reach as their own version of a Beta, but it's still frustrating and does give one some cause for concern.

A tweak here and there to make the game suitable for "competitive play" is different from settings that turn it into a different game.

However, there has to be some give and take from MLG and these pro players. If they keep changing it to play like "old school Halo" then how do they expect to keep the up and coming young players interested in the game?

There's a weird disconnect.  Team Fortress 2, on the PC, hasn't had major overhauls every couple of years, but it remaines massively played.  It just has to be consistent.  Tweak things.  Add more maps.  As long as the gameplay is good, and you can watch it and figure out what's going on, it should stand on its own.

Agreed.

However, it's now clear the days of Halo 2 are gone. Loadouts and AAs are here to stay. The Halo franchise IS changing - for better or worse I think Halo 4 will really be what determines what happens with "competitive" or professional Halo. If it falls flat like Reach, then stick a fork in it. If it's a hit, then let the games begin!

However, customizing a game to fit certain perceived standards of competitve play to make it more like an older game seems like paddling upstream.

We can only hope Halo 4 is not as broken as Reach. If a few tweaks will make the MLG crowd happy we are in good shape, if it needs all new maps, settings and mechanics, that will be bad.

Thats the big thing, will the gameplay be what we want. Will we move fast enough, jump high enough and will the guns feel good in our hands. The AAs and perks are really the least of my concerns. The auto aim seems almost nonexsistent, the pros where all over the place with the BR. A 6 shot kill is a little to long, esspecially up against power weapons.

I do hope they beef up the sound. I like heavier sounds for weapons. I always thought the H3 BR sounded weak and thats what the H4 BR sounds like.

I don't think PV will be that big of a deal, most of the time you could also see players on the radar. Campy sword and shotgun bitches beware though, PV will work most effective against these guys. We didn't get to see to many AAs. I was hoping to see the others more. The shield looks cool, but I only saw it once and no jetpack.

With 5 months to go they have alot of time to tweek and finish things. I'm glad they let the pros in on some testing because I remember watching H3 test videos and the players where awful. I don't know how you can playtest a game with people who can't play.

I hope MLG keeps the settings as close to default as possible. I like H3 MLG settings they weren't that far from default so it was easy to jump into other playlists. Its tough making everyone happy. MLG needs a game that casual fans like to watch and Pros like to play. I wish everything in Reach had the TU because I think those settings are the best to play, but instead they have all these different settings that confuse and divide the community. 343 I hope learned a lesson from this.

Has there been any forge info? Is one of the 10 maps going to be a Foundry like map. Forge maps could play a big part in Halo4. They are a huge part of Reach, but framerate issues killed the creativity of  alot of cool looking well designed maps. I think almost all my favorite Reach maps where forged. I hope the framerate issues don't hamper H4 custom maps.
