Being a Dad...so it begins...

Today I had this text message exchange with a 12 year old boy concerning my 12 year old daughter.

Him:  This is --------- and I asked your daughter if she would like to be my girlfriend and she was fine with it but I want to ask you if its fine to make it final?

I made him wait an hour and sent this:

It's okay with me but, remember, Jesus and I both love her.  If you hurt her, you may meet both of us face to face.

He responds within the same minute:

Ha okay thanks

I don't respond back.

Then...three hours later, I get this:

I'm so...sorry.  I didn't realize I said haha okay but I mean YES SIR THANK YOU!!!

I laughed with glee and didn't respond.  If you mess with the first one enough, word will spread.

I do give him major points for approaching me directly (although it was a text message but I'll let it slide).  The vast majority of kids wouldn't think of asking the dad for permission.  By all intents, he's a great kid but I can't just give him a blanket "yes" without some kind of threat.

lol. my daughter is 15. i coach the hockey team at her highschool. one of my players and her just started dating. when she asked to go to the movies with him last saturday, i emailed this application to him. he's a really great kid, but i just MUST take every opportunity to mess with his head. i told all the players @ the first practice that i would hate to have to break their legs if they ever hurt her. they all also know that i was arrested and fined for roughing up another boy that wouldn't leave her alone when asked, asked again, told, and told again to stay away from her. then he thought since he is 8" taller and 100 lbs heavier than me, we should discuss it like men. he quickly found out he is not a man yet. i didn't hit him. when he swung at me, i threw him to the ground and put a choke hold on him until he submitted. he yelled for his friends to help him, but they all ran. i suppose he learned a lesson about "friends" that day as well.

Im SO not looking forward to those days either. Our religion heavily pushes waiting till 16 to date so Im praying that buys us a few more years (my daughter is nine). I count my blessings that my 11 year old son is still pretty sure girls have cooties.

Wait,..... you mean they don't...?!?!?!?!?

I'm glad that I have 2 boys.  If I had a daughter, I fear I may over-react.......... if that's possible.  :D

Problem is that my 12 year old daughter is about 5'5" and looks closer to 15.  She's worn glasses since she was around 18 months old and got contacts last year which really made her look a lot older.  She is just now really starting to notice boys and boys are starting to let her know that they are noticing her.

Luckily, I'm a large man with a career in law enforcement.  The boys like me but are all very nervous around me because they know I can and will squash them like a grape.  I intend to keep that up.

I intend to casually mention that pigs will eat ANYTHING, and that here uncle owns a pig farm.

He wouldn't happen to go by the nickname 'Brick Top', would he?

A lady I worked with a few years back said this about why it's nice having boys instead of girls; "With boys, you only have to worry about 1 penis."

Wow you guys are nice enough to have an application process? I think I'll just post a sign outside my house that says "NO!" and get it over with. My daughter is only 4, but it's never too early.
