Just curious, is each Season a book?  Or will they span a couple this time?

in theory each season is about one books worth of content, but they're having to kind of mix and match to keep the threads coherent due to the way the books were edited.  (read - all f'ed up)  and martin needs to get his act together and put the final 2 books out or there's no way the tv show will last.  he can't wait 7 years between friggin books if he wants the tv show to cover the books.  at best he's got a couple of years before the show hits the upcoming book, and then he'll have to get the final book out or the show will dry up.

I love this series, but I would like to see it condensed.  Be honest, even if you are a total homer for the series, you have to admit that by book 4 and 5, there were absolute sections that bored you to tears.  They should combine 2 and 3 into one and then 4 and 5 into one.

^100% Agree.  The books are way too long and drawn out.  And don't even start on Book 4, ugh.  That was painful.

I got about halfway through 4, then had to stop.  It really is bad.

Currently Playing:

The first season of the series, with the approval of G.R.R.M. has some liberties with characters, and plot lines, although at the heart of the first season they stuck fairly close to Book 1.

season 2 will probably combine a little of book 3, and possibly some of 4, and maybe even 5 since they will want to over lap on the events that were split between the books due to the constraints that G.R.R.M had when writing them (too much content for 1 book apparently)

Anyway, this season should be a really good one, and I can't wait to see how they change things up, and how well they play out the scenes.

Can't wait!

I watched 1st season on HBO, then I read all the books, then I went back and rewatched the Show again and it was even better the 2nd time around. I really appreciate shows/movies that stick that close to the book. Unlike that abortion of a movie they called Eragon.

Read the books a long time ago and don't get HBO.  I just got the 1st disc through Netflix and poured over the first two episodes.  I am hooked.  The show is awesome.

I felt that the premier should have been at least two hours. The production has so much value and material yet only 10 hour for Book 2? So many characters, so little time.

Nothing new, we are were we left off, excpt for the introduction of Stannis nothing to really metion.

I really do hate how they downplayed the biggest plot, that Geoffrey is not Robert's son, into "i heard this" and "rumor that".

LOL I missed Arya, she's pure gold. She and Tyrion are definitely the most interesting characters.

Not much happened, this episode should have been merged with the first. Next weeks should be prime time material though.

It's the Game of Thrones, not much happens in 5 books.

Good episode, Tyrion is great.  I also like Jon Snow (mainly from the books).  Bonus for lots of nudity too.

I thought last night's episode was more rapey so I approved.  Could have done without the jizz lip wipe+mouth kiss, but whatever...

Good news, HBO ordered Season 3 due to strong number of viewers from the first two episodes of season 2 :)

Also, I read in Entertainment Weekly (I think) that if the 3rd season happens (which it is), that they are going to split A Storm of Swords into two seasons.

yep, was checking the westeros site and they're splitting that book - not in half maybe, but 2/3 or so - scuttlebutt says the red weeding will be the season 3 finale.  they are going for 10-episode seasons and not really following the books as far as scripting the story to follow page for page by episode, but they can adjust the stories across the books so the story flows better than the books.  having 2 books cover the exact same time period for 2 sets of characters was a piss-poor editing choice.  and with the tv show they can eliminate that kind of clunkiness.  kinda throws the hard-core book followers off a bit as the stories won't mesh perfectly, but lets the story flow better so it should work out nicely.

looks like season 4 contractual talks are going on right now.  they wanted to re-up for 2 seasons but hbo needs to get the contractual stuff with the actors and whatnot into order.  i can't imagine they're thinking the series will peter out.  can you imagine the bloodbath that would happen between networks if this came up for optioning away from hbo?  hbo would be nucking futs to let this one slip away - so i wouldn't be surprised to hear more about season 4 contracts being ironed out before too long.

A split at the Red Wedding would be perfect. From what I recall it was about half way through the book.

I'm really looking forward to how they are (hopefully) going to do the books after that, we should have it all happening together, rather than one book following character group A for a time, then the next book going back and giving us group B's stories during that same time period. I really hated that about the books, really messed me up.

I think we are going to see A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons merged together (yet still covering 2 seasons) since both books are basically happening during the same time line, just with different characters.

It's going to take some really creative writing on the part of the producers, but I have faith in them.  I'm fairly impressed with what they've done so far, especially with all the material that they have to work with.

Last night's episode was pretty good.  Not sure I like where they ended it though.  If I wrote that I would have ended it after you know what does that thing to you know who.

I can't understand why Lady Stark didn't cut Little Fingers throat right there and then.

Also the questons they were asking the boys, "brotherhood?" What brotherhood are they refering.

Great episode. Next should top it.

the "brotherhood" they are talking about is the "brotherhood without banners" - the troops ned stark sent out to catch the mountain, being led by beric dondarrion before everything went completely to hell.

I hope they address / show Beric Dondarrion and his "troupe" before the season is over.
