[FM4] Future series musings

So with the end of both current euro zone series, question is what next....some ideas I had... 1 50s roadster series. Based around the 2 seat MG/Sprite/Healey 3000 tuned with enuff power to make them interesting round a short track. Prob is they all dlc. 2 more powerful version of above using likes of xk120 and early corvettes instead. Or a endurance style series with maserati 300s jag ď type and similiar cars. 3 since we just did r3 why not the full r1 cup, but with selection restricted to open cockpit cars, or else field will all be mazda 787s 4 rerun of the supertouring rules bit with extra rule that car must be a 4 seat saloon. I think that was original intent of that series.Perhaps with more weight and touch more power. Mebbe re branded as thundersaloon series. 5. The btcc stuff always seems popular...

I like the ideas General, I think we juist need a general consensus from the gents and get going. I did put something in the GT2 thread about what we could do next:

Snoop SLR8789 wrote:
I too am looking forward to see whats next i am taking a break for a bit with hosting while it think of someting fun. May organise a one off with an old series car so anyone who has a previous series they enjoyed please put your ideas out there. I dont know how to create a poll otherwise I would create one. I'm thinking either:
- GT2 WC Cars
- STC Cars
- BTCC Series 2 Cars
- Seat Leon Super Cup Car

If anyone has any other ideas for a one off or a series I can help in Hosting/Sorting out standing sheets/Orgaising/Testing just give me a shout.

Lets see what happens, I like the idea of a 50's classic series, I was playing with the idea of a classic Le Man enduro months ago as a one off. The ideas are there i think its just draining on testing when most of us are working silly hours.

I'm up for most types of racing. Wouldn't mind something slower than the GT2 cars though. I think my favourite series have been the Clio/Leon ones, partly down to the lower speeds leading to tighter racing. Full rooms also helped :(

EDIT: Also same spec cars so more of a level playing field?

I've also wanted to run in a 50s sports car series (Aston DBR-1, Jag D-Type, Maserati 300s, Ferrari 250TR, Mercedes-Benz). My concept for it would be to keep the wheels and tires stock to retain some of the old school feel. Sport gearboxes for the cars that don't already have the equivalent to keep the original number of gears but allow the final drive to be adjusted. Tricky part is balancing the cars.

A few other ideas:

Spec Radical series

Prototype Challenge cars

GT3

Snappy's Eighties sports cars

Been lookimg at recreating the Leon cup - will be pretty much the same with a couple track differences. Depends on how many people will actually run in it. Looking at the poll for what cars to do next seems like the leons are winning. Dont forget to vote :):

http://www.2old2play.com/poll/what-series-would-you-sunday

Will have a think and may decide on something next week and will look to start first sunday of July (6th)

Hmm all well and good but was thinking something more original, but guess whatever is popular I suppose. At least everyone will have the car from last time. Is the clio same as last one too? Being lazy and not looking lol

I'm almost ready to try a hand at old style Trans-Am series... Much tbd on that.

Another half-whisky based idea was: 'your fathers Olds'... As in, some 'run what ya brung' type cars (that your father/grandfather drove to work) from 50's / 60's, with little race mods... mostly street-race stuff, for some one-offs...

I like the idea of a series where all the cars have the same build and tune so it its strickly racing that seperates. A lower class car on the small tracks could be a nice change of pace but I'm up for anything that drives well.

That's a good idea seeker but the problem with the same tune is that not everyone can drive the same tune unless it's left to default?

I liked tthe heavyweight series we just finished. The cars were equal and the difference was the drivers. I would like to see a 50's old school race series

WIth the Seat Leon Series coming to a close in a few weeks time i thought it might be an idea to revive this thread to see what people fancy for the upcoming winter series (will run probably 10 weeks from mid-late september) I have said id like to take a back seat in the next series so thinking it would be nice to hear all your ideas and see if someone would like to take it further (testing, deciding tracks, points, handicaps etc.)

I still like the idea of doing a one off classic endurance race. or a classics series. The BTCC stuff we havent done for a while which could be revived. Or we could go back to the full racing R classes for another bout of crashing swearing and breaking down.

What does everyone think!?

Lotus Exige Cup: Totally stock, no tuning.

No handicaps, NO CONTACT...gently touching a car while passing them is the fault of the passing car and will be penalized unless you immediately give the position back during the race. Also two wheele ON THE TRACK/KERB at all times.

That would be a good start no?

Without having driven it stock and no tuning I cautiously like the idea.

Along the same lines we could pick a car and everyone upgrades it using the Forza auto build/tune for a specific class with no modifications allowed.

I also enjoy the A Class level and lower for the most part.

Difficult to enforce though parcells, also all Lotus cars hate me, particularly on what i assume would be road tyres lol. Hopefully there will actually be some people to race as the clio series seems to be struggling. Has some ideas re 50s classic series, to point  of having builds but most are dlc and all required tuning to equalise performance. also had a z4 series with damage etc on, again fully tunable car though.

I'm up for anything, 50's sounds good. I'm all for slower cars as I think the racing tends to be closer due to the lower limitson mistakes.

Hello,

for me following series / action would be great:

-- V8 Supercars in Europe (Silverstone, Hockenheim, Catalunya, Nurburgring, Mugello and The Ring)

-- Audi R8 LMS Cup (Hockenheim, Suzuka, Infineon and Bernese Alps)

-- BTCC III (with old BTCC cars like Sierra)

-- Porsche Supercup USA (Infineon, Indianapolis, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Sedona)

-- ... anything else from 2o4f ....

I like the idea of the V8 Supercars a lot havent had a chance to run these bad boys for some time.

TBH I like all the ideas, do you want to run/host any of them JADN? what days/times were you thinking?

Does everyone actually have the Porsche DLC?

Depending on model in the supercup idea, Infineon might become a destruction derby in the 2-3 first turns.

The 045 lizard might be a good option here for the car, with the tune that snoop made for the gt series.

Ive been playing around with the idea of an R8 LMS Cup, but i havnt been able to find the right tune.

Some thoughts on future series...

What about running two series concurrently? Each series could be four to six races so that the overall length is eight to twelve weeks. We would run series A on week 1 and series B on week 2 and so on.

Snoop SLR8789 wrote:

I've only participated in two series with you all but I think the slower spec series generate more of this than the R class racing.

These sound good.

Still going with these suggestions.

For GT3, I wouldn't mind a VLN inspired series of races on the Nordschleife.

I am not able to host races, Snoop, because my calendar is changing so often and sometimes from day to day. Even my sundays are not fully planable. Maybe in some years......

Hello Jorm,

that is the funfactor, I think. This R8 LMS is so hard to tune and driving that car is so damned hard. I love that challenge. May be we simply drive him stock?

imho some changes is needed for the funfactor, like tires.

here's the setup that wokred the best for me, and i enjoyed driving with:

Engine: Remove restrictors

Driveline: Race

Tires: Max front/rear upgrade

Rims: Buddyclub or Watanabe

this makes the car end up at R3 776

Would it not be an idea then to say run a two class race like the BTCC races we used to do we could have:

Class A:

Max hp 500, min Weight 2500lbs and min Displacement say 2.5L or 3L

Class B:

Max hp 300 min weight 2000lbs and max displacement is under either 2.5L or 3L based on what class A is.

Then if you have enough drivers you can do it as two rooms like a room A and a Room B. or if you dont have enough for two rooms have one room where both classes race and drivers have to use a bit of common sense and dont race the other class.

Obviously the classes need some testing as the above was just an example but you get the best of both worlds, those who want fast cars can and those who want to race at a more relaxed pace can too.

Just my 2 pence

My problem with developing a series is I don't tune at all. I would be happy taking the current SEAT into another series picking new tracks and adding a 5% handicap level. If nothing else develops, and Snoop wants a break, I'll still get on Sundays at 3 pm EST and host some F4 SEAT races.

If this happens, please consider Parcels' Lotus Exige Cup spec series, stock with no tuning. Let's get back to proper RWD cars.

+1 for this. I was looking at an old B500 Elise spec from a while back but unturned exige sounds good.
