Memoir of Battlefield 4's release

I came across this article on the Battlelog forums, and I thought it was a great read.  Not sure how many players here are pleased with the state of the game, but I'm sure you'll find it interesting.

http://www.thegentlelovers.com/127-days-later-and-battlefield-4-is-still...

Yes, the website URL is a bit weird, but it's a gaming website, I assure you.

An interesting and accurate read.

Battlefield 4 ( and even more so COD Ghosts ), have permanently tainted their respective franchises.

Should we ask why or just hope something better comes along ?

When the big names screw the pooch ( after screwing the consumer ), its hard to keep the faith that we'll ever see a polished, functioning, fun release

ever again.

Titanfall scratches an itch, but not as well as Modern Warfare or Bad Company 2 did.

The joy of PC ? - there are still servers for these games. The misery ? They're generally stuck on single maps, no rotation, MW4 can be a hack-fest and admins seem not to care, just happy to have populated servers.

I'll continue to buy big FPS games. I like shooting people on the internet, but like many, and for once this isn't lip service, I won't pre-order, and I'll never buy a season pass / content deal just to save a massive 5 bucks. I won't pay salaries for un-released product, and I won't pay to be a beta tester.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how bad BF4 is. It is horribly tainted and laggy as hell and just broke to bits, but as soon as DICE gives word of BF5 everyone's gonna be salivating. Everyone's gonna assume it'll be better and they'll all get it no matter how much they hate BF4. If for no other reason than all their friends play BF5 and it's not like they're not gonna play with their friends.

Not sure I agree here.  I've bought the last 4 battlefield games day one, but not anymore. This one has left such a sour taste I will be a wait and see guy from here on.  Unless they ship a finished game next time I won't buy. A lot of the guys I play with are of the same opinion.

I haven't played a game of BF4 since Titanfall came out. This morning I decided to try a game on the new Naval Strike maps.....holy crap....this game is broken worse now than it was before. The rubberbanding was actually giving me motion sickness. I just don't think they have the ability to fix this game.

Back to Titanfall....

Did you play any of the other maps, or just Naval Strike? I've only had rubber banding issues on the new maps. Old maps worked fine for me

Seems to be Naval Strike for me - getting shot by a boat gunner from outside a building. Don't know if that's lag / kill cam glitch or just plain BF4 " magic " laugh

Just the new maps.I figured since I paid for them in November I expected them to work on day one.....of course I expected the same from the rest of the game...

NS rubberbands pretty badly, was playing some of the older maps last night and it started doing it on and off. Nothing like NS though. It also seems to mostly just be the 1 map in NS that is terrible. I think it's the one with the old fort in the middle.

Yeah, it's a bit sad that Naval Strike maps seem prone to rubberbanding, because I was having fun playing Carrier Assault until rubberbanding starts, and usually it's off and on until the match ends.

I also like how the article mentions the reply to Troedsson's post on Battlelog, LOL.  I remember clicking "Hoooah!" on that one, and the fact it received so many likes is pretty telling.

This Game Informer article was pretty good too:

Just saw this today, curious why this bug was only just noticed now when the game was released in November:

Found this Forbes article and wanted to share.  I think it's pretty telling how EA is perceived by its customers if even Forbes is reporting on these issues.

This game has solely turned me off of buying any game on release day. I had it on console and PC and both were were screwed. Once playable (if you want to call it that), it was a decent game.

The one thing that interests me is that almost every article you read blames EA. How about DICE sharing in some blame? It would be interesting to know how open they were with EA about the state of the game prior to release.

I'm SO glad I didn't go with "PREMIUM" for BF4.  Premium DLC, I think, is the only reason DICE is still actually working to fix the game.  They still have Dragon's Teeth and Final Stand to release.  Both DLC's are due "Summer 2014" and once released I'm sure EA/DICE will significantly curtail resources for supporting BF4 as they shift to their next project: Star Wars Battlefront (2015).  I'm sure E3 2014 will give us a good idea of what EA/DICE are planning for the Q3/Q4 release window.

I REALLY enjoyed the BFBC series on console and BF3 was decent on console, but better on PC.  None of these games were perfect, but all functioned and were reasonably balanced....eventually  BF4 has been mainly a steaming pile of shiet from a functionality standpoint and I doubt it will ever be balanced properly.

I haven't played in months, but can you still "Road Kill" people with the little indestructible UAV drone?

DICE have just opened up a Community Test Environment (CTE) for Premium members.  PC Only of course.  Perhaps this will help eliminate any major future balance or glitch issues.

Battlefront is being made by another devision of Dice. It's being made by a studio in California.

They also fixed the UAV drone problem within a week or so. Once you hit one person with it, it blows up.

I haven't played Titanfall, but I think Battlefield 4 rocks face. I have so much fun playing this game! I didn't get it when it first came out, but a few months ago, and I bought the first map pack, liked it so much I bought Premium on top of it.

I don't get rubberbanding hardly ever, not sure why some people have issues with that. Mostly I've just been annoyed with the game freezing up on Dawnbreaker, and then after the last patch I was freezing up on all the maps, but since they did some tweaks on the servers last week I haven't been freezing up.

Do I think it's lame that they put the game out unfinished? You betcher ass! It seems to be the trend nowadays, and it's disgusting they have no shame or sense of pride. But my main complaint about Battlefield 4 is there aren't enough friends playing it!

I've heard that complaint on the Battelog forums too, that a lot of players don't have a lot of time put into BF4.  That's a symptom of how bad the game was.  More reason for even players who aren't experiencing difficulties to get mad at EA/DICE, because if they can't maintain a game environment that players want to play in, it's just going to suck for the players who are actually enjoying themselves because they can't find anyone to play with.
