Quarterly Report:

  1. First and foremost Parcells will not be hosting next week as I’ll be in Florida wreaking havoc on Greg and Dan. I mentioned on Thursday that I would be out the next two weeks but then I realized April 18 is good Friday so pretty sure I will race in two weeks on the 17th. And since I wont be back in time to submit the spec car for that week and we liked the Mazda touring car we’ll probably designate it the April 17 spec car, totally stock no tuning. Someone please check out Sport soft or medium tires with this car as it might be manageable with a lesser tire but don’t let Wheels persuade your decision.
  2. Financially we’re off to a better start in 2014 than the 4th quarter of 2013 which bodes well for the balance of this fiscal year. I can’t remember the last time we had less than 8 people and I think Thursaday night marks three weeks in a row with double digit participation levels (even though 9 only made it into the race) which is fantastic!
  3. On the spec car front we’ve been driving vehicles created exclusively by Parcells or Jason up until this wee when we drove Mark’s first spec car entry of GT6. If Mark can do it anyone can so please get some balls and risk submitting a car everyone will hate it’ll make you stronger.
  4. On the non-spec car front we’ve driven a handful of UnSub submitted cars but these cars have been predominantly chosen by Parcells.
    1. We have more than enough cars for the month of April but if anyone wants to drive something just let me know and we’ll add It to the list.
    2. I’m very pleased with the 2 random non-spec cars every week (even though some real losers have been chosen). Starting to get a good list of cars that could be re-used at any time but always room for more.
  5. Soon time to schedule a semi-endurance race for some Thursday night. Need to find the right car for this, any ideas?

Is anyone going to take the lead while Parcells is gone to host the room.  You know what they say, when the cats away the mice will play.

Since no one else has spoken up....

RACING IS ON FOR THURSDAY NIGHT (even while Da Boss is away!)

My plan is to get online around 8:00 EST and race for a couple of hours. For this week I think we should have some fun with a type of car that has been totally ignored - the Shifter Kart 125! This is an amazing little car to drive - it has a 6-speed transmission and can top out around 110mph, so it's definitely quite unlike the regular karts. We're going to skip the "Kart" tracks all together and just focus on any regular track that is less than 1.5-miles in length (Autumn Ring Mini, Cape Ring Inside, etc.) You DO NOT have to purchase this car - it's already available as a one-make car.

Once we've had our fill of the shifter kart then we'll step up to the big boy, the Red Bull Junior. You DO have to purchase this one - we've run it in the past, so you may already have it. The only change that you need to make to this car is to purchase RACE SOFT tires. For this car we'll focus on some larger tracks like Spa, Deep Forest, Le Sarthe, etc. We all had a GREAT time when we ran this car earlier in the year because it's fast, yet extremely forgiving and easy to handle.

That should pretty much take up this week. Perhaps next week we can race a few cars which we ran in SPEC races this year and had a great time including:

Golf V GTI 01 Touring Car: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiaZK9drHM9AdDFEME1FVjExUU9FUHcxYjVvSzdhZVE&authkey=CIf98IwC&hl=en_US#gid=102

Honda CRZ Touring Car: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiaZK9drHM9AdDFEME1FVjExUU9FUHcxYjVvSzdhZVE&authkey=CIf98IwC&hl=en_US#gid=101

Mazda Touring Car: (STOCK - no changes)

He's back! The above idea has been Parcells approved for this Thursday, Mazda being the official spec car. We'll wing the tracks.

Parcells also drove some Go-Karts last Thursday. When I reached Tampa the first thing Dan and I did was drive a couple Go-Kart races before we went over to Greg's place. Parcells hasn't driven Go-Karts in 20 odd years but I got to admit the 2 five minute races we had were the highlight of my week if you do not count watching Fred Couples play the 17th & 18th holes at Augusta last Tuesday!

These were electric Karts that can produce up to 50MPH and it was fucken amazing fun around the short tight course. Once the guys realized Dan and I knew what we were doing they let us loose and in the end we were just over a second behind the fastest lap of the week. First race was just Dan and I where it took me 6-7 laps just to learn the car/track before I started pushing looking for the better lines to take. At that point I let Dan catch up to me (he was a 1/4 lap from lapping me at this point - he knew the track/car of course) so we could get into a close battle and it was almost like any Thursday night where we were very close to each other having a fantastic battle. I was able to hold him off for 4-5 laps (he was .3 seconds faster than me on both sessions) and decided to let him pass me so I could follow him for a bit only to realize he there were only 4 turns left in race 1 (Parcells was confused and under a lot of stress at the time). The sweat was literally pouring off me after the race!!!

In race 2 there were 5 participants and the guys sent Dan and I out last (the guys told me after race 1 that I had the better lines (over Dan :)) but probably wasn't getting on the gas early enough at times) as they assumed we were faster which we defintely were - I was dead last with Dan right in front of me, typical of numerous Thursday night GT6 races :). The guy in front took a very comfortable lead as Dan and I were held up by the slower racers but we got by one fairly quickly and then for about 4-5 laps Dan and I literally raped the guy we were trying to get by dodging and weaving to either side but the kid held his own until after a bit the race director showed him the "allow the guys behind to pass" flag which he did so Dan got by quickly but I got held up a lap or 2 which was still fun as hell and in the end we finished 1-2 once again.

What I thought was very impressive (beyond only being a second off the fastest laps of the week) was both Dan and I knocked off 0.2 seconds in our second session showing small improvements with additional track time...

@Mark - We're going Kart racing soon bud!

Parcells where was the track in tampa?

Side note.  Thursday is the first game of the Blues/hawks series, so I will be watching the game instead.  I am not happy that the Blues have to face the hawks in the first round.  I have a feeling this could be another first round collapse for the Blues.

I thought you guys were gone for two weeks - that's why I went ahead and planned some cars for this week, too.

I actually think that the consensus from the guys who were online last week was that we were going to run the shifter-karts again this week (since we thought you guys would still be gone.) We were all really blown away by how much fun those shifter- karts are to run on standard tracks like London, Cape Ring inside, Suzuka West, Brands Hatch Indy etc - basically anything under 2.0-miles in length (we even ran them at Monaco!) To make things more interesting we also ran with the draft set to "strong" and the Turbo Mode (i.e. catch-up) at the highest level. One or two guys might spin out on the 2nd lap, but within two laps we were jammed back together in a pack. Every race we ran was decided by just a few tenths of a second.

The Shiftter Kart is actually one of the one-make choices, so there's no need to even purchase it because it's already there. We probably spent 90-minutes racing the shifter-karts before wrapping the night up with a few races in the Red Bull Jr. Those are the only two cars we ran.

One other thing that we did which seemd to go over well was that every race began with a 5-minute practice session. It didn't really affect the flow of the night at all and it gives every one a chance to at least get a couple of laps in before the race starts.

One thing that I had in mind this week to try was the jump-the-start penalty option. If it works the way it 'should' work then it will penalize you for touching the gas pedal before the green light. I think the concept is neat if it's done right - it will definitely add something new to the race starts. I just wonder how it penalizes you - if it prevents you from accelerating for a second or two then it's okay. If it holds you in place for 5 seconds or more then it's not worth it.

Here's an idea to throw out to every one...

For an upcoming Spec Car race I'd like to take a good car and install the Nitrous kit. The car I have in mind is the Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) 08.  This was a really great car when we tested it, plus it's the one that I bought the nitrous kit for in order to try it out (those kits are $100-grand a pop, so you really cant throw them on every car you have.) I would have liked to have put a nitrous kit on the Mazda Touring Car, but it wouldn't allow me to do it. I didn't try to install it on any of the other touring cars.

Anyway... I think that having nitrous will definitely add a strategic element to our races because the supply of nitrous is finite - if you blow it all on the first three laps then you'll have none left for that last dash to the finish line. You can actually change the flowrate of the gas - the higher the flow rate, the faster the car will accelerate BUT your supply of nitrous will disappear quicker. From what I saw when I was playing around with it, in a race that's similar in length to a typical Thursday night race you will definitely have to manage the gas or you'll run out.

What to you guys think?

Dont tell me I can't throw nitrous on every car I have. Parcells nailed the original credit glitch and I most certainly can and then some :)

Generally speaking Parcells is against Nitrous (seems gay to me) but your argument for it is similar to Indy Cars so I'm game to give it a try if others are willing. Dan wont like it but too bad for him. I assume you can only install one nitrous kit at a time???...so people like me with money dont install 6 of them for additional boosts and is this one nitrous kit supposed to last the entire night or should/can we limit it it to just one race or something...if each of us decide to use our nitrous in different races I'm less for this but would still give it a try.

Parcells will go out on a short and solid limb and assume our carefree participants are on board with this suggestion so send me the details of the cars build so we can update the spreadsheet by 7 tomorrow.

We only did one Kart race last week so non-spec cars could be the shifter Kart and one other???

Alright then. We'll go the poor route this week for jimmies sake. Next week we'll do the Nissan with Nitrous so Jimmie some time between now and a week from Thursday you should max out your online login bonus and run a few special events to acquire half a mill or more for purchases. This week shouldn't put you out any more than 100 thousand if that, see below.

Spec sheet updated with this weeks spec car presented to you by Jason, its the Marcos mini Marcos GT 70 with some upgrades bringing this bad boy to a whopping 94 MPH, see spreadsheet build below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiaZK9drHM9AdDFEME1FVjExUU9...

non-spec for this weeks are...

start with the Volkswagon New beetle cup car - 00 at minimal costs and finish off with the totally free to run one-make Shifter Kart before we run the spec car.

The Mini Marcos - yay!

As far as I can tell form Nitrous it's like any other upgrade - you just buy it once per car. If anyone needs cash there's a farily easy Seasonal event right now which is worth a couple hundred G's. I think it's the very first one. I only have about $250k in the bank right now, which is why on only instaled nitrous on one car.

We dont have DRS (F1) or push-to-pass (IndyCar) so nitrous is as close as we can get to something similar to either of those. Although, we do already have something that we use from time to time when making as pass: the front bumper! cheeky

tested this car for a lap and a half at Spa and it seems rightly drivable so I'm sold on it being this weeks spec car, spreadsheet has been updated. Going to restrict it to no tuning so I dont have to practise. non-spec cars below.

@Track - I''ll give you 24 hours or so to pick the tracks else Parcell may have to pick some for you but of course they could always be changed easily enough with the no tuning and all.

non-spec cars...

Caterham

Spoon FIT race car - 03

Some more awesome racing last night. Some real close and exciting battles especially the Monaco race where I went from third to first as the leaders engaged in side by side racing only to rub the wall a bit later and give up first place...very considerate racing!!!

Every touring car we've tried (and we've run a lot of them) have been amazing so no reason to beleive the BMW is any different.

@Jimee - Can you see everybody on the track? I could see you but it sounded like a lot of people could not see you. If you start hearing ramblings about people not being able to see you, you should quit and then rejoin the room...experience has taught us that when 2 people cannot see each other often it requires both parties to leave and then rejoin the room to correct the problem and great battles with Parcells last night, tons of fun.

When that happens let me know and I will restart, No problem.

That was a hell of a great race. I was the 5th place car and I knew there wasnt going to be any room to try and squeeze through on the last corner so I tried to make a pass in the grass on the stretch leading down to the last turn. My car took a spin as soon as I touched grass - but it was worth a shot! You actually missed the two other best races of the night - we did a race at Tokyo which came down to a photo finish, and a final race at Tsukuba that was decided by .01 seconds.

I dont see why anyone would not want to race with our group because the racing we've had for the past several weeks has been nothing short of spectacular with all of these wild finishes.
