So we are gonna can our dsl internet at home and only have one internet service provider (cable) from now on. My wife's pc and all the wireless internet devices ran off the dsl and my xbox, ps3, and pc are all hardwired to cable internet. Currently I use a strictly hardwired system for cable with Linksys Router and Linksys switch from the Motorola modem, but with getting rid of the dsl and the wired and wireless gateway modem that comes with it I will have to get a new router so I can do wireless for the wifes stuff as well as wired for mine.

So what is everyone using and why? Should I stick with Linksys and just get a new router that supports wireless connections and have one wired port and just use my 10 port switch from there or go with something else?

Been using a D-Link 615 for about 9 years now because it has worked well for me. Has 4 out plugs so should be enough? My first one died after about 7 years but thats been the only issue I've ever had.

NetGear makes a good router for any speed range. What is your new internet speed?
I've used Netgear routers for many years and never had an issue. D-Link is also another good brand.

I also run a NetGear router.  4 wired ports (using all four) in the back along with it being wireless.  Works great for me

Depending upon budget, you may want to look at getting one of the new ones that supports the new Wireless AC standard - Futureshop had a package that included a USB variant of the adapter to support that new standard.  All the older WiFi stuff continues to be compatible.

Hey brnt! Long time!!!

To be honest, I would say one you have your requirements (wireless and at least one port out to re-use your switch), I would just go on Amazon and spend a few minutes and find ones with over 4 starts from any of the major manufacturers. I deal with all of them because of my job and all have pros and cons and as long as they get good reviews, you will be happy with almost any of them.

I like D-Link personally for out of the box and for the geek in me, I only use routers that can be flashed with dd-wrt open source, cool as hell, firware which replaces all the manufacturer's crap interface and adds so much more functionality. Its a great way to get an awesome router on the cheap when comparing features. Its not for the faint of heart and can brick your router, but if you get a good  supported router cheap, it is well worth the risk IMO.

Happy hunting!

:D

I have a Netgear AC router as well. Haven't had any issues with it really other then one night it just bogging down. I still blame my ISP even though on the wired side it did seem fine.

I have a Netgear an dmy boy plays League of Lagends and occasionally it simply freezes him and he has a huge lag spike. Then he's fine, no one else seems to have an issue?

Linksys is owned by Cisco, whom makes commercial equipment.  For whatever that's worth to you.
