The reviews are very consistent and generally upbeat. Nothing too worrisome in the negative contexts. A system that shows plenty of future potential.
I like that reviews are mostly saying "this feels next gen - this is the future"
It seems most reviewers are also happy with the PS4, but seem to lean more to "this is like a PS3 with better graphics" - not much about user experience at all.
As interesting as some of the word play in the reviews are, I'm most interested in the everday "Joe" that is going to be using it. My pre-order stands, but if it's nothing nore than a glorified ROKU that plays games it's getting flipped. I feel the same about the PS4 I just got last week. It's great and fun but I could've waited 6 months.
You don't buy a launch console because of what it does on Day One. You buy it for the new tech to play with, and the future. LOL at "glorified Roku" - what do you consider your 360 then? This does what the 360 does, but with better graphics and faster and better UI.

Hey Shadow eat me. I consider the 360 a glorified billboard. I'm just saying I have no use for the t.v. functionality of it. But thanks for your input...

I am betting the XBox One Live service is going to be a little on the slow end this weekend. However, as I understand it, XBox 360 Live and XBox One Live runs on different servers which means if one slows down (or worse; shuts down or crashes) the other one shouldn't be affected unless it is experiencing the same crushing volume of players (which is highly unlikely for the XBox 360).
I recommend a lot of patience in setting up your XBox One account for the first time as I imagine the first system download is going to be fairly large and in charge. Bring a book or magazine to read while you connect for the first time and download whatever you're forced to.
the update is supposedly around 1GB, close to the 900MB PS4 update. I can download 1GB in about 8 minutes...
However, if the tubes are full, then...
900mb ps4 update is the full fw, only needed if you're replacing the internal drive. A 'normal' fw update is around 340mb and dl'd automagically waiting to installed and takes under a min.
YOu can pre-download the update now and stick it on a USB stick and update our console that way. The download is 1.2gigs and there's two different versions of it so you have to download both and figure out which one goes with your console when you get it.
I don't know how you know which one is yours, but doing the first one. It's running about an average of 700K/sec, for about a 20 min download. At 220MB right now.
Dolby Digital is coming post launch. This was a SW scheduling issue pure and simple, and I know people are disappointed, but we will have it. Anyone with an HDMI receiver should be fine, as we pass the uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 through HDMI as well as DTS. Even if you have a Dolby only HDMI receiver (which I'm not sure exists), you will still get 5.1 or 7.1 sound since those receivers should accept uncompressed surround. For the Dolby only headsets, my understanding is that these will work but you will only get stereo audio since we only pass Stereo and DTS through the optical port. I have not tested this myself, but I'm told it works. Regardless, I understand this is an inconvenience, but again we're going to have Dolby coming. This is unrelated to the HDMI-IN "Surround Sound" beta. To clarify, we default HDMI-IN audio to be converted to Stereo. However, we do have a feature you can access in TV settings/Troubleshooting that enables Surround Sound in "beta" form. If you check the box, and you get Surround, you're golden. We found some inconsistencies in STB's during testing and decided to disable it by default to insure a good initial setup experience for people.
Eventful week. Was going back and forth about what I'd be doing about next-gen, decided to just hold off, got caught up in the PS4 buzz and lived through everyone's letdowns with the launch, system/PSN issues, etc. Decided I'd probably go Xbone at some point if I do dive in...
...then I got the notification that a limited number of Day One preorders would be up on Amazon yesterday AM and managed to grab one. I'm such a sucker. :)

I know what you mean. Even though my plan is to wait until March, I am thoroughly horned up to run down to the local stores at midnight tonight and grab an XB1. Each store has a limited stock that's not pre-ordered.

Best Buy's are supposed to have a couple hundred each store - they reserved their stock to bring in the midnight crowds.

That being all well in good, but ive tried downlaoding these files a couple times already and it keeps dieing at 79megs.
thanks!

downloaded fine. Jikado mentioned and I agree, that the larger number is probably the update and the other one is the original firmware.
I got the first one ending in 1800 downloaded, but i'm getting essentially file not found errors trying to download the 2nd one.
either way, 1GB isn't much
XB1 has a confirmed problem with Headset surround sound. MS's Albert Penello assures the problem is temporary.
