And you are right, Halo pretty much is all I have, but it doesn't mean I have to accept everything they push out and fall down at their feet thanking them for a job well down. It's great you have all this positivity directed their way, but I just can't gve it to them anymore.
You are definitely entitled to your opinion on the maps. But to post on a Halo board about the game you obviously enjoy and debating whether the maps should be bought is just silly. You're already all-in since you are here.

Oops, my bad. I hadn't realized this was a Brown-nose only forum.
You know that isn't true. Dixon-ites don't like my normally positive stance and say so. Others, including myself question too much negativity. Many sites do not allow meta discussions like that to take place. We are lucky to be able to get away with it as long as it doesn't all go down the crapper.

A positive stance is one thing. A positive stance, in the face of so much silliness is another. Bungie had a lot of good faith, in my estimation, until Reach, and burned up all of that. 343 had a lot of ambivalence, but they were saying a lot of the right things. As we've discussed her numerous times, what they say and what they do don't quite jive, which leads to more pessimism. After one or two bouts of "trust us-itis", I get a little wary. More than that, and it becomes habitual. This game is quickly turning into Battlefield (but isn't there yet) where, in the words of one 2o2per, isn't fixed until about 6 months after release, then it's considered "playable".

We still have 2.5 months remaining for that benchmark. ;)

I don't think anyone is saying you should kiss their feet. I'm sure the sentiment is that the map pack costs a movie ticket price which won't be missed. Do you only go to movies that you are guaranteed will be Oscar winners? No. You pay your small amount of money and hope for the best. But at least with map packs you get to play them over and over for no additional cost. It's really not enough money to be even worrying about. If you like Halo, you should just buy them so everyone you're playing with has more variety and you're not spoiling the party. If you're hard up enough that buying a pack is even a question for you financially, then maybe it's time for a new hobby.

I think I bought one map pack in Reach and didn't buy the map pack in Halo 4. I used to buy them, sight unseen, because I knew there'd be at least a couple of maps in each pack that were going to be heavily used.

this! the worst of maps can still be fun when your playing them with a whole bunch of friends talking shit about each other. even more so when your playing with a whole bunch of friends as a team against random online players. $10 would buy me a indian taco and a beer, me paying it for a map pack to play with all of you jerks is worth the price.
shut up and buy the map pack, shadow care if i add you to my friends list?
Man, you guys have been babied for way too long. I have no love for Certain Affinity and think most of their stuff is pretty bad, but determining these maps will be bad based on video of a 3 year old running around on them isn't realy fair.
Bang on.
Cynicism is easy and has no commitment. That's why so many people do it.
That being said, buying sight unseen is often not a very good life choice to make. As a fan of the series, it was a risk I was willing to take and was less expensive than the wait and see approach. I certainly would have fewer options for playtime without the maps. What else would we do? Buy Black Ops and gamble money on its maps? The answer is simple. You buy all of the maps and make the best time of it as you can or move on.
I am guessing two of Majestic will go down as being amongst the best competitive Halo maps ever with the third being a wild card. None of this group of three will likely be of much use to the Over 50 group since we often play with 16 players. I still like what I see in these maps but they will be mostly what I call gathering/warmup maps.
I'll probably get around to making variants of the the existing BTB maps. Nothing like Hog Wars on a map like Wreckage. We just haven't had the need for it yet.
Does anybody happen to know of another company making the next Halo-like game? Is there anything quite like it right now? Nope. So we work with what we have. Simple.
Bolding mine.
Deep, I know you barely play multiplayer, but I'd like to collect. Are two of the Majestic maps the best ever for competitive Halo?

I sort of doubt it now. Maybe one. It's a disservice to the maps to expect such lofty goals to be met in such a short time. Also remember, in 8-10 years it will be a different generation of players reminicing on the older maps. We'll be such a minority by then our opinions won't carry much weight.

Don't even have to wait that long. Some poor people started their Halo experience with Reach and think that's good Halo. Their viewpoint of the series is all sorts of fucked up.
Also, you don't have to doubt it. You can know. Those maps, although useful in the rotation, aren't amazing, classic maps, to be lauded through FPS history.
everyone hated the first maps, i liked 'em cause i enjoy using the vehicles. everyone seems to hate all of the majestic maps except one or two, i like all of 'em cause their small and will play differently from the first map pack. im going to buy and enjoy playing all of them. my only bitch is that enough ppl dont seem to buy the maps in the game, i grow very bored of playing the same 2maps almost every game.
Never mind. Seems they caught it. I got up to 97% and then it just started cycling between 0% and 99%. My son got to 50% before getting an error message.

I think they got it half right. They did in fact make smaller maps they just totally screwed up on the whole map layout thingy . I am sure everyone will be pleased with an engagement range of less than 5 feet.
My point being, you (Dixon) pay to go to LANs for the game, but you hesitate at $10 for a map pack for that series? Just seems silly. Whether you love them or not, at least the game would be complete and you won't notice the money.

I don't care about "complete". And yes, I hesitate at $10 for a map pack of maps that I'm not going to play/don't like. That's just throwing money down the toilet, even if it is just $10 bucks and it's rewarding the developer for making maps that are terrible.
Yea, but my point is you think they are terrible based on gameplay from someone who is obviously terrible or has never played halo before. I'm not going to condone that this is the right tactic to release a promo video, but I can guarantee that if you had to watch the same person playing the Pit, you'd think that was a terrible map as well.

Nah, one map looks good from the videos shown. The other two don't really show any promise from the videos shown. Like I've said before, I'd like to be pelasantly surprised and have all three in heavy rotation because it's really needed. We've always needed more good maps, though.

I only watched part of one of those vids. The dude was terrible and that shouldn't reflect on the maps, period. COD fanboys would say "COD is now crap 'cause that kid sucks" if I was the one playing. Ghost, you have a point, my friend.

I never try to speak on Dixon's behalf, but I respect his reason for not buying the map packs. The money impact issue varies from person to person, $10 does not go far today. However, taking a stand to not reward a developer for a product you do not like.....that is principaled and not unreasonable in the least. To me it shows his passion for Halo and should not be taken as "not being all in".

There is no way to give your informed opinion on the play of a map without playing it. There is no way to play it without buying it. So, bitching about maps from afar really does nothing.
I read good comments on NeoGAF and THC twitter users for these maps. Someone said two of them were in the top five Halo maps ever. Someone was giving out early codes for the maps.

Just re-read the tweets. These people are saying Majestic is a must buy.
Ahh, a return to the glory days of the Halo forum. Bickering and negativity were a constant. The forum was a live with activity though, like it is now.
Yeah, the guys that made the map never played The Pit. It kind of looks like the lovechild of Complex and Solace, with it having buildings dominated by close quarters stuff and cluttered geometry all over the place.

Broken promises, not living up to the hype, previous maps, unbalanced gameplay, etc have led to the pessimistic outlook of many here regarding 343 and CI. If you went to a restaurant and it only tastes good 1 out of 10 times, I don't think you would be optimistic that the food would be wonderful every time you went. If you feel these posts are made by crybabies, then so be it. You don't have to read them. You have the freedom to skip them over. However, as this is a forum and none of them are breaking the rules, they are within their rights to express their opinions, positive or negative.

If the food sucks 9 out of 10 times I'D STOP GOING TO THAT RESTAURANT! Probably way before I got to the 10th time.
You are correct, the crybabies can be crybabies in this forum. Just as people can call people out on their crybabyness too.

with the right loadouts (meaning limited) they could play ok. Will have to see. I get them as is, so only time will tell.

Map pack is available right now. Downloading as we speak. Seems someone at MS messed up. Not sure how long before they 'fix' it.
