This.

On BF3 we pay for servers already, so why the hell do I have to pay $60 extra per year? For what?

word.  I don't know how they figure they can make it 90% ads on a paid service.  It's one or the other, M$

Are you old enough to remember when they said "cable" was commercial free?

Yeah I had had to live with for a while as I beta tested it...just a lot of wasted screen real estate.127

They sure as fuck didn't make it any faster either.  The dashboard takes way to long to do tasks, it was alreadybad and this update didn't make it any better.

I do like the new 'pin' feature though, probably the most useful thing in the update.  But even that takes like 15-20 seconds to open even if there's nothing pinned O_o

Agreed. They shrunk teh shit I actually look for to add crap I couldn't care less about. They upped the price of XBL and now get to add advert revenue. Fuckers.

I dunno. It's not like you have to click the ads or they're eating up important real eastate on the screen or anything. Usually if I'm on the dashboard I'm just looking on the social tab to see who's online or starting up a game. Is a little stupid I'm paying to see ads, but it's not really that surprising considering it's Microsoft.

I can not disagree with the ad placement while I'm paying for the service.  I'm liking the dashboard less and less each day.  The last two major updates changed things that I really liked and is now less user friendly for me.

I don't usually click on or pay much attention to the ads, so M$ can suck it.

This is getting out of control. I really enjoy the plug and play feature of a console but XBL has really slowed down. It just isn't as fun anymore. The lag last night was terrible. It has been slowing down for quite awhile now.

No, it just doesn't have the memory needed anymore, they're overloading it, and you can't open it up and pop in more ram...defining limitation of a "console" system...

However, the next box I'm betting will handle it just fine, for a bit...

I really don't care, epecially the stuff on the games and tv/movie pages. I mean, what's so bad about seeing things like trailers, Halloween themed games, recomandations, and your collection?

Do you really want the service to be free? Was the free PS3 service ever on par with Live?  And it's not like we pay a fortune as it is. The $60 a year (and really, who pays full price?) breaks down to $5 a month.... or $1.25 a week.

Now I'm not saying the update is good (it really isn't) and I wish they included more useful things, but it's not as bad as some of you make it sound. You also have to remember, M$ is trying to make the Xbox the all-in-one media/entertainment destination, not just a gamebox

the xbox UI is the interface I like the least of the 3 consoles.  Everyone should just copy the Steam PC client / web access- that thing is money.

just playing devils advocate here...

But does anyone here complain to their Satellite/Cable provider that they allow commercials in between shows?

I mean yeah MS is double dipping for revenue, but on average I bet we are paying 4 dollars a month for the service (asusming people do not pay full price for the yearly xbl service) not to mentions you get some of that back if you do the Free rewards program.

Yeah it's a litttle clunky. But it is nothing that is driving me to leave xbl for.

To be honest I like the Playstation Dashboard a little bit better now, even though that is free I still do not want to trade in my xbl subscription.

I bought a games console to play games, I have a TV and digital boxes for TV, computers for the interwbs and a kick ass stereo for my music...Now my games console has turned into Walmart...and in the process has slowed down, and MS live is groaning under the pressure. I have nothing but problems online gaming now with Xbox...coincidence? I don't think so.

Have to agree with Knight (damnit) ...but I think people with a limited bandwidth are going to suffer the most.

I truly think consoles are fucking it up right now. With tablets like surface and ipad, gaming could easily switch to the side of PC gaming in the coming years.

I have already more or less made the switch, with game stores closing down and online being the way things are going, well I may as well download the PC version of any game worth having and make the most of the better hardware, triple screens and way cheaper prices, I can pick up year old games for a tenner, and even the latest are often up for weekend discounts of sometimes 50 or 75% Console games are getting more and more expensive and with DLC's you can spend more than the price of your console just keeping the content up to date. PC is actually better value for money these days even given the higher cost of set up. The next gen consoles are reputed to have upgradable hardware, and you can bet you won't be able to use standard PC cards, oh no these will be Xbox only and you'll pay through the nose...I think the Golden goose is coughing up blood and Microsoft are the virus it's caught. I have been a long time defender of consoles Xbox in particular, but, it's getting harder to do.
