I decided to not play this tech support phone tag with Asus.  I will be getting an MSI motherboard with the P35 chipset.  Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, it only supports DDR2 1066.  So I will be selling my DDR 800 sticks.  If anyone is interested PM me.  I will also sell my Asus P5K motherboard for dirt cheap.  I believe it all works except the network port.  If you are going to go wireless then that shouldn't bother you.  I would be willing to sell it all as a cheap package also.

Uhg, I am through dealing with Asus.  I talked on the phone to a 2nd level tech.  I told him what I went through, what I did, what is happening, what isn't happening.  He came up with the conclusion that the motherboard is fine so it's the setup.
Ok, the only thing that changed in this scenario is the motherboard.  And I am using dhcp so there isn't anything to setup.  I tried XP and Vista.  I made sure the latest drivers were installed.  Tried three different network cables that do work on my laptop.

Do I get this one replaced or say screw it and get a USB wireless card for it. It's only the network port that is not working. While hardwired I do get the full 7meg down from my isp on wireless I get 4.5meg. Upload doesn't change. So that still decent enough for gaming. I don't know why .11g can't keep up with that though.


I have a 108g router but a 54g wireless built into my laptop.  I wonder if a 108g adaptor would get me full bandwidth.

It's a new motherboard. We'll see if Vista likes it. I have a feeling I will have to call Microsoft to explain it isn't a new computer. I will reply to blog about the outcome and if Microsoft support has improved.
