How to get your gf or wife to play video games

How many adult male gamers have lamented about their wives/girlfriends disowing them from the amount of time they put into gaming?  While a discussion on how to spend more effective time together would be the first solution, I hear many wishing that their "sig o" would play games as well.  My lovely ladies of 2old2play know how rewarding it can be to sit alongside (or in another lan room) Halo hopping alongside their man, I truly don't believe the majority of men understand.

First off fem gamers, we are not alone.  www.gamepro.com/article/news/111888/npd-reveals-online-gaming-statistics/

42% of online gamers are female.

I won't spur off on my typical tangent of how sexist and derrogatory remarks that WILL, that's right, WILL be heard by the female gamers, that's another story, but it happens. Guarantee happen.  Put that down as reason #1 that the majority of women won't play.  Why jump on when you're immediately attacked by being called a fat bitch just because you have the XX chromosome?  Lesson here, support your females.  Chivalry is not dead, it's in a recession and we ladies pray it will make a comeback. Until then, less gamers, more muted girls.

Next item at the helm, is gametype.  A gal that played Atari, Duck Hunt, even Sonic, will more likely jump into the gaming scene with you.  It brings back fond memories before the dreaded teenagedom of makeup, big hair, and liking boys (or dealing with boys issues? Ha? Right ladies?).  This is how I got back into gaming.  I was an avid SuperMario Bros fan.  1st gen Nintendo.  According to my parents, it was "time to grow up" and it fell by the wayside.  I would sneak hours of Virtua Fighter in Las Vegas arcades, standing besides teenages boys pwning, and eventually reaching my early 20's to buy a PS 1.

Unfortunately, I doubt the men of 2old2play realize that there are men that don't play games as well.  For I spent many times with past exes over the debate "You've been on that thing ALL DAY. What about ME?"  Yah, but I'm at the end of GTA Vice City, and I GOTTA FINISH THE HELICOPTER LEVEL.  Anyway, I was blessed to meet duchee, who was a Halo fanatic, and didn't devulge so until several dates in.  He had the predictament of non gaming girlfriends.  I picked up a controller and....two Xbox 360s, PS3, two PSPs, gaming room with individual stations, surround sound headsets, and a wedded bliss.  Aw.

If your lovely lady friend has never touched a controller in her life, maybe some "soft core" gaming will break the ice.  Wii.  It practically SCREAMS to women BUY ME.  The Jenny McCarthy workout.  C'mon. Target women much?  The musical genres will suck in any drunken Karaoke gal.

All else fails, I love using this:  Successful relationships require partners to do things together.  Let's play a Co-op video game. I'll even let you drive the mongoose/take lead guitar/ have the sniper rifle/ use my custom forza car...whatever works.  Just scream "THERE IS NO i IN TEAM BABY!!!"

I will now resort back to my sidejob of being the token female that has mothers and casual gaming friends asking advice on what system/game to buy.  All in days work.

Try to involve your women.  Honestly, I love playing video games with my husband.  It's my favorite thing to do.

My wife plays video games a little. She will play Mario Bros (she loves the New Super Mario Bros Wii) and Sims 3, but she draws the line at games where you need to use both analog sticks. She says it gets to complicated, but i just think she likes the casual games. The only game she will play on the 360 is hexic and viva pinata.

I had a blast with Momma Neck back when Fight Night Round 3 dropped. She and I used to spend hours in the ring beating each other silly. Somewhere along the way she lost interest but I need to be more proactive because I am sure it wouldn't take much to get her in front of a TV and behind a controller again.

When we got our first PS3, for Christmas 2007 it was really my Wife's first experience with videogames since Frogger. We got Ratchet and Clank Future: TOD, and she loved it. By the summer of 2008, she got her own PS2 to play Ratchet, and fell in love with the Jak series (Precursor Legacy is her favorite). Though she's not a big online gamer, playing Little Big Planet with Char warmed her up to online gaming. This fall, I knew the one Christmas present I could get her that she'd get the good out of was a PS3 Slim, LBP GOTY, her own headset, and Ratchet: ACIT. She loves it.

I really want to get my wife into gaming. Like Cerb was saying, it is having to use the 2 analog sticks at once that fucks her up. I have seriously been contemplating getting her a wii in hopes that she will get more into gaming. Right now the only games she has played with me are the Lego games and Rock Band. I figure the wii should be pretty damn easy for her to figure out.

I say if you love gaming that much perhaps you should try dating people who also love it. Then there is no arguing about it.
