Heroes

Who did you look up to when you were a kid, or even now? Some of might
say a family member or close friend in the military, for protecting
our country. Or, some of us might say a teacher or professor, for
their quality in teaching you in school. A few might say a friend or
co-worker, for being there when you needed them. Even some may say
their kids, who have weathered storms we would never have dreamed of
going through. I have many heroes. My parents for raising me the way
they did. My Grandpa, for putting his life on the line every day
during WWII serving as a nose gunner on a B-24. My wife for putting up
with me for over 13 years and still loving me. Both my boys, for being
brave at such young ages. Megan, for being a complete trooper through
her struggles. Most important, my God and my Savior, for being there
when it seemed no one else was. For loving me when it seemed like no
one else did. For standing next to me in times of harsh trials. For
thinking of me when He spread His arms out on the cross and died, so
that I may live forever in paradise. I know that this may seem like
the typical Sunday School answer. But it is so true. And what made me
think about it was a quote I read not too long ago, that God quizzed
me on and asked me who my hero really is. The quote is from a great
man, orator and President:

"Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they
just don't know where to look."
-Ronald Reagan

1981 Inaugural Address

I was quite taken back by the quote, and even more taken back by my
immediate answer to His question. My first thought was that it wasn't
Jesus. Although it should have been. I have been wrapped up looking up
to earthly heroes all my life. Some good, some bad. Don't get me
wrong, it's OK to look up to others. Just make sure he or she is the
right person and doesn't take the place of God. Most of this world
looks up to the wrong people. Cheating athletes, singers who set
horrible examples, and selfish movie stars. What's even worse is that
some of our children adore these people. Without thinking about it for
a second, my mind was changed. So, I ask you all, who is your hero?

Take care and God bless.
